Search for Bags And Beans, thats the name on the label. Unforgettables is stamped on above the title. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-45-BAGS-AND-BEANS-Trust-Your-Luck-SAMONE-HEAR-/380615105589?nma=true&si=sxQwnWbbJauL%252BJUAUljouxMvFzI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Maybe if you had said the record fooled some, that might have been read differently?? I didn't realise it was all made for the Northern Scene in the UK? Here's me thinking a load of US musicians trying to score a hit either locally or nationally over there, instead they were really making records for us
-
The record didn't fool the majority, most knew it was a tailor made recent recording straight away. Many a discussion at the time, often very heated. Anyway that is in the past and we all know the history. It isn't that good, Venecia Wilson is better but not much, but like I said there's many an under rated record ignored, records that this scene is all about not recent tailor made material, nothing to do with snobbery.
-
Yep you are right, Miles Grayson. I still doubt they changed the colour and layout for one release then changed it back again? Not to say they didn't though just logically you would think not.
-
I was buying both not so long ago. Not sure why as both crap.
-
There are some great underplayed records out there, proper soul by proper soul singers and people want to play this sh*te.

Everything you read says that blue was first but I have my doubts. The label changed from yellow for the Brenda George to green for the Gaturs, why change to blue and then back to green for subsequent releases? Unless they weren't happy with green so changed to blue? They were then even less happy with blue so back to green? They even changed the layout for the blue release. Logically this wouldn't make sense to change and then change back, logic would say the green were first whilst the label was active and the blue later. What colour was "Peeped"?

P.S. I think it is a great dancer

I would agree, It is the only connection I can see and one of the writing credits having the same surname of Jimmy Lord Brown. I've never seen anything to suggest Flight were Brick or anything else.
-
It says on the label co-produced by Jimmy Lord Brown/Brick, I guess that is the connection.
-
From reading the above the label was still run from Cincinnati, especially the recording, mastering and pressing of the records. Most record companies had offices in other cities simply to secure local talent.
-
I though everything was done in Cincinnati, recording, acetates, mastering, pressing and storage and distribution, everything I've read suggest it was.
-
They were always in Cinncinatti up until Syd Nathan's death late 60's. As far as I am aware they didn't move to Chicago even when sold on after his death.
-
Please Don't Go played by a few including Clarky and Pat.
-
Dave Thorley at Stafford. i bought my copy in the 80's and was playing it out late 80's and early 90's. Sold it around 93.

