  1. The Phyliss Hyman biography is a good read. When I get on the PC I'll throw a couple of links up for some others.
  2. doesn't do a lot for me this record. The intro is especially off putting.
  3. Some more tapes converted this weekend. These are 3 of 5 tapes from the Chapel All-nighter in Rotherham. 6th June 1992 at the Chapel in Masborough. Ray Hudson and Snowy the promoters. The Travellers rest would be the warm up soul night, I was a resident there. From what I remember it was a pretty decent venue although it had seen better days. Can remember the plod coming in for a walk round. I have lost the first two tapes so if anyone has copies can I have a copy please Probably one of those with me on I've 6 sound-files altogether about 45 minutes a piece except the last which is about 30 minutes.
  4. carl carlton - nothin no sweater - golden world carl carlton - i can feel it - backbeat carl carlton - so what - lando
  5. It made me smile and though it some of you might appreciate a listen. Music wasn't great was it. Does anyone know the date for this?
  6. Converting some tapes to the PC and came across this one. It is John Green according to the jingle talking to Richard Searling. Sounds like it is in the midst of the Wigan vs. Mecca argument......
  7. Try searching the forum Richard, pretty sure we have discussed it before.
  8. There's others including at least one DJ that I know of with a copy. There's a copy in Germany, got his for a dollar I think? Jorg Brenner I think who has it or had it, Marc Forrest will confirm who.
  9. Here you go Mick, should be the right way round....open the scan in a photo editing program and there should be in image or tools an option to rotate the image. If not just post them up or e-mail me and I'll sort for you.
  10. Cheers Simon, wish I'd seen the auction. Bargain price
  11. appreciated Paul
  12. There's countless bits of info out there, info that doesn't necessarily warrant a topic of its own but simply takes up a sentence. Bits like this one from Arkwright... c'mon let's see what other amazing mind-boggling snippets of info there is
  13. the credit card style membership card....
  14. thanks for that, what is the address (sorry to be a pain ). Shame about the skip, that's the side that's played. Know of a couple of copies over here, one in Germany. Probably others we don't know about.
  15. Larry Bright the other artist on Tide found a scan on popsike of another Larry Bright release...
  16. Thought it was same artist but under different name? anyone got soundfile (& scan)?
  17. Nice find. Do you have a scan of the other side? Isn't it on Tide as well under different name? Just the few (3 or4?) as far as I know? So will cost a decent wedge of cash I would imagine.
  18. Cheers Dante. Anyone not yet listened can do so >>>>HERE<<<<
  19. Flyer for the third of Rob Marriott's all-nighters. I also remember an all-dayer somewhere but can't remember the venue.
  20. Why the surprise for Gene Toones? It appears somewhere for sale on a regular basis.
  21. Think it was about the time he stopped travelling, think he was in the states though for the 1st one. If I could find my '87 echoes I could scan more ads and especially the first one.
  22. That was the Swan in Mansfield. Will post some flyers later. Pretty sure the first Winding Wheel was April? As i said modern room was downstairs, pretty sure Richard Searling didn't make it.
  23. Looking at the flyer you posted Mick, I don't think that one happened, think that was the 1988 one and the squad had put a stop to the nighters? The management weren't a problem but the squad began to block extensions at the Winding Wheel for every gig they did, even the Ireland Colliery Brass Band had an extension refused. Out of all the nighters they busted one person, dunno if this the right place to say who The squad would have had more success if they had gone down the town to the Adam and Eve. I did have some press cuttings about it all but lost them. They are in the Top 500 book I think.
  24. Hi Mick, the venue was the Winding Wheel, the best venue I have ever been in for a Rare Soul all-nighter. Danny Everard and Dave Thorley the promoters. Ran from April 1987 and every month up to Boxing Night when the authorities put a stop to it It could have become a legendary name of the scene if it weren't for the squad. First one the Northern was upstairs, 400 capacity. Modern down stairs which was about 700 capacity. Was a smaller 150 capacity room and a smaller one still on the same floor as the Northern Room. Northern Room later moved downstairs with Steve Smith's oldies room upstairs. The Boxing night one was Keb's last ever set outside London before retiring. He got a standing ovation for about 10 minutes with Guy itching to start his set, think he just though f*ck it and dropped needle on record Rob Marriott to the squad, "don't give a f*ck who you are you are paying to get in" Steve Smith should have a few more stories.
