  1. Been a long time since I listened to the PAD version but never heard it described as a remake by another artist before? Only ever heard it described as an edited down bootleg. I will have to listen again to both when I get the chance.
  2. I always thought it was a Carolina beach scene bootleg and as Joe says the 12 inch edited down for the 7. It was mentioned previously in a topic about Carolina boots that they had a habit of slightly changing the spelling of names.
  3. I know the backing, used on a few 45's, Mary Ann Miles 'Without Someone To Love' and the Satin Dolls just two of which this is neither.
  4. One on gemm for 60 odd dollars
  5. Some one played it at Wigan, it is on the tape?
  6. According to the tape it is Richard but he says he never played it. It was then played by John Vincent early 80's, Butch was playing it late 85 into 86, maybe earlier?
  7. He played it at places like Morecambe 82/83.
  8. It is also a Monarch Press from October/November 1965.
  9. He was astill adamant he didn't, haven't listened to the recording dso can't comment about who is/was djing.
  10. Winfred "Blue" Lovett, the distinctive bass singer and principal songwriter for the legendary group, The Manhattans, has died at age 74, just a few days after the death of group co-founder Sonny Bivins. Their death brings sad news to fans of one of the greatest soul music vocal groups of our time. https://www.soultracks.com/story-blue-lovett-dies
  11. Take Butlins and Kings Hall out of the equation, the rest are all after the same crowd. 137 miles is nothing for the all-nighter crowd who travel on a regular basis. Some just seem to have no respect for other promoters or promotions. There isn't room for the ever increasing number of promotions, it is simply splitting the crowd. One or two on this topic have had more clashes than the Titans. There is a complete lack of morals, etiquette and respect on the scene today.
  12. The Four Perfections singing "If You and I Had Never Met". Written by the group members for Magic Night. Live at New Century Soul Club's 11th Anniversary special 29-11-14.
  13. Witout looking at the labels, local/national releases.
  14. All Chris seems to have done since reappearing is piss off other promoters. He just doesn't seem to give a f*** about anyone or anything else.
  15. Richard played Tommy Ridgely as part of my top 3 on his show today. I mentioned that I never realised it was one of his Wigan spins and he said it was news to him as well. So I sent him the set list and he said it is all spot on apart from in his words "All look correct except I never played Wilbur Walton or Tommy R".
  16. Been a while since I did a podcast for the Stafford Story so here we present one featuring the plays of Keith Minshull. Keith Minshull, a somewhat unsung hero of the scene who rarely gets the recognition he deserves. Keith was running all-nighters at the Top Of The World prior to it becoming the Stafford we know. He teamed up with Dave Thorley and began promoting all-nighters under the Top Dog Soul Club banner in early 1982, the rest is history. As with this set, not all are discoveries or first played by Keith. There are some Casino biggies, particularly for Richard Searling, some Stafford “oldies”, Dave Withers with the unissued Motown for instance and the odd spin or two for Gary Rushbrooke, all along side some plays made popular by Keith. One thing is for sure Keith’s last hour spots were enjoyed many many and he he certainly knew how to work a floor. 17. btw by Johnny Come Lately I don't mean youngsters or 20 somethings
  18. Don Gardner said the same about Cheating Kind as did many artists about their material. The one found was a Columbia demo I think so in that sense she is correct, never issued.
  19. What constitutes going big? going from a 20/30 record to 150 quid? It has had constant plays on the scene for nigh on 30 years, been a very popular track for DJ's from my experience over these years. All of a sudden someone pays what many reckon is a daft amount and it's rarely been played prior to this? I don't know the demagraphics of those buying it but I doubt very much the majority are 20 somethings Don't get me wrong it is great to see records like this getting attention but common sense seems to go out of the window as usual with this scene.
  20. It was a one off acetate but sure one was found some years ago on Columbia, John Manship sold to Sam I believe. I think if memory serves me correctly Richard Searling played it other week on his radio show so probably has the Columbia one now.
  21. Irene and the Scotts has been played long before recent times. I was playing it late 80's early 90's and plenty of others have over the years. It is no more popular now with collectors than say 15/20 years ago, it is probably the johnny come lately dj's who are now cottoning onto it and pushing the price up. There are copies out there to satisfy demand, we've seen no end for sale in recent times, every week practically. That is probably the reason for the dismay in the price hike?
  22. and a few photos of the group https://www.flickr.com/photos/crosseyedbear/sets/72157647297015254/