Lifeline Soul Club: The Real Deal Rare Soul All-Nighter is Ten Years Old
Chalky posted an article in News Archives
Lifeline Soul Club: The Real Deal Rare Soul All-Nighter is Ten Years Old. 21st February, 2004 saw Andy Dyson and Mick H with myself doing the promoting bring to the scene the Lifeline Real Deal Rare Soul All-nighter too a full house at the much missed Sheridan’s in Dewsbury. Move forward to 22th February 2014 and we celebrate 10 years of Rare Soul All-nighters. Time really does fly because it doesn't seem like ten years since Nick Stevenson kicked off the first night to a packed club eager to hear the best the scene had to offer. Since that night a who’s who of the soul world from around the UK and Europe have graced the decks at Lifeline playing to eager crowds a fantastic array of rare soul music. I’d attempt to name all the guests but I know for sure I would upset someone by forgetting them. Since Sheridan's, the Club has had a couple of other venues since settling in at our current home of the The Brookfields Club, better known to most as The Stables to most. In-between we resided at The Ye Olde Bell near Retford, a top quality venue I personally wish we could go back to. We hosted what were in my own opinion two of the best weekenders I’ve ever attended and many others said the same. We then moved to The Fox, off the A1 at Colsterworth which just didn’t work, too out of the way for many. We then got the chance of moving too the Stables, a top quality all-nighter venue with large dance floor and balcony. click to view in full Back to the present. Reluctant DJ and top collector Nick Stevenson returns to help us celebrate 10 soulful years. Baghdad’s (and the South Coast occasionally) Russ Vickers is flying in to make his debut behind the Lifeline decks. A long time collector, Dj and promoter, we are looking forward to what Russ has to offer on the night. We will hopefully be welcoming the return of Soul Sam to the decks after his recent serious illness. As usual Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H, Cliff Steele and myself (Chalky) will be playing the very best in Rare Soul from the 60’s, some 70’s and knowing Sam something more recent. To see out our tenth anniversary will be Nottingham’s Rob Smith. Everyone involved with Lifeline, Andy and Mick, Myself, Mandy and Wendy, would like to thank everyone who has helped us reach our tenth anniversary. All the DJ’s, the record dealers in the balcony, the door staff for looking after you all and most important of all everyone who has paid their hard earned money to come through the door to dance, tap your feet or stroke your chin, without you there would be no club!! Moving forward a little, unfortunately the Stables Club for April and June was already booked for weddings when we tried to book our dates again. After attempts to secure another venue were beginning to look fruitless Mace came to the rescue with the offer to put on a co-promotion at the newly refurbished Sutherland Road Community project, better known to most as Bidds. A link to some photos before and after at the refurbished club….. https://www.facebook.com/SutherlandCentreBidds/photos_stream The venue has been transformed in to a two room entertainment venue. Seating removed and replaced, brand new dancefloor, toilets……you won’t recognise the place!! click to view in full Lifeline for the two months mentioned have agreed with the top R&B Club POW WOW to put on a joint promotion. So Lifeline will be in the main room and Pow Wow will be in the second. we are hoping to try and recreate the spirit of Sheridan’s when the top soul clubs from around the country all promoted under one roof. You will hear in the main room the usual Rarest of the rare, forgotten quality oldies from a £5 to £15000 and in Room 2 Pow Wow will treat you to the very best in R&B, Rhythm and Soul, Boogaloo and much more besides. Full details will follow in due course. We hope to see you all there…we will be back at the Stables in August. SHSDaveFeb 06 2014 02:15 PM Chalky, I'm getting on a bit & the memory isn't what it was but surely the Fox was before Ye Olde Bell ? I wish it was possible to move back there as well as I'd be able to get there ! No matter ;-) congratulations on 10years, a great niter & 2 brilliant weekenders All best to all Dave chalkyFeb 06 2014 09:10 PM Unless my memory is totally shot it was the Bell after Sheridans. Winsford SoulFeb 08 2014 10:25 PM Looking forward to celebrations at the new look bidds. Am sure Mace will soon bring it back down to a level we love. Steve tfkFeb 09 2014 07:43 AM Nice article Chalky - defo brought the memories flooding back ... wow 10 years - now were as the time gone ? tfk chalkyFeb 10 2014 12:21 PM Do you know Dave I think my memory is f**ked. just do a bit of research and it would appear we were at the Fox before the Bell, 10th December 2005, the first one at the Fox. We were still at the Fox in June 2006 but must have moved in August or October that year? I can't find an event listing for first Ye Olde Bell night so will have to get old flyers out. Pretty sure the first weekender would be 2007 and the second and last 2008 and moving to the Stables that year. 2009, April we were at thenStables as i had a broken Elbow then and been out of hospital long and it is the only night I have missed. Will try and do a proper timeline of events at the weekend. i'd love another weekender at the Bell, best I have been too. chalkyFeb 10 2014 12:26 PM We were at the Stables in February 2009 as well so must have moved there in 2008. Yes I knew it was that way around Chalky because the first Lifeline I went to RBMan drove up to the Fox. Yeah loved the weekenders at the Bell Cheers mate Dave -
Not sure if it's been mentioned but Eugene Church - Dollar Bill on World Pacific.
-
do you have any midnight express mags Duncan?
-
Its pretty popular from what I hear. I haven't been, been left Chesterfield for getting on 6 years now but I'm told by mates from town it is in the main oldies, probably largely what was being played the last time you went to a soul night. Not sure who the DJ's are on the night but I'm sure you would enjoy it, its probably the best venue I've ever been in.

It'll be Rob Moss who is selling it.

Do You Feel Sorry For Northern Soul Collectors Starting Out
Chalky replied to Wiganer1's topic in All About the SOUL
Collectors today have it easy. They don't even have to get out of their chair. No digging through box after box at venues, learning from your mistakes, learning what was what, boot, original pressing and so on, usually through mistakes s not everyone was very helpful. Today they just ask a question on the likes of this site, they don't have to learn anything as the hard work has been dome for them.
