  1. Someone stuck a label on it
  2. Dean Anderson and Gez are joined for the Sound of Soul Radio Show on the 21st February 2019 by Coventry's Tim Fletcher. Coming from Coventry Tim has been around the Soul and Mod scene for more years than he would like to admit. An avid collector of black music Tim's tastes span across several genres including the ska, early reggae and rocksteady music of the original Mods and Rude boys of the days.
  3. The Soul Brothers Six had been around four years when they recorded their first disc. The one who apparently bailed must have done almost immediately so by the time they were recording they were six and had been for a while. I will check the autobiography of John Ellison to be sure. I seem to remember they were only 5 when he joined but will check. I still can't see any logic as to why they would record as Johnny & The Soul Brothers when they had already been a popular club act and were just starting to record. Unless it was released without their knowledge maybe? If indeed it was them. Will have a listen to sound files over the weekend.
  4. Jobete probably leased the song to Jesse, it makes the company money that wouldn’t otherwise be made Imguess. Many jobete songs on small labels as you well know.
  5. Some Kind Of Wonderful cut in Philly too at Virtue.
  6. But they weren’t known as JE & The Soul Brothers Six, that would make 7 of them for a start. They were the Soul Brothers Six on Fine as the label states, not as the youtube video states.
  7. The music publishing is Cora Lee (as it is on several of the releases). There is an earlier record on the label by Johnny C’Or? Maybe?
  8. Looking at the label, going with what 45cat says it is 1967 or later. The Soul Brothers Six were well established by then, doing well and I think John Ellison had left Rochester by then.
  9. Its John Ellison not Jimmy but there is no mention of Johnny and the Brothers of Soul, either side nor the label in John Ellison’s autobiography.
  10. Not sure, think Dave was first I heard play it? I agree I am a firm believer in credit where credit is due but to give someone credit when it isn’t due diesn’t sit right. Many Djs have played records they didn’t discover but we dont heap praise on them.
  11. Butch then Arthur
  12. Thought it was Dave Rippoles?
  13. Some of Richard's shows from the 90s on my mix cloud page. I don't really remember any internet radio in the 90s? KTF Chat group was the main thing before Soul Source....oh and the start of eBay.
  14. Someone is writing a book, they have been in touch with in the near past about it.
  15. What is he playing
  16. I have some recordings on my mix cloud site, one I put up yesterday. Richard Searling chatting to Swamp Dogg Jerry Williams in 1998 on his visit to these shores alongside Dave Godin. Eddie Hubbard supplied the tape recorded by John Kerr of Shrewsbury. The other is Pete Lawson interviewing/chatting to Dave. This formed the basis of the articles in Pete's magazine the Gospel According to Dave Godin.
  17. Canal Tavern was a soul music venue, the place credited as the birth of crossover or at least the term although it was widely played across the country. Never a bad night there first under Gary Welsh and Steve Kilgour and later Rod Dearlove.
  18. The 90s was the beginning of the death of the newies scene we had in the 80s IMO beginning with Keele. Keele was always a good night with a great record bar but it was oldies and more would follow. The 80s just about every allnighter was still newies influenced. By the end if the 90s the newies scene was in a poor way and oldies ruled the roost. Thats not to say it was dead altogether, we still had Bradford, 100 Club, Winsford, Northern Cowboys, Wilton etc. Many a great time. Yarmouth then Cleethorpes were fantastic weekends The onset of the 90s was definately a turning point though and heavily influenced by the returnees unwilliing to listen to something new and promoters unwilling to be adventurous.
  19. Tent Room with radio djs? Tent room was the sort of crossover tent at Fleetwood.
  20. Last two shows for you listening pleasure. Alan "Kitch" Kitchener a week ago with two hours of album tracks. This week Jim "Beat Route" Cessford
  21. There was some Doré reissued in the late 80s or was it 90s, probably one of those.
  22. I always assume till late is the opposite, midnight, 1am.
  23. It used to be about £75 give or take. Heard what it went for, barmy. Used to spin it late 80s, good record that was never as big as it maybe should have been during my time.
  24. I did a two hour show at Christmas
  25. You should look out for the Grace Love lp, some far better tracks on it than Fire.
