  1. There are too many who are at the so called top cause they spend a lot of money and not for the thought or imagination that they put into their sets. Not many will stick their necks out over a tune and play it cause they believe in it and it could be or will be a top record on the scene. Many play ready made biggies playing records each other already have and play. I find many of the smaller DJ's play better sets but because they cost a fraction of the price of a well known established DJ then folk don't want to know. I find it is those that who will take a chance and stick their neck out over a record are the ones who get accused of playing to themselves. Many of these little people have paid their dues in some respects, some have better collections and have been collecting longer than established names. I agree a DJ's job is to inspire and entertain but it is also the job of a Dj and the promoter to keep this scene alive and moving forward, attracting younger blood who probably aren't interested in listening to the same records for 30 years.
  2. There is the Enchanters on Tee Pee, Atco etc??
  3. I love snippets of useless information. I've been meaning to start a topic just for snippets like this, stuff too small for a topic of its own.
  4. here's one of my shots of Darrow at Cleethorpes... you can see more at my flickr page, link in my signature.
  5. Derek Pearson with special guest Chalky - Shades Of Soul 14 August 2010 -
  6. I've been away all week, not been home long, will have a go a bit later.
  7. Hi Nev I've read all you have said and agree with it all Anyone who books Butch and expects anything less that what you describe is either a fool or is new to the scene. Maybe the smaller DJ is an easier target?
  8. There's no need to spell it out, I fully understood what you were saying. I was simply saying I thought it was a bit cheeky to say you couldn't be bothered to post on all the sites you use yet use one of those site to plug what you are doing elsewhere. I wish you would bother cause I rarely use Youtube, as said a lot of the stuff on there simply gets lost. As Martin said, most of those you are aiming your music at are on here. As Martin said please do bother I'll go and have a listen to your video page as well!
  9. I don't know many Dj's who play to themselves. often the wrong DJ is booked for the crowd in attendance by the promoter and if a DJ takes a certain type of record, records he or she has been asked to play then the fault does not lie at the door of the DJ. And Butch does play requests if it fits within his sets and plans. he's played many at Lifeline.
  10. I'd be surprised if stuff like Chaumonts and LJ.Reynolds isn't already in refosoul. Why would you have to upload a track 4 times? Once on here and once on YouTube is twice is it not. I would prefer refosoul as I find watching a video of a label for two and a half minutes boring. At least with refosoul I can carry on reading. Like Mossy said it takes just a few minutes to put a track in refosoul. you can't be bothered to post in refosoul yet use the site to advertise you tube???
  11. this one was 64mb when first recorded, had to reduce to less than 30 for podbean site, think it was 26/28mb. You get a fixed allowance per month storage and bandwidth, bandwidth gone in 3 days looking to upgrade to a paid for account or set up my own site, whichever is the cheapest

sound-files are in post number 39, think it was Derek Pearson who originally put them in refosoul.
  13. Have definitely used up my bandwidth allowance and for what it cost to pay for podcast site (still with certain restrictions to bandwidth etc) I can pay for web space and set up my own site, complete with blogs etc. So gonna get busy with iweb, get it designed and stuff added then upload the lot. Will attempt to put the first podcast in refosoul as I think size wise it is ok.
  14. I think, with it being a free account, I've used my bandwidth quota for the month. Will have a look at either paying or another way of doing this, via another site if possible. All I would imagine will have quotas.
  15. didn't think I'd heard him play it for a while! I had another photo but can't find it.
  16. one of life's mysteries mate
  17. Mick H spins this or used to.
  18. The first picture is the photo on the picture sleeve of Hey Its Love/No Time For You.
  19. obviously dodgy bidding Greg. Since ebay hid everything there is little you can do to point this out, t*ssers!!
  20. think there will be copies tucked away in collections Gilly, was about back in the day as they say Probably demand and that it is good that pushed the price right up.
  21. Thank Pete Matt, think he put me onto it. It is free but you have a monthly limit...not that it will bother me, takes me a month to sort one out
  22. Cheers Pete, hope you enjoy it
  23. >>>>A LIFELINE OF SOUL PODCAST<<<< Well here's my first effort at a podcast! Almost one hour of sounds from the playbox of Andy Dyson, most have been featured at Lifeline at some time or other. Some will be known, some will be considered oldies but others have never featured on either cd or any other internet sites. Obviously approximately two thirds of each record has been used (some longer) to deter the bootleggers etc. Many will know what Lifeline is all about but hopefully it will give those who haven't been to Lifeline a flavour of what can be heard and hopefully it might entice you along. Anyway sit back, listen and enjoy. 24. After our recent foray into Mace Land, Bidds and Stoke that is, we are pleased to be getting back to the Stables. Many thanks to Mace and Chris for the help last time out. Anyway we have a fantastic all-nighter planned (well I think so). Along side the resident rascals of Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H, Soul Sam, Cliff Steele and myself (Chalky for those who need reminding ) we have Karl Heard, one of the Countries most popular DJ's right now. If thats not enough we have Kev Murphy spinning his wares to kick off proceedings, probably playoing stuff he rarely gets the chance to play....it will all be good stuff And as usual to send you home hopefully wanting more is Nottingham's Legendary Rob Smith. So hopefully we will see you all there on a balmy (or should that be barmy?) hot summer night to hear some of the finest in Rare Soul Music. If you can't wait that long I've started a podcast to highlight the DJ's and the records you are likely to have heard or hear at Lifeline. The first one is courtesy of Lifeline main man Andy Dyson (hopefully his co promoter Mick H next). The Podcast can be found >>>>HERE<<<< THE LIFELINE SOUL CLUB presents The Real Deal Rare Soul All-Nighter At The Brookfields Club (The Stables), Cannock Road, Shareshill, Wolverhampton, WV10 7LZ.
