  1. Actually Steve, I realised that about after the first topic on this subject, this must be topic 57 or something
  2. I like what I like Pete, there's plenty I don't like of all genres. I simply don't dismiss something like many do on here when they haven't even heard it or because it was made after December 1969. Many slag off the venues that play across the board when they've never been anywhere except places like Kings Hall and other oldies nights. You see it in many topics, thats why many don't bother on here. It is a fantastic club btw
  3. There is a whole host of collectors of soul music of all genres Pete, many don't get involved on here, especially the Europeans, because of a lot of the sh*t that occurs on many of the topics. Go on some of the facebook groups and they are involved there simply because it is less hassle.
  4. Northern Soul is also a global scene something many insular UK residents don't realise or accept. Northern Soul isn't a genre, it takes from various genres and funk or funk edged Soul has been played for decades, it is nothing new. I don't think anyone particular style will ever work on this scene, many records are tried, the good is kept the chaff forgotten until trends change again.
  5. Was he the James Hendrix who owned Carrie records? or was there another?
  6. It isn't meant to deceive in a callous deceitful illegal money making scam way though is it. Is simply meant to put people off finding the disc for a period of time while some exclusivity is kept by the DJ or collector who has put the work in finding the rare record(s) in the first place. Whether it remains rare once uncovered is another matter. Most of the top end DJ's covering records up are covering up rare records that are part of their set, not ripping anyone off, not even the artists.
  7. Sad news. Enjoyed his contributions in particular about the old days, some good articles of his on here somewhere. My sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.
  8. They are back in fashion (or was) with jeans/trousers with an elasticated bottom, Toms I think Ellie refers to them.
  9. I would think a DJ covering a record to protect his playlist and retain some exclusivity and some unscrupulous dealer covering a pop record and ripping someone off is two totally different matters. Anyone who covers up a pop record and blatantly rips off a customer deserves a good kicking. A no lawyer would take on what you suggest as he knows full well he would never win the case.
  10. I know Mark but is it a usb connection? I am only asking as I've not used one. If it is you should be able to use audacity or free recorder. Record the 45 and save it to PC. You don't have to use the software it is supplied with, or I never have with the various ones I have used.
  11. Can you not save the track first to your PC then add to iTunes?
  12. I remember the Jo Boxers at the 100. I can remember my divvy mates wearing boxer boots when they went in the town when they were charting
  13. Mate of mine would get a half chicken dinner in the services. :o
  14. I remember McDonalds......
  15. I can't remember where we went after, always somewhere but never took much notice. Then the London Gateway services on the way back north.
  16. This will tell you when they started.... https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/100history.htm When I started going I'm sure it was a 1am start? I can't remember beer or was there beer till about 3?
  17. I was gonna say this was always a steady £150 or thereabouts for years and surely it can't have doubled in price?
  18. I have Stratoliners down as a Pat Brady play first? Jo Ann Garrett was c/u as The Passionettes.
  19. Dave still about and living in Newcastle at the moment. I think he said he is moving back down Notts last time I spoke to him. You should get connected on FB David, plenty of old faces on there. I'll mention you to him next time we speak.
  20. I think we pretty much discounted George Smith over on the Stafford facebook page. We was wondering if Jock heard right and it was actually Hey Little Girl which Pat sometimes used for Carl Carlton (Jnr McCants)? I can honestly say I never heard Pat use or have any tape recording etc to back up that Pretty Little Girl was Jnr McCants.
  21. I agree why not? You are missing out on some great soul music via cd. Don't necessarily agree the quality is better but I like to have a hard copy and copy to PC and iPod. Download if that's the only way or if I just want a particular track and not the whole cd.
  22. I don't care how naughty they are Byrney, I wanna her them I can remove the names for legal reasons if I use the story
  23. It came from John Vincent as far as I am aware. John told me he offered it to Richard late Wigan and Richard said it was too good for the Northern crowd.
  24. Have you been through the Stafford podcasts David? There was quite a few you hadn't got on your page?
