  1. Who is looking down on anyone. Merely giving an opinion like anyone else. After all that is what a forum is for.
  2. Was covered in previous topic about the film. Said then it is something to simply publicise the film and true or not it should have been left out as no one around to corroborate the allegations.
  3. But those listening to the kinks, Spencer Davis etc weren't Northern Soul, that came later when it evolved from the early mod into what Dave Godin described as Soul from the North. Yes the mods were the roots of our scene but like everything it evolves...well not so much today but that's another argument The scene is essentially about black music. Many didn't like the introduction of the pop mid 70s and drifted away our found places were it wasn't so prevalent. Northern Soul was for me the right name, at the time and I still love the term, it gives us an identity even though it has been hijacked by the d*** of late.
  4. Depends what you think of them quality wise doesn't it, there are plenty of shite pop as well as belting
  5. Not sure why she take issue over two records being labelled pop (which they are), the scene is littered with pop records.
  6. That isn’t true either. The very history of how many records came about tells you they were never going to make a chart let alone become a hit. Small press runs, local presses, pressed to sell or give away at gigs etc. The vast majority would never get the promotion or backing so were never going to trouble the charts. Northern Soul isn’t a genre either, it is a scene made up of various genres and styles.
  7. Think a few had dibs at Gary’s?
  8. When I see OVO it is no longer about the music. It’s either about Djs who have bought a set cause they have a bottom less pit, playing unimaginative sets we’ve heard 1000s of times or about lowlife playing bootlegs.
  9. Never seen it discussed? you must have been reading the internet with your eyes shut
  10. Why on earth they thought she was black is beyond me?
  11. Both pop shite but if I was forced to choose it would be Susan Barrett, more Northern and I just can’t get along with Dusty full stop.
  12. Got one of t’other side too Ted
  13. I'm not missing any point. If any Dj has to resort to boots to keep the set alive he or she should pack it in. Like I said there is enough Djs with the real thing that we don't have to resort to booking Billy bootleg. As for acceptability, bootlegs are illegal, why would anyone find acceptable to support those who make and sell them?
  14. Any chance of hearing the tapes? The records played etc will come in handy for the book.
  15. Why not have a mixed and varied set of originals? You don’t have to spend thousands and this is where the root of the evil that bootlegs lie, they think they have to have all the expensive tunes otherwise beyond them. There is no credibility in playing bootlegs and to be frank playing all the big money classics is just boring. Imagination doesn’t cost a fortune.....
  16. But what has a Dj clearing the floor got to do with originals and bootlegs, nothing. That is down to the promoter and his booking of a dj unsuitable for the venue, or the punter not reading the flyer and going to the wrong thpe of event for their needs. I will reiterate what I said earlier, there is no need for anyone to be employed playing bootlegs, there are more tahn enough who can do the job with the originals.
  17. That maybe the case for some but many of the main players have spent and continue to spend a fortune. You have to to Dj at most of the nighters.
  18. But those records on soul sounds boots are played up and down the country on original vinyl by dozens of djs. They aren’t particularly rare. Your arguement doesn’t stand up. Those records you think are dross might be enjoyed by the majority of dancers there. Again your argument doesn’t stand up.
  19. You aren’t allowed to use your imagination, you have to have a set that is more expensive than the previous Dj. It is all about what a Dj spends not what he or she contributes. They also think cause they spend a lot they have a god given right to Dj. Fookin boring usually too.
  20. What’s unbelievable is some of the comments on here. Yes it is all about the music and it is what attracted us to the scene (plus our divvy mates weren’t there) but that was all based on rare original records, and not so rare. Yes the odd emi etc was played to push a newie or a record stuck with a collector that would at one time never have been heard but it was essentially originals. But today it is different. Loads of Djs with the biggies on original releases, there really is no need to book billy bootleg. If youncan’t do it right then f*** o** and leave it to those that can. If you insist then be a good promoter and tell people paying their hard earned that you are playing bootlegs at your event. The punter then has a choice.
  21. Laughable comment innit, they are second hand records. The artists have had more recognition because of this scene, they got none in the country and zero sales of their work.
  22. If you wanna be a fake Dj and a fake promoter just let everyone know so they can make a choice of who and what they wish to support. And Julian name and shame so we can avoid
  23. Its on an Lp too.
  24. Every possibility! There is similarities although I’m listening on ipad.
  25. Didn’t Soul Bowl get quantity and therefore Richard getting it to aid future sales?
