  1. I was led to believe and I'm sure the manager of the pressing plant when interviewed said one copy to Motown for their files, one copy to Jobete for their files. Gordy could well have had a copy of every thing he cu to vinyl? I would if I owned a label. There was a rumour Gordy bought the collection of Reg Bartlette, allegedly the most comprehensive collection there is, and there was allegedly a copy in that. All rumours and guessing I suppose.
  2. Why would it? It has been used all over TV. You seem to hear it more commercially than you do at a venue.
  3. Same guy, he lived in hull. I think he split from his missus for whom he bought the record.
  4. One in Scunthorpe, one in Todmorden, test press in Detroit. File copies probably in Jobete or Motown. No more known about although Gordy is rumoured to have one.
  5. Heard the sad news yesterday Most nighter goers will have been greeted by Billy at some time. My deepest sympathies to Billy’s family and friends. R.I.P Billy.
  6. I don’t know of an across the board night. Many claim it but in reality none are. Like you say the scene is just to diverse now for it to ever work in its broadest sense. But as an oldie or a newie, as it used to be then you can narrow it down. But I would hazard a guess that those that want oldies don’t want the newies and vice versa. In other words it will never work, even the new release most play are retro in sound and not what many would term modern soul.
  7. So in the hours that matter it isn’t across the board? Sweet and deep, 60s and 70s I guess? Crossover has always sat alongside the northern, long before it was crossover and beside most of it is well trodden 70s now. Where is the modern, new releases? It is impossible to please the whole club with a truly across the board set and you will simply end up with a divided room. A one room paradise like we had late 70s and throughout the 80s will not work today. Yes some want it too but there isn’t enough to fill a small venue.
  8. Is there a venue that plays truly across the board, is there a Dj? Most play mainly northern, bit of funky stuff and a bit of northern sounding 2000s release and they think they are across the board. the scope is too wide now to cater for everyone.
  9. Yes the image is Paris but the lyrics are from many 45s. They really do look fantastic and a great addition to any record room.
  10. I have to say these are fantastic, they really do look the biz when framed on your wall. i have one and forever going over to read a line, try and guess the song. Brilliant piece of art. You will not be disappointed. here is mine....
  11. Vast majority are divs, the kinda folk we went to nighters to get away from. Its a total parody of a once great scene and about as far removed from the proper scene as you can get.
  12. I would have thought data protection comes into force on any device including phones. But I’m not surprised they banned videoing though after the embarrassing shambles of the “world dance championships” at the last event. I don’t normally get involved, just watch and shake my head but the last one has to be some of the worst dancing I’ve ever seen.
  13. The last one sold was more than that if I remember rightly
  14. Things are looking up, reply from Eric....
  15. I've sent them an email, hopefully get an answer
  16. this is what was sent through the southern soul group...
  17. Some were saying on southern soul mailing list they got sound files after asking at Secret Stash, was shown the track listings other day. Will see if I can find them. Somehow doubt we will see this, same reasons/ excuses trotted out, poor masters, licensing issues when I thought they had the rights to them all?
  18. The rarer Wigan patches, the early ones regularly fetch upwards £80. The more common ones are often on ebay £30/40. This as Steve says is probably somewhere in the middle with regards to how often you see it for sale.
  19. I am not gloating but yes I do believe there should be just one weekender in one town on the same weekend. Its about morals and showing some respect something Russ doesn’t do. Just like he put a nighter in in Wigan on the same night as an established nighter recently.
  20. £60 a few years ago for a minter
  21. God hates tossers who deliberately clash with another long standing event
  22. Good news for the original Skeggy Weekender then
