Dunno if anyone has already mentioned but this is Cody Marshall on Sound Judgement. Looks a great set bar one or two, has it been uploaded (I haven't caught up with all the posts yet)? P.S. Now caught up and seen Petebangor mentioned it

Satisfaction Guaranteed - Motown Guys 1961-69 - Kent
Chalky commented on Mike's article in News Archives
Fantastic CD. Motown just do not realise or appreciate some of the material they canned. -
The Major also did Stafford and think he did somewhere else as well?

Got a mesage earlier today with the sad news and I am shocked. Like most knew Tony well, funny as f*** with his witty one liners. You never knew when he was being serious. Top top bloke, a character and will be greatly missed. R.I.P. Tony.

Get On Up This Weekend in the Uk - James Brown Film
Chalky commented on Mike's article in News Archives
Mick Jagger poarently the prodcer of this and he is the guest on Mayo & Kermode Film review on Friday talking about it. -
There are dozens and dozens of classics fit for any venue including Kings Hall and Blackpool that don't have to cost the earth. There are also may competent DJ's with the right attitude and quality play boxes good enough for any oldies venue. There is abslutely no need nor any excuse for playing boots or reissues at any major event. It is irrelevant IMO what the paying punters think or whether they care, it is the duty of the promoter to care and set some standards. As long as those who have paid good money are happy that is all that matters and there is no reason to move away from origianls to satisfy this......IMO of course.

Never realised Tommy Ridgely was Wigan spin for Searling. Always thought it was John Vincent and few years later.

I understand that Rick and don't disgree but like I said i think we are simply just complicating matters for the sake of it. We generally class records as either, demo (or promo), issue (local and nationally for general sale to the public)), reissue or a bootleg. It is irrelevant if the pink is a special press, it was for all imtents and purposes the first time it was made for sale to the public. So really unless a pink chess distributed copy appears, and there's never been one seen as far as I'm aware or any proof it was even pressed, then this pink one has to be the first issue for general sale.

Nick & the Jaguars was a one off deal for a pre recorded song rather than a signed contract as Motown artists. Debbie Dean was I think the first contracted white Motown Artist to record, I think
-
It was never issued for general public release or sale though, that's the point I was making. It only got as far as the promotional stage and obviously did nothing over there and release was dropped. It was then issued for the first time on general sale to satisfy the market here.

Well thought out, with imagination and please the dancers then you could get plenty of spots. Thing is there are enough Dj's with the big money rarities you don't need to go down the bootleg or reissue route. Use them with a couple of upcoming youngsters who are doing it right with imagination and it can only be of benefit to the scene. Variety is the spice of life so they say

If you can't afford a Rolls Royce you don't buy a bootleg Roller do you. You buy within your means and the same should apply to records, buy originals within your means.

Open the flyer Pete and you will see the year. April 83. 1st anniversary. What memorabilia have you got, I would be interested. -
This is where it all starts to get ridiculous and some do like to make it hard work. The demo isn't a first issue, it is what it says a demo. The pink one is the first issue albeit done after the popularity of the disc over here and to satisfy demand here. It can't be a reissue as it hadn't been issued prior to the pink one, just the promo/demo copies that were in circulation.

Hi and thanks. Not sure who it was but I would imagine all on that stage are considered big names? Also with just a top 500 dumbed down to 100 as Kev says you would think they could easily satisfy the dancers with quality originals? I do think it all gets too anal at times though and certain parts of the scene are in danger of disappearing up its arse.

Spot on Kev with all you say. Andy comfortable in whatever environment he is asked to DJ at. I love an oldies night out occasionally and take them at face value, KGH one of the best and if it wasn't for my job I would be doing more nighters including KGH, but I have to be choosey these days. I also have l;little interest in DJ these days and my collecting habits are also changing, more 70's and 80's lately and mainly LP's. As for unpopular but brilliant vinyl depends on the venue, I know where I go they seem pretty popular, not on the scale of KGH but then again not many places are.
-
Again I think you are missing the whole point of this? But by the same token instead of playing a reissue/acetate of a reissue the big name DJ in question should delve into collection of 'quality' vinyl and play an over looked much cherished classic? They are after all paid a lot of money, and a lot of money is paid buy the public and even if the paying public don't care, on such a stage shouldn't the DJ show he cares?
