Who's Got The Tommy & The Derby's On Kool.? "going Back To Houston"
Related? As in discussion or that Tommy & The Derbys on Swing and Kool are the same and that they are the Carpets as well? I don't see any conclusive proof though just educated guess work. One thing for sure it isn't Tommy Tate on the Kool 45. Me I think the names are just a coincidence until proven otherwise.

Pretty sure I've heard him play it at Lifeline but not 100%

Are You One?
Don't get me wrongI am not embarrassed, nor do they ridicule and if they did believe me I can give as good as I get. I forgot you are not in this country and given that fact it must be very different with regards to knowing or not knowing about the scene.

Are You One?
It is no bug bear, I don't particularly care that if am in to Northern Soul, modern soul, rare soul whatever soul I was simply giving an opinion of what Northern Soul comes across as to many of my mates who aren't into the scene. I doubt there are too many who haven't heard of Northern Soul? Bloody hell it is in every facet of the media today, it is all over the place, they must have been living on another planet. You can explain as much as you like what the music is about, and I doubt many will not agree with what you say above, but many of my non soul mates don't know much about the music but they all know the image it has, the clowns on the seas front with a dress on each leg, the drugs, that is what they know and it doesn't look good.

Who's Got The Tommy & The Derby's On Kool.? "going Back To Houston"
No it isn't Tommy Tate and a different Derbys to the Swing release The youtube channel is Kev Higham's so maybe he has it too. There is at least one other out there.

Are You One?
Northern soul was once cool. We were better than our "normal" mates as we were part of the greatest underground music scene. They were wondering what we got up to over the weekend, there was some mystique around us. Now the term just conjures up everything divvy, tacky and uncool. Our mates now laugh because of the image portrayed by some. As said it is no longer confined to the north, it is world wide so may be rare soul is a better term?

After Wigan?
I've asked Keb, he says it was at Loughborough (Town Hall I presume) and it was Darrell Banks. Played it about 5 times and said something like "there you are, great record, but are you not fed up with it yet? I'm now going to play something new instead". He thinks he threw it into the crowd, he can't remember if he broke it or not.

After Wigan?
Think Minsh was running those, was definitely the odd one or two in late 81, maybe very early 82 (I have some echoes somewhere with adverts in) and then Dave T got on board and Top Dog began life in April 82.

After Wigan?
Whilst researching the Stafford Story I was told by more than one person that it was a very brief Mecca spin. It was later reactivated and made big by Chris Plant. That is what i am led to believe.

Hamilton Movement "she's Gone"
It was definitely around before the 25 give or take the odd one turned up early 2000, I'd go for later 90's when hearing it out and about. Didn't hear Keb too much when he was into his Deep Funk. Keb was as far as I am aware the first to make anything of the record.

Hamilton Movement "she's Gone"
Butch found it in the early 90's but it was a few years later when Butch let Keb have it. It would be early 2000, around the time Lifeline was starting when the box of 20 odd were found and it hit the Northern/Rare Soul scene big style. Most of the copies went to DJ's or collectors who were DJing.

After Wigan?
From the beginning, 82 & 83. I will check when they stopped. Two eras if youlike for Tony's as well, The time when Guy ran it and then yourself Mick.

After Wigan?
It is such a vast story, you need to get the venues and the timeline as suggested and then decide what you wish to focus on and take it from there. Some of the venues despite being popular were not ground breaking and featured mainly oldies, especially during the 90's.

Hamilton Movement "she's Gone"
Maybe as many good as bad was off the mark but from what I do know are Wigan records, there is many that are extremely poor, many that haven't stood the test of time BUT I could say that about other eras as well. Younonly have to look at the vast number of records played in the past and how many most DJ's rely on to satisfy the dancers, a small percentage when analysed. The point I was trying to make is when you are attempting to be ground breaking dross is going to get played, Mecca, Wigan, Cleethorpes, Stafford and today. The Hamilton Movement, well if I had a choice of some of the Wigan pop or records like the Hamilton Movement I know which I would choose.

After Wigan?
If you go to my site you will see the most complete record of who played what at Stafford, still more to do. There is almost 60 podcasts, nearly 300 photos of the rogues who frequented not just Stafford but Oddfellows, Blackburn, Chesterfield and may other 80's venues. I have echoes from the year and half after Wigan and there are a lot of bleak weekends but the two mainstays were probably Cleethorpes and Clifton Hall until early to mid 1982. You then got Stafford, Oddfellows, Morecombe, 100 Club, Warrington, Blackburn, Chesterfield Winding Wheel, Bradford and countless other venues, some just a nighter or two, some a year or two. i have loads of flyers, many on my flickr page, echoes and other magazines. Let me know what you want specifically and will help where ever. I will be doing a definitive written history of Stafford with hopefully Dave Thorley when I get to the end of the podcasts.

After Wigan?
Whenever it was it wasn't when Stafford started in April '82 unless it was another DJ.

Hamilton Movement "she's Gone"
I don't need to go anywhere to form an opinion about any particular record, just like you are forming an opinion about this record. You seem to have an opinion about more records than anyone on here witout out justification of ever attending a venue where it was played.
