Quite a bit of what Soussan sent over were emidiscs, Frank Wilson for one. Others at Stafford and in the 80s were played from cuts with the only known (at the time) copy in a collectors hands, they needed playing. Now there is no need for any of that and hasn't been for years, enough originals rare and not so rare, expensive and not so out there to satisfy everyone.

The US label is one of the most complicated to collect if you are bothered about what is in the runout groove, different matrix etc.

Just by typing "Tamla Motown" into 45 Cat it gives you 714 entries. Then you have Fontana, Stateside, London & Oriole. Discogs gives you 8,672 entries, that's Lps, 45s, Eps, demos, issues, variants etc and probably a lot of duplication?

It's what's in the groove that counts...or is it?
Chalky replied to Chalky's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Dean The price I took from GZ website, didn't look in to it in detail. I realise there are mechanical royalties on top but 500 seems a compromise rather than 300 many are doing as they seem to sell pretty quickly if the quality is there. -

Hi. I get you have to pay x amount up front but the cost between 500 units and 1000 units is 500 euro, 1 euro per disc. Now you only have to sell 50 extra to make the money back. In most cases the quality releases are selling out pretty fast and stoking the exploitation of collectors as people who have no interest in the 45s are buying them to sell on as soon as the prices start to rise, bigger pressing runs are obviously needed as the market is there. Now I know quite a few who have stopped buying limited quantity releases, I have cut back a lot, especially the releases of previously released (on CD) material, I simply cannot afford the amount being released and it was having an impact on my main collecting. Best of luck with the releases, one I heard the other day is very good and I will check the others out. -

Yep, think they are upfront Djs when in reality they are catching up. The reissue Cds and download were far better value as well. -

That maybe true but the remix has been out there for some time along with others but it takes a vinyl release to get many interested. The original take is a good record in its own right.
