  1. By far the best quality IMO
  2. I agree there are loads out there with everything to please just about everyone. I haven’t seen a proliferation of bootleg djs at the mainstream events. Yes they might exist locally but Ive yet to hear of any names all this wanting to play the classics, many unobtainable to the masses just goes to show it is not about the music but about cock waving and massaging an ego. If you can’t do it right go at it from another angle, use some imagination and dig a little deeper, 1000s of decent records out there fit for any Dj.
  3. As said there can be a delay as the label work comes first. Always come through though with the goods. Oh and as Kegsy says, play the Lp, put the money to better use.
  4. No thats Frank Wilson.
  5. The Dusty Wilson on Bronze and Zebra, his name is Eddie Wilson.
  6. One of them had a middle nickname, that I can remember
  7. I can’t remember there names, honestly. If I can find them I will, it was a couple of years ago on facebook. Maybe one of the West Midland lot can remind me and I’ll post the names! Same for anyone else.
  8. Who are these bootleg spinning djs? I’ve asked numerous times on various platfirms and got two names both West Midlands promoters/Djs. Many spout iff about them yet none have the balls to name the Djs or theboromoters that allow the playing of them. Nothing will change with this cohrt case. Ebay etc are full of them, the boit selkers/dealers haven’t sh*t themselves and go e into hiding, they bkatantly carry on. Ebay couldn’t give a fig, they make a fortune out of it. You can make and good guess by the figures given in the case.
  9. I would imagine those who own the rights didn’t receive any money. Not to say something wasn’t lodged with ASCSP or whoever. It is s popular trick to say they can’t trace the owners, pay a small fee and hope the rights owner doesn’t come forward. Sort of semi legit bootleg if you like as those doing them exploiting a loop hole inter system. Others are out of copyright too.
  10. Isn't the original black press a New York press. It also states that on 45cat. Gold or Bronze being Detroit press? The one in the above post looks like a recent press looking at the circles under the label. There is also a chance that the so-called legit looking copies seen, out of sight etc are also fake. If they are going to press fake originals they will also press fake recent issues, they do appear to be more credible than a boot.
  11. Studio creation or not they turned up at one of Kev Roberts USA trips. Thin k it was after the weekend when most had left.
  12. Not sure if she does any djing these days @ady croasdell might know better or one of the other London lot.
  13. Val Palmer top Dj, especially late 80s early 90s, 100 Club etc
  14. Bit of info in this obituary..... https://www.marchfh.com/obituaries/James-Sawyer/#!/Obituary
  15. Saw Karl not so long ago, Grumpy Soul. He was certainly top of his game then, he offered something different and it went down well on the dancefloor. Today I can’t think of a Dj since then who has come along with something to offer that isn't already there. The shouts I see and smoke blowing up someone’s arse is for those who play mainly oldies which lets be honest most of us can do. Of the youngsters, Calvin Lee Hughes and Sarah Jane do try to feature something not in yer top 500. Butch of course is still top of the tree for many although he is rarely heard in this country outside the 100 Club.
  16. Many do like a drink though and tere is rarely a problem with it. It isn’t very often I get the chance as I drive a lot. I do hate those who are drunk slobbering over people and you do see quite a bit of it these days from people old enough to know better and who clearly can't take their drink.
  17. People like a drink, I like a drink, given the choice of alcohol free event and one with a bar, then the alcohol free is going to lose out. its a myth to suggest that we didn’t drink BITD, we just filled our guts at a soul night before moving onto the nighters. Coach trips etc awash with ale.
  18. Motown covers many genres of music amongst its many labels and to me “Motown” is simply used as a generic term for its output and not a genre. Yes there is formula for a lot of its output (probably too formulaic and rehearsed as alluded to) but the genres cover pop, middle of the road, easy listening, R&B, soul, soft rock and so on. Northern Soul isn’t a genre either, it is a scene that adopts records from many genres, labels artists etc, Motown included.
  19. I’ve seen plenty of quality venues disappear at the expense of what I condider to be inferior events. Neither do I see the point of a choice between two venues in one town, surely one packed atmospheric venue is better than two half full devoid of atmosphere? I also find even if you have a choice you don’t have a choice because the music policy is invariably the same, pretty pointless IMO.
  20. I think everyone can distinguish between a large event like an oddfellows all dayer and a two bob local event as you put it. But the opening post mentioned 11 two bob local events, there was no oddfellows alldayer in the area. So there is a problem wouldn’t you not agree. Not only is it locally a problem but nationally too. Three weekenders this weekend, two within an hour or so of each other, three allnighters, two in the west midlands and all three within an hour/ hour and half. Other large soul nights as well. Factor in all the two bob local nights as well of which there was dozens then its not rocket science to see that the scene will suffer or parts of it will suffer because of this over supply. There is a complete lack of respect from many towards others, with so many clashing with established long running events. Events that also gave many their break, from this you would expect a little loyalty or support in return but it is rarely returned. Every week we are seeing more events added to the calendar, not just yer two bob local nights but all-nighters as well. So it isn’t a case of a choice between a two bob promotion or one with some money behind it as there is more often than not an over supply of yer more professional promotions.
  21. It wasn’t that long ago that the main allnighter venues were working together and even had a joint flyer, six of us I think.
  22. I’ve been called many things by some on this scene but never a hero however I’m afraid that chalky is the other version, Hitsville Chalky, so you will have to wait a little longer I’m afraid, sorry.
  23. Little too much? It’s fcuking stupid. Promoters need to their heads banging together.
  24. But isn’t the promoter you played for alos part of the problem? Maybe he or she is one of those exacerbating the situation, maybe the other 11 have been going longer, have a set up as good or better. I do agree it is a problem, choice isn’t always better, it just splits the crowd. Too many Djs who have nothing to offer that isn’t already on offer, too mnaybselfish promoters who want there 5 minutes of fame or an ego massaging. Why people are no longer happy to just attend as a punter is beyond me, promoting and Djing isn’t worh the hassle today From what I have been reading, venues do seem to be on the decline, even major large venues are seeing a drop in numbers but promoters and wannabe Djs do not care about the bigger picture, namely the scene and the health of the scene. A healthy scene with healthy attendances should be the sole aim, not setting up another needless event in an already over crowded calendar.
  25. She is married to Greg Perry, Edna Wright another name of hers.
