  1. You can buy the whole box set for not much more, that is why greed is mentioned. As said in a previous topic some aren't happy with making twice what they pay, they want five or six times what the pay, that is greed. I can understand the capitalism argument for genuine rarities but prices like this are simply exploitation.
  2. Who is the brainless scarecrow gonna be then
  3. Seems to be mate. If you see one give us a shout.
  4. Mid 80's and I think Guy? Could be wrong.
  5. I remember hearing it at Blackburn (Guy's Soultown All-nighters before the Nighters run by Mick Lyons). I picked one up around that time after hearing it, gave it the odd spin up t'north.
  6. following the recent deaths of two of the Manhattans members, Blue Lovett and Sonny Bivins, Kenneth "Wally" Kelly, the last surviving founder member of the group has passed away. http://www.soultracks.com/story-kenneth-kelly-dies In a year that has been filled with sad news for the millions of fans of the singing group The Manhattans, we have another piece: Kenneth "Wally" Kelly, the last surviving founding member of the group, has died. Kelly was there at the beginning of the iconic act and remained a member right through to the end of their hitmaking days in the late '80s. His death follows the December passings of two other original members, Blue Lovett and Sonny Bivins. Now, only Gerald Alston, the wonderful singer who joined the group in the early 70s and sang lead on their biggest hits, remains from the most popular version of the Manhattans. - See more at: http://www.soultracks.com/story-kenneth-kelly-dies#sthash.95NeVP9x.dpuf

  9. I might be coming for the Saturday so if I do will be there for that.
  10. Super read and a truly fitting tribute to arguably the greatest finder of rare soul music. Oh for a time machine to go back to the time the lists came out and to have todays tech with it, enough to make you cry reading some of the titles and prices when you consider what they achieve price wise in today's market. Some of those paying silly prices now do not realise in some cases just what quantity was available for some titles. What day and what time is the Soul Bowl tribute at Prestatyn?

  12. There's three times the amount of Palmer demos on popsike compared to Labeat issues. Just a couple or three Labeat demos. Probably about the ratio I've always seen it at since the 80's. I know in the early 2000's someone wanted one and could only find a Palmer copy then. As for water damage, that was from Lou Beatty's basement wasn't it John? John Anderson telling us he left loads floating in water with no labels on, just taking the remaining stock that had labels.
  13. I realise this, but you can bet the post office will take the declared value as the value. One of the Pinches is having trouble or was, the PO wouldn't take the sale price as value, only the price he bought it for and wanted proof of purchase. They also have a specific packaging guideline (in a jiffy bag) they don't tell you about but accept the standard mailer we all use when we post.

  15. If you declare a lower customs value and damage is caused that will probably be all that you can claim for I would have thought?
  16. Popsike only goes back 9 years, 2006. Looks to be more Palmer demos than Labeat copies on there just glancing through them.
  17. Never seen an issue if the Palmer reissue ;) Don't know anyone who has? Therefore until one is seen Labeat rarer. Used to see very few Labeat copies especially the issue, but you did see the Palmer one. Might be little in it regarding sale according to popsike but it only goes back a few years.
  18. Hasn't a Palmer release just sold for around 2.5k? LaBeat rarer IMO.
  19. He always had interests outside of soul. He was if I remember rightly promoting or managing a band at one time who weren't a soul act.
  20. who wears trousers? As for tax, paypal restrict your account when too much goes in via payments, especially from round the world. They are aware of money laundering and tax fiddles so you aren't secure with paypal, especially if they decide you are a business. Was told last week of an account being closed and not being able to access the money. I've had restrictions on mine at one time and had to answer shit load of questions.
  21. Steve Davis a regular at Thorne's Canal Tavern when Rod was the promoter.
  22. As for paypal fees, sellers should factor these in to their sales.
  23. The trouble with paypal is there is no real alternative. Well there is but not widely recognised or known about. For UK customers there is PAYM, a free system between banks which uses your mobile number. I've posted a topic or two about it on here but not many seem to interested? Most banks offer free bank transfer now, why peope don't use these facilities is beyond me. Maybe dealers should be making heir customers aware of PAYM and bank transfer? I rarely see them mentioned on lists, auctions etc.
