Andy definately had a few copies, I remember scanning it, and the Darling Dears, and taking sound files. I seem to remember Andy’s came from the states, could be wrong. I thought someone had been at the stock before the rest were shipped to Aus. Again could be wrong, it was 8 or 9 years ago and I have trouble remembering breakfast some days.

New Soul Junction 45 - Robert Montgomery - A Love Song About You
Chalky posted an article in News Archives
Press Release: Robert Montgomery “Love Song About You/I Love You So SJ540 Release Date: Monday 30th July 2018 Robert Montgomery is a Singer, Songwriter, Performer, Producer, Keyboard and Organ Instrumentalist, who began his music career in his early teens jamming with local bands in his small hometown of Rome, Georgia. The most notable being “The Sons of Aries”. Performing their own blend of rock, soul, and jazz, kept them very busy throughout the southeastern states. However, they never gravitated to recording any original material and eventually disbanding. It was then that Robert began to write his own songs. One such tune was the soulful “I Need You Girl,” a song based on personal experience with his future wife, Emma. By now in his early 20’s Robert was an aspiring solo artist. Hooking up with a crafty local businessman named Jeffrey Jackson Jr, He entered the studio and recorded “I Need You Girl,” using guys from his former group who were by then called ‘Chain Reaction’. So the song was released on Jackson’s label, Crescent Records, but due to a shoestring budget the 1000 copies pressed were poorly distributed and the song never really achieved any great level of success. Following 12 months on the road with a group called Villaruz, in 1978 Robert moved to Atlanta. Following an invitation to join a band he’d heard rehearsing as their keyboard and organ player, Robert began a short tenure with the Michigan funk group “Ripple” who themselves had moved to Atlanta upon signing with GRC Records. Ripple recorded several hit singles for GRC including “I Don’t Know What It Is, But It Sure Is Funky”. Followed by the seminal album “Sons Of The Gods” for Salsoul Records in 1977, which featured their perennial disco/hustle classic “The Beat Goes On And On”. During a later period of reconstruction by Ripple’s band leader percussionist Brian Sherrer. Robert used musicians from Ripple to record four self-penned songs as a vanity project which remained unissued, two of which have since been released as a Soul Junction 45 the modern soul dancers ‘Time Of The Day/Take Me High’ (SJ537). While a third track, the excellent ballad ‘Love Song About You’ made it’s initial debut as part of the popular ”We Got A Sweet Thing Going On “ (Volume 3) cd compilation series to great acclaim, following requests for it to put on a 45 we have duly obliged placing it back to back with Robert’s remaining previously unissued track the more dance orientated “I Love You So” complete with girl backing singers. Thus in doing so, we have now completed the trilogy of Robert Montgomery’s recording output. New Release - Broken Hearts Inc - Kimberlite Records

I do prefer individual LPs from he groups but I guess that depends on what material they have. The Estimations, will there be a repress or an LP. £60 plus on discogs for a new release, that is what narks me about the limited press new releases, many buy to sell once they are sold out at an inflated price and the collectors miss out. But, keep up the good work! -

I meant they aren't promotional, they are for sale for a start and they aren't used to promote. You are right though buyers choice but I'm not a fan of the limited runs of say 300. The cost isn't that much more for 500 or even a 1000. That surely is the best way to make more money? I'd like to see an LP( is one in the future plans Kimberlite?) as that is what I collect these days but I do buy new releases too. -

Demos? But they aten’t demos are they, just a way to eek extra out of the collector. Good release mind. -
A more comprehensive Monarch dating guide....remember not only Monarch used the Delta number system, other pressing companies such as Alco used it too. Each plant has their own stamp but all will use the delta triangle followed by one of the numbers in the chart From discogs.... Monarch Stamp Alco Stamp

That maybe true but if you do a weekend that may well be your budget for the month, maybe two? That will have a detrimental effect on what has been the lifeblood of the scene, all-nighters and to a certain extent your quality soul nights, the ones that make you want to travel not your average night in the back room of the dog and duck or the local flea pit.

Plenty for sale on the internet, £5/£10. Little bit more if there is some demand. Job lot, not seen tne lot for sale before.

Don’t remember either of those playing it but could be wrong. Butch, his Lancaster Johnson cover up. Andy Dyson & Ginger too. -
But one a week, surely over kill? Surely onlyna handful from Europe? I’ve seen the odd videos, some had very healthy numbers, Liverpool for instance, others not so healthy looking A couple of years ago I went through the calendar, there was two a month then, must be a lot more crowded now.

I also think weekenders are having a major say..... since the beginning of June we have had weekenders at.... Cleethorpes, Skegness, Blackpool, Bridlington, Liverpool, St Ives, Whitby & Manchester. EIGHT in six weeks. The last three all on the same weekend, barmy. There are still more to come this summer plus all the European ones that are now popular with Brits

27 events within 30 miles of Sheffield this weekend....the scene is doing its very best to fcuk itself up. Selfish promoters and selfish so called Djs who have nothing to offer that isn’t already there. They don’t care about any potential damage they may be doing to the scene, the bigger picture isn’t a worry for them. There is only a finite number of people to go round with less and less travelling or not even bothering much these days.
