  1. Not a great start to the 20s with news on social media about the passing of Lorraine Chandler. Lorraine having toured here was very approachable and engaging with her fans. Was for a time a very active member of Soul Source. R.I.P. Lorraine and thank you for the music.
  2. Back in 2004/5 when Paul was breaking this, you knew who was playing what. There wasn’t that many nighters we didn’t all attend, nor soul nights. Lifeline had just started the year or so prior and the nighter scene wasn’t in great shape. The main nighters were all at Sheridans, Kings Hall. Everyone who was active knew who was playing what. It wasn’t the numerous factions we have now.
  3. I would imagine the BBC had everything or just about everything that saw a UK release, at least up to the demo stage and also many that didn't even get that far.
  4. according to figures recently the BBC Archives still has a massive collection of vinyl and CDs. There is little doubt it will have been pilfered from time to time or records getting lost whilst out with the various shows using them.
  5. Didn't every BBC station have a record library? Manchester, Sheffield etc etc. Wasn't there a haul in Manchester of old BBC stock?
  6. you need to take summat for that
  7. Phil Swern I think owns the company that provides the BBC's digital services. I listened to an interview once when BBC was beginning to think about digitising and he said he already had them all digitised. He has every top 40 record since the charts began apparently. https://www.longlivevinyl.net/phil-collector-swern-interview/
  8. Hamitton Movement, big for 5 or 6 years? You can tell some of these never go anywhere.
  9. Sadly far too many are rewriting history. I'm forever correcting people, simply as I like to see credit where credit is deserved
  10. Not saying the Lp is dodgy but Juno have sold bootlegs before.
  11. couldn't find the label on company check
  12. I have my doubts about any of them being legit, no credits, no rights reserved or license details, probably some copyright infringement with the logo.
  13. Last night's show featuring myself...
  14. I'm guesting on Dean's show tonight. If you have nowt better to do hopefully you can tune in. Will be spinning few releases from this year as well as some other great soul music. Listen live - locally on 107.8FM, on DAB, or on the Radio Newark website https://www.radionewark.co.uk/radioplayer/choose-your-player/ Also available using the TuneIn app on your mobile or the TuneIn website https://tunein.com/radio/Radio-Newark-s193516/ www.radionewark.co.uk
  15. https://www.smokeyrobinson.com/contact/
  16. Merry Christmas Mike and all members of Soul Source and all the best for 2020.
  17. Martha Starr is the 45 release of Sweet temptation.
  18. Two better scans of the first release...
  19. Probably a carver. There is probably a carver out there of just about every record, most of the sellers on ebay who offer boots are carvers and some do them to order. I haven't seen a boot of Ward Burton, a boot as in a 300 count press etc.
  20. I haven't read the links yet so not sure where the connection to Bill Smith comes from? Obviously Sweet Temptation/If'N are his records but the rest all appear to have no connection. Panther owned by Willie Hammond. The only other Greenville connection I can think of with major Bill is Martha Starr who came from the town.
  21. There are 6 releases listed in R&B Indies. 1. Ward Burton & Music Men Inc - Salty Dog If'N 2. Willie Hammond - The One Who Really Loves You. (PAN 2-A) Lots More Fish In The Sea (PAN 2-B) 3. The Bojax - Hippie time Go Ahead & Go 1968 4. The Bojax - Don't Look Back Fast Life 5. The Bojax - So Glad I've Enjoyed As Much Of You As I Can 6. Ward Burton - Sweet Temptation (PAN-5A If'N (PAN-5B) Then of course... 2. Ronny Lowe & The Dominoes - The One Who Really Loves You (PAN-2A) Too Many Fish In The Sea (PAN-2B) To complicate matters there is this release not listed in R&B Indies 4331 The Invisible Burgundy Bullfrog - Cry Me A River (PRP 8171) Batman Rides Again (PRP 8172) Obviously connected as the font is the same and they share the same music publisher, Rainy Day Music.
  22. Ward Burton one is 66/7 or 67/8. The other 69.
  23. According to R&B Indies Ward Burton Panther out of Greenville, SC whilst the Reggie Sadler Panther is Hickory, NC. They may well be linked somehow though.
  24. My apologies Julian if we are, The nickname threw me as he the John I posted was also nicknamed batman in the replies?
