  1. What’s unbelievable is some of the comments on here. Yes it is all about the music and it is what attracted us to the scene (plus our divvy mates weren’t there) but that was all based on rare original records, and not so rare. Yes the odd emi etc was played to push a newie or a record stuck with a collector that would at one time never have been heard but it was essentially originals. But today it is different. Loads of Djs with the biggies on original releases, there really is no need to book billy bootleg. If youncan’t do it right then f*** o** and leave it to those that can. If you insist then be a good promoter and tell people paying their hard earned that you are playing bootlegs at your event. The punter then has a choice.
  2. Laughable comment innit, they are second hand records. The artists have had more recognition because of this scene, they got none in the country and zero sales of their work.
  3. If you wanna be a fake Dj and a fake promoter just let everyone know so they can make a choice of who and what they wish to support. And Julian name and shame so we can avoid
  4. Its on an Lp too.
  5. Every possibility! There is similarities although I’m listening on ipad.
  6. Didn’t Soul Bowl get quantity and therefore Richard getting it to aid future sales?
  7. It was with the Platters, it was on that BBC show about disc too

  10. He's a regular on FB in the sales groups too
  11. They did much of the circuit up north at the time, Lifeline, Soultown etc....they weee very much into it too
  12. There was a few of them who used to come to Sheridans, yes one was out of one of the soaps. Car mechanic in Corrie used to go to the odd benue too, Tyrone?
  13. He was in the play wasn’t he, Once Upon A Time.....he used to go all over around that time, Sheridans as well.
  14. The Chicago stash? You mean the one John Anderson had? That was a distribution outfit wasn’t it who handled amongst ithers the Leaner Brothers labels. The Peaches release, wasn’t it around 1979 for Dave Raistrick?
  15. Thanks mate, yep will deffo have.
  16. I am looking for copies of the Echoes magazine from 1980 onwards specifically but interested in any. Anyone have any they wish to part with give me a shout.
  17. I don't think there is any argument about the release date of the Peaches recording. As for Paree, people like Gregory Moore and others around at that time say Paree was the first, there isn't one discography or biography to counter the argument. As you say and others also the vocals certainly sound younger and not as professional as their other releases. As for the font, I get your argument but there is nothing to say that font wasn't used in 1966 either. Neither were the group a big hit despite reasonable sales locally so not sure why anyone would think to try and cash in with earlier recordings? Hopefully will get some answers from the bassist.
  18. I have just asked the guy who played bass with the Admirations and who says he wrote "I Want To Be Free" a couple of questions, hopefully he will get back to me.
  19. Photo of the Admirations, taken with Herb Kent, WVON Dj, wielding the sword on Sherman Myles neck. This was a promotional photo when the group had just come out with "Wait Till I Get to Know You."
  20. I was talking to some notable Chicago folk, Robert Pruter being one (it was he who gave me the photo of the group I posted at some point) and all say the Paree release was the Admirations debut 45. I've no reason to doubt them despite theories over fonts. Then the Peaches release of which no one can say with any certainty which release came first, my feeling it was The Aspirations first, maybe a change of attitude after the failure of the Paree release? Then back to a more familiar name, The Admirations?
  21. Definately a Latin influence but not something I would class as strictly Latin as it is aimed at a broader market. Same with many mentioned that have a Latin influence but not strictly Latin.
  22. On some recent presses, not just these bootlegs Ian Levine was involves with but ones like Don Gardner look a like reissue you can see a circular imprint on the label from the vinyl underneath....Don Gardner attached so you can see the circular effect on the label
  23. His vg is a uk ex. It is easily vg+.
  24. check the link atb the top of the page in Mikes post, all there. Photos aren't my best as was still messing with settings on new camera, ISO setting too high I think this is the link...
