Apparently Saus had a record covered up as Billy Joe Royal and it actually was him? He just changed the titel, that is all he can remember. It might jog his memory when he listens.
Ey up mate, that'll be the one John Manship auctioned/sold 89/90, now resides with Richard Searling I think. There is a scan on the site I posted of it somewhere.
Off top of me head, three 60's, two slower and one quicker tempo and two late 60's early 70's take. They might be done same time just funky wah wah guitar and such.
I know of I think 5 takes, all by the Originals using at least two different leads, Freddie Gorman and CP Spencer. Never heard of one by the Monitors. The Prophets, Detroit Prophets and any other name are bootlegs.
I'm not sure Drew, not even sure if the The David 45 ever saw a release, some dispute as to whether it did or not and next to nothing about it anywhere. Saus can't remember what it was and he no longer has it.
There's been a top[ ten LP's doing the rounds on another social media outlet and Millie Jackson Caught Up and Still Caught Up have featured a lot and with soul music like this you can see why...
Both LPs along with John Edwards' Aware LP are gracing my decks this morning in between jobs.
Test pressings aren't promos though and shouldn't be confused with them. They are not meant for any kind of distribution, as Richard says production control.
I've grabbed the eBay one Dave and although it is the same record it sounds like a different artist so it is the 'The David' I'm looking to listen to. I have a tape on its way so hopefully a decent copy. I can't find my Saus tapes in the garage.
The Larry Marks acetate states that it was for the VMC label. I've just dug out a VMC listing and there is a 45 in it by "The David" entitled yep you guessed 'Don't Slam The Door In My Face'. It is the flip to a track called 'Sandy'.
I can't find a sound file anywhere, does anyone have the 45 by any chance? Does anyone have a sound file I could maybe listen to somehow?
