Thye sad news just keeps coming with the death of legendary Philadelphia Soul Man Thom Bell. R.I.P. and thank you for the music https://www.soultracks.com/story-thom-bell-dies (December 22, 2022) We are devastated to share the news of the passing of the iconic producer, arranger and songwriter Thom Bell, at age 79, as reported by Philadelphia station WDAS-FM. Much of Soul music history over the last half century has revolved around great producer/artist combinations. But no combination was more pleasing than the work of the Spinners and producer Thom Bell from 1972-77. With "Mighty Three" partners Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, Bell created the Sound of Philadelphia, the most important and dominant sound of the early and mid 70s, and the heir to the dominant Motown sound of the 60s. And as a songwriter, producer and arranger, Bell established himself as one of the most important Soul music figures of all time.

That's the trouble when they all sit with Djs. I remember when the batch of 19 turned up, they practically all went to the big Djs and the same for most of the subsequent ones since. Djs don't know how to look after a record. They think because they pay a lot of money it should be played at every opportunity. Still a rare record.

Yes mate

More often than not records like this, in demand floor fillers, it usually makes little difference where they came from unless on a UK copy. DJs will pay what it takes to get them.
-
Merry Christmas and all the best for 2022 Mike and to the team as well.

Masquerader, Sammie “Sam" Lee Hutchins Passes Away R.I.P
Chalky posted a topic in All About the SOUL
The scene has lost another legend in Masquerader, Sammie “Sam" Lee Hutchins. He was part of one of the finest groups ever and an extremely popular group on the scene. The group have a catalogue to rival any with many of their recordings becoming staple plays for many Djs. They recently made it to the semi-finals of America's Got Talent and in the process bringing their music to a new huge untapped audience. R.I.P. and thank y.ou for the music Sam in the centre The groip made an announcement on their social media page on Facebook... -
Hot boxers or cheque book Djs and they aren't necessarily new to the scene, I can think of plenty like that over the years, even today.
-
I got it pretty cheap off ebay, can't remember exactly what but it wasn't a lot. LIke I say I sold it for around 50 quid, maybe a bit more 3 or 4 years ago.
-
I agree its jst an OK record but its been about a lot longer than 10 years, I played it out getting on 20 years ago and it was played before that
-
Hopefully they will add some more, may up t'north....not sure these promoters think the north exists

well you certainly have a collection of books
-
I sold one about three years ago for I think £50 nor so, wasn't mint, Vg or Vg +. I'd expect a bit of a rise in price but $800 plus dollars is a joke.
-
The US copy was fetching 150/175 2 or 3 years ago, £200/250 plus now for a US copy I'd say. Canadian, certainly a lot tougher that its US counterpart.

Not one mention of what Kevin Sinfield has done for humanity as well as sport.

Book: Soul Serenade King Curtis and His Immortal Saxophone
Chalky commented on Mike's article in News Archives
He could make that sax talk. Buddy Holly was one of my earliest musical loves and I remember I had to find out who was playing sax on some of his records. -
Fantastic and rightly so, brilliant comp. If you are still looking for a copy seek out the dealers, Fish, Creative Soul etc.
