  1. can't remember, sold mine in mid 90's. The sound file above is I think taken from my old copy.
  2. Lucy actually gave a good talk IMO. Her paper was based on research and what you see is the research, actual comments from soulies etc.
  3. It would have been Pat Brady that played it back then btw.
  4. The last one I actually saw sell in the flesh was I think £2k.
  5. The first record I paid a 3 figure sum for, '87 at Blackburn I think, Butch had just got 5 copies. sir caesar - show me the time - ride
  6. great stuff Eddie, will help any way I can Memory not what it used to be though
  7. I've an old list of Andy Dyson's from 1993 with Billy Hambric on at £15. Eddie Whitehead for a fraction of what it is now worth late 80's at 100 Club. Didn't have enough on me and seller wouldn't take deposit etc etc. Can't remember who was selling it.
  8. thanks Gary Mate, and Dave Abbott, al sorted now
  9. Bub was one of the greatest characters, always had a smile on his face regardless how he felt inside. Always had a joke and a funny story. He was funnier than most comedians, certainly today's lot. Tuesday nights at tracky were great nights with Bub holding court having us all in stitches for the whole night. R.I.P.
  10. Yep deffo add Ozzie to the list, was just a quick reply from me earlier in the day in-between work things. Nighters don't seem the same without any of those I mentioned
  11. What you say about Stan is how I would describe a "character" naughty but often in a funny/good sort of way. I haven't seen Craig since Tracky Club days I don't think. As you say Neil is still out and about, was at Lifeline t'other week.
  12. I'd agree with Joan and say it was quite good and pretty interesting. It was by no means an attempt for an outsider so to speak to rewrite the history books as far as Northern Soul is concerned. It was simply to get something academic onto the books as there is virtually nothing academic as far as NS is concerned, plenty about other dance/music scenes. The first professor is actuall into NS, been going since the 70's and still goes occasionally, dj'ed in the past too. The second her parents are/were into it, from the North East, and knows Col Denham, Gas Simon etc. Attended many venues during her research including Piercebridge where both Joan and myself went and Dj'ed at. Lucy has been on SS for some years and gave in my and others opinion a very good talk. The US professor is a R&B fan, his father a close friend of I think Jerry Wexler, grew up with the music and has worked in the biz. They valued the feedback and Q&A extremely and were very happy with it all. Think more are planned. Someone video'ed it, I am waiting for the URL to the video so all can see for themselves. Lucy said she would share her paper and asked one of the others but she needs to get permission as it is being published. I did record it on my iphone, quality not too bad, if all say ok I can share if the video doesn't appear.
  13. Get your facts right Ian and stop the shit stirring. I don't recall saying anywhere I didn't know who was selling. But as it happens I did not know who Randy was and the topic was signed simply Paul, now how many Paul's are there on the scene? It wasn't until Paul PM'ed me that I knew who it was. I only asked to see the scan as I'd never seen an issue, I don't recall seeing one in Dave Moore's mag either. It wasn't just me many other people have never seen one either. I why the soul police crap? And I also remember you in the past questioning a seller on ebay cause of the lack of feedback...pot kettle and black spring to mind. Are you Paul's spokesman? If not sod off and stop stirring things, sure Paul will speak for himself when he gets home from work.
  14. I would have sent it to JM.
  15. Ian you are contributing more of the crap waffle with your stirring. All that was asked was to see a scan, I for one haven't seen an issue before and was interested in seeing it. I had no intention of buying the record, simply wanted to see the scan. Like Pete says when something so elusive is offered cheap, which it is IMO, with no scan from someone using a pseudonym what do you expect from people, you've done exactly the same in the past with ebay. Glad it is sold but hopefully Paul (who is straight up and honest btw) will post a scan for the benefit of those who have never seen an issue.
  16. Think it was Greg Tormo who was telling how he or someone he knew went round picking these up off the floor at the convention or whatever it was where they were given out free, no one seemed to want them and simply threw them away.
  17. Not really mate, you win some you lose some. It wasn't that well known then and as most on the label were pretty commonish I assumed (wrongly) plenty more would come along as it got better known
  18. Pete Lawson once offered me Tina Roberts One Way for £60...declined as I'd just bought Billy Webster which had long long since been uncovered Also declined a Forston and Scott Sweet Lover for around about the same price and a Jimmy Bo Horne for a ton thinking plenty would come along....d'oh
  19. I reckon I define the word "character"differently to most Some of these posts seem like a list of mates and not the "characters" who I thought you were referring to. Plenty had an influence on me but not all what I would describe as a character. Characters to me are people like Pete Lawson, Gaz Kellett, Phil Worrell, Tommo, Woody etc etc.
  20. Photo here
  21. I could have but I can't remember
  22. was what the Dave Moore one? JD Martin, don't think I've ever seen an issue?
  23. any chance of some scans of these rarities? Until I saw a scan of JD Martin it is still only rumoured to exists
  24. have a read about them at https://doo-wop.blogg.org/themes-_salutations__vito___the_-163282.html
  25. also came out on Sandbag. Different takes if I remember rightly.
