  1. That's because they hadn't been hammered for 40 years.....we got into new discoveries so what is wrong with that for todays crowd? Surely it is about the quality not the venue it was played at? There is some fabulous brand new soul music as well. Take the blinkers off, as long as it is good enough there should be no problems.
  2. I never saw any discounting for the US buyers when the pound was strong?
  3. I thought when the price reached around £200 I thought that was too much but jeez £521 is balmy.
  4. Why do some expect the US sellers to discount? We have had it good as far as currency rates are concerned for a long time. A high pound isn't the norm. I didn't see many Brits discounting for the US buyers.
  5. Most at a venue are out of the old folks home these days
  6. Spoken to him today. He is and has been tied up fitting bathrooms at his and his mothers and decorating. He said today he's nearly done and can get back to records but I'll pass on you are seeking him.
  7. Great record IMO but it has never really worked or taken off. We used to play it at Lifeline but always struggled with it.
  8. By comparison though Azza, whilst the scene in Europe and further a field for that matter, is healthy and growing it is small by comparison to the UK. The amount of venues in the UK alone on any given weekend is probably more than the rest of the work put together, there's probably more venues in the North West than Europe on any weekend You are right though the scene in the Uk will change. Whilst there are more youngsters than say five years ago, there still aren't enough to replace the mass exodus that will happen given the average age of allnighter and indeed soul night attendees. The average age has to be in the 50s, I have little enthusiasm at the minute for nighters, mainly because of my job, 60-70 hours per week and away all week, and the recovery time. I cannot be alone in that regard. The large majority at any venue are getting on and they will leave the scene one way or another in the next ten years. I doubt there are enough or will be enough to replace them but that won't be a bad thing. Hopefully the commercialsim will recede and the divs with it. But far too many youngsters seem to be going down the oldies route, not sure if that is to get on the DJ bandwagon or if that is their preferred taste but hopefully that will change otherwise it will be as stale as it is now. But in reality no one knows how the scene will look, will the youngsters still be as dedicated and hard core when they have bills, mortgages and have to hold a job down...not to mention kids? P.S. i don't really care how it will look, it is up to those who will keep it going to define how it will be at the end of the day. I doubt anyone really cared 30 or 40 years ago, we were just youngsters living the life, I doubt any of us thought it would still be thriving today.
  9. There are no bands performing heir own material that can be considered "Northern Soul". There is no such genre anyway, Northern Soul is the scene. As said there are bands doing covers of old US soul tracks, many that are played on the Northern Soul scene but they have little relevance on the mainstream scene itself.
  10. The above is nothing new and has been happening in many university cities/towns for years. Yes they enjoy it but it is whatbhappens after the night and especially more so when they leave university, hardly any get into the scene, it is just a night out, hardly any have the dedication to take treat it more than a night out once a month. Practically none of them will travel to nighters etc. That in itself is fine, nothing wrong with that but it isn't going to help the scene prosper.
  11. Duke and Leonard seen at £250
  12. I have a US Everyday People I might consider selling, not interested in trades. Make me an offer via PM.
  13. From Wiki In December 1974, by which time he had moved over to Maury S. Rosen's MSR Records, Keith met his death on the Hollywood Freeway in Los Angeles. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times(which ran on December 16, 1974) Keith was seen "leaping or falling from an overcrossing onto the Hollywood Freeway," and he "plunged down the Santa Monica Blvd. overpass onto the northbound freeway about 5:15 a.m. and drivers could not avoid him." It has been suggested that this was a suicidal act, but Keith's heavy drug use at this time has led others to claim it was an accident.
  14. Gloria was one with same backing as "LTLS" that for some reason was popular wee while ago.
  15. Z.Z. Hill - Don't Make Promises on Kent? Same backing as Eddie Rey.
  16. He used the same backing for numerous tracks.
  17. tha stamp is some sort charity stamp for crippled children. October 1960 the first reference I could find for the Master Sound release not 61.
  18. Master sound definitely first, it gets a mention some 11 years earlier (although states Master 12) in billboard, 24th October 1960 to be precise.

  22. Soul Junction favourites The Coalitions return with a brand new recording done in conjunction with Soul Junction. Their album "Colour Me Blue" is a firm favourite with Soul music lovers with tracks picked up b Djs and dancers alike. Here we see a brand new recording backed with one of the favourites from the 2013 album release. Press Release: The Coalitions (a.k.a Rheel Menn) “Nothin’ Left 2 Do/Didn’t We Almost Make It” SJ535 Release Date: Monday October 17th 2016 The Coalitions (also known as The Rheel Menn) return with a brand new song entitled “Nothin’ Left 2 Do” a song recorded and produced in collaboration with Soul Junction Records during 2015 under the auspices of some of the City of Brotherly Loves finest musicians. We begin with the songwriters Lavern Bynum, Bruce Fauntleroy and Leroy ‘Shu-Baby’ Shuller. With the songs recording and mixes have been expertly done by producer, Craig White at Sound Doctor Productions LLC. Craig was the former studio manager at the world renowned Gamble & Huff studios. The mastering was done by Peter Humphrey’s at Masterwork Recording (USA). 2016 finally sees the initial release of “Nothin’ Left 2 Do” a song of forlorn hope for a former lost love, that’s oozes class from the opening horn riffs executed beautifully by Henri McMillians UGO Horn Section. But despite the songs sad lyrics the overall mood of the track is very pleasantly uplifting. The line up on this song features Philadelphians Leonard Deans, Tony McFarland, Bruce Fauntleroy (the songs co-producer), Alan Williams and Tony Anderson (a.k.a Tony Talent) who’s vocal ability is a throwback to the days of when nearly every street corner in many major US cites would resonate to a all male group harmony sound. A sound that these five gentlemen still regularly perform as a latter version of one of Philly’s finest harmony outfits ‘The Intrigues’ in the 360 Lounge of The Parx Casino. The b-side of this single features the now familiar “Didn’t We Almost Make It” a previously unissued 1979 recording that gaine its initial release as the opening track on the Coalition’s previous unissued album project “Colour Me Blue” (SJLP 5006) released during November of 2013. Although the whole of this acclaimed album received extensive airplay it was the opening song “Didn’t We Almost Make It” that really caught DJ’s and radio listeners imagination and prompted callers to beg the question as to whether we (Soul Junction) would ever consider releasing it as a 45 vinyl single, a call that we hope has now been answered. A slightly earlier and different line up recorded this song Tony Anderson (Talent), Alan Williams, Bruce Fauntleroy, Milton Williams and Stephen Ferguson being the performers responsible. Group members left–Right: Leonard Deans, Tony McFarland, Bruce Fauntleroy, Alan Williams and Tony (Talent) Anderson. 23. Probably not too much more but that is the trouble with something so rare, you have to pay a premium for something of lesser quality. I doubt one in decent nick would fetch much more than 3.5k but who knows? depends how bad someone wants the disc and how many want it. Lets face it though it ain't up there with the classics is it?
  24. Rolling Stones claiming The Last Time to be their work but was basically ripping off the Staples Singers This May Be The Last Time, fortunately for the Stones the song went way back. They still took songwriting credits, wonder if anything from the release made its way to the Staple Singers? Then when The Verve used the orchestral version by Andrew Loog Oldham on Bitter Sweet Symphony the Stones sued The Verve for ripping them off resulting in Jagger/Richards getting songwriting credits.
