  1. knew it was one of them. Another mate has a copy of Cresa which he was looking to sell. JM probably the best place too.
  2. i know of 4 I think. If Rita Lee is worth that then Cressa must be £10k. It is a 70's press done for the scene by the label owner who was in touch with Barrie Wadd (I think) who was feedimg him info about what was in demand and popular. It was around a ton not too long ago.
  3. very few principles or morals when it comes to record buyers and sellers. Does anyone who sells at large profit give something to the artists involved? Doubt it very much. By general releae I mean to the general record buyers, the pop market. It was made for a specialist market, even more specialised back then and was bought via mail order. I would imagine any royalties from the deal would amount to very little. Again what did Milton owe Ollie for any session costs, probably more than any royalties. Not sure what they were sold at back then, not sure what the deal was between John and Ollie.
  4. There is different criteria for different establishments, clubs, venues, restaurants etc. For a restaurant according to the PRS site.... How is your licence fee calculated? We have a dedicated tariff covering restaurants and cafés. Licence tariffs depend on: seating capacityhow you play music (eg. in the background or DJs and live performances)if music is played on holdFor clubs.... Licence tariffs depend on: the size of your venuethe type of club you're runninghow you play music (eg. in the background, DJs and live performances)if you play music on holdDJs or karaoke jockeys may need a separate ProDub licence to play music at your venue. Please note, where they don’t have one, it may render your licence invalid. All the license types can be found here https://www.prsformusic.com/USERS/BUSINESSESANDLIVEEVENTS/MUSICFORBUSINESSES/Pages/default.aspx
  5. Anywhere that plays music, clubs, shops, workplaces, should have a license. The venue is responsible for that and has to fill in the necessary. Not sure if set lists have to be done these days. Maybe by radio stations and professional DJ's?
  6. We don't know what the contract was at the time of recording. He may well have been paid a one off fee. Artists usually have to pay studio time, pay for musicians etc. He may well have owed Ollie for all that. Even though he wrote it I doubt he owned the masters so Ollie would be entitled to do what ever he liked. And just how much do you think Milton Wright should be paid for a one off 300 press which I doubt amounted to very much at all back in the 70's. There would be no royalties for a start as it wasn't up for general release. Neither are royalties due on prices achieved at auction for a second hand record. Reality is often very different to what people believe.
  7. if they had asked for EOS on one of the various forums/groups and offered a couple of hundred they would probably have had a few offers of a copy. It isn't even rare.
  8. I have plenty of flyers etc from the 80's onwards
  9. If you offered 200 quid for EOS you'd probably get several offers of a copy. There is no rhyme or reason to the market right now, totally crazy. You only have to see some current auctions with records I wouldn't even have considered an auction item and far from rare fetching as much as or near to genuinely rare items.
  10. That's three known copies, or copies I know of then You have to smile when you see a bargain like this and then some fool paying over 800 quid for epitome of Sound
  11. Top marks to you Dave. It's one of the genuine rarest of the rare IMO, great record as well.
  12. Neither do venue owners want the baggage that comes with a Northern Soul allnigther. Potential licence problems, drugs, police interest, additional wages etc etc....
  13. I only know of one copy, Butch has it which I've seen but cannot remember evry detail.
  14. Weldon provided the photos didn't he, he more than likely knew nothing of the text in the book. Still say the author simply made an assumption that wasn't based on any real facts or research.
  15. Richard Searling was playing the new releases wherever he was DJing (as were other Modern DJ's), Clifton Hall, Stafford, Morecambe etc. He was certainly doing his Hallam Soul Show and heading straight to Stafford armed with the new releases of the week so I assume it would have been the same for the other venues he was involved with. any stories from Shaun?
  16. I think whoever wrote the piece in the book is simply making an assumption they are the same groups without doing much if any research?
  17. This one? https://www.ebay.com/itm/45-RPM-Rock-By-The-Swans-Nitty-Gritty-City-on-Dore-/121711043813?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c568b24e5&nma=true&si=Q58u4gZArw8w%2B1D3bLT2Oxf9f4c%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  18. The trouble is Russ the so called normals don't go home at midnight, it's 3,3 or even 4 am nowadays and the club owner makes moe money and pays less staff wages than he or she would for a nighter. Plus they are tucked up earlier. The hard core nighter folk are a dwindling and fickle bunch at best but the reality is as Phil says we are getting old, have little free time after work and family
  19. It's not just box sets. As soon as any new release on a 45 is out they are bought by some and sold for two or three times the original price. The Ola Onanule "Soultown"45 is up for sale on here at 20 quid when it can be bought for less than half that elsewhere online.
  20. A parrot squawks
  21. that's a half dayer
  22. i would personally say anything from six onwards is a nighter but many leave early these days anyway. Anything 4am and before is a soul night.

  24. From my own experiences at Carlton Club later on it was oldies. Others have also said apart from the modern it was oldies that were wanted. John Vincent had a fabulous set of upfront 60's newies but he was frustrated with the lack of willingness to embrace them. He said he packed the scene in disallusioned. Not saying no other newies were not featured by others as I know it wasn't the case.
  25. cheer. I did find the old topic but not much info just record speak. Interesting read though.
