  4. I personally think the events section on here is vital and has probably over taken the need for flyers to a certain extent, certainly gets the word out to a larger audience on here than flyers could. Many local venues that are established maybe don't need to do as much leg work as they probably have an established set of attendees who maybe don't stray too far from home turf anyway. Usually find those that are struggling make the most "noise". Don't think the nighter side of it is too bad on here with pre event hype, usually the soul nights and that hopefully will change when the soul nights section goes the same way as the nighter section.
  5. I've often read a lookback post by someone and wondered if they were at the same venue as me.
  6. if they sold it for a fiver/tenner less than the list price that's fine but why not leave the price that it was listed at. Like Dave says this is purely a research tool. So many posts asking for a value when it could be under their nose all the time.
  7. it's already in refosoul.. passions - if you see my baby -
  8. nice one H, plenty of other good informative ones down the side too, one here featuring Ron Murphy and further footage of Archer and how they actually make the stampers etc.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDmBx4R-Gas&feature=related
  9. does that matter, most on here seen to think popsike and ebay is a true reflection of the price of a record Like John says I can never understand those who post..."pm'ed ya" on a sales topic, especially if they don't want anyone to know their business? The forum should be able to detect pm'ed ya, pm'ed ya back posts and auto delete them!
  10. give Andy Dyson a shout, he did have one.... Dysonsoul@aol.com
  11. sorry to hijack the topic but when did this get first played and by whom? I remember Gary Spencer giving it plenty of turntable action.
  12. I think the term is often used out of ignorance. Often used for something that doesn't appeal to someone or to someone who considers some elitist cause they listen to something that hasn't been hammered to death for 35 years. At the end of the day, oldies or newies, Northern or rarities, underplayed & forgotten, crossover, whatever tag you want to give it, its all the same, Rare Soul Music!
  13. I've got to agree with you Dave that it would be a lot better to leave the price, something to refer back to.
  14. I can think of plenty of films set in a certain era that uses music not released at the time, even Paul Sadot if I remember rightly used music not discovered at the time his play was set?
  15. yeah I agree, I was thinking more of the quality rather than the value, p*sses over many of the so called big money records.
  16. absolute bargain for one of the best double siders ever recorded!!! If I didn't already have it I'd buy the bugger
  17. Lifeline has 5 per year, 6 if we could ever sort the christmas/new year date out. Just how many would you like us to cut down to? New Century runs the month we don't promoting a three room venue, more oldies orientated in the large room with two side rooms catering for upcoming, modern, R&B and Steve Cato's session. We work together along with Mace and believe it or not at times other promoters including Kev Roberts to try and avoid clashes. Along with Chris at New Century, we are always the last Saturday in the month and our dates are up over a year in advance in the all-nighter planner, these dates have been used since our beginnings. I'm not sure we can really do any more to help than we already do? If there are any suggestions, we will gladly listen.
  18. I was thinking the same, that it is legit. Must have been thinking of something else when though there was a boot years ago.
  19. there's three isn't there, wee 714 red label bunky's pick, 106 with address and 106 bunky's pick.
  20. I don't know what you want, one minute you wanted a night on the lines of Stafford then it's oldies. Regardless most peoples taste are already catered for. There is room for other promoters but these new promoters should at least show a little decency and respect what is already happening. Bob/Phil has clearly shown he has little regard for what is going on less than an hour away by booking another all-nighter...the reasons why are what I am curious to find out and to see if this sort of thing can't be avoided for the greater good of the scene. He has shown the dsame lack of decency/respect on pther dates too b y the looks of it. BUT like I saod he isn't alone, "promoter" are still booking dates when they know full well they will have an effect not just on their own night but on another established venue. Why ffs? Do they have deep pockets and don't mind throwing money away? Do the DJ's do it for nothing, is the venue free? Do they mind Djing to 50 or 60 punters?
  21. It was re-issued on Horace's and I thought it was booted back in late 80's early 90's? Or am I thinking of something else?
  22. one of the best records ever recorded
  23. a lot of vinyl was often recycled hence the sometimes poor quality recordings and the vinyl stampers deteriorate more quickly. Mint (or near as) styrene is always a better quality sound.
  24. This topic isn't here to slate promoters, it is here to try and make sense of what is happening on today's all-nighter scene, to try and get promoters to work with each other or at least show some respect for what others are doing. I was curious what your reasons were for promoting Derby Assembly Rooms on the same night as another long established all-nighter less than an hours drive away? Sorry but I don't think you have done all you could to avoid the clash. It isn't rocket science. Rugby been running years, it's dates are in the calendar and nighter planner months in advance yet you still feel it warrant another all-nighter less than an hours drive away??? To say the crowd will vote with their feet is an insult to your fellow promoters, they shouldn't be put in that position. Did you know Rugby was on the same night befoer you booked the venue in Derby? It would appear you didn't or if you did you didn't care? Also to say you are after a different or catering for a different crowd is absolute rubbish. We are all after the same punters irrespective how you label the music on offer, it's stiil rare/northern soul however you wish to tag it. Oldies as you put them are well catered for at the majority of all-nighters including Rugby. This is everything that is wrong with the scene today and the reason why this topic was brought about. This simply highlights the fact that some will do as they please with little regard to what is on the same night, and in this case in the same sort of area. Don't worry you are not alone as this last week alone another promoter has done exactly the same and I can think of at least two others who are doing the same later in the year. As I said earlier with a little thought there is room for everyone but too many still plough ahead with little regard for the consequences their actions impact on fellow promoters.
  25. then why promote an all-nighter on a given date when another established venue already booked? not having a go btw just curious as to the reasons you feel that another all-nighter is warranted/needed?Both venues will no doubt suffer because of this.
