Then Came Heartbreak - The Jive Five - United Artists Not listed in JM's price guide, got this fairly cheap off eBay and have heard it played out once at Prestatyn a couple of years ago. Superb tune.

Love You Like You Never Been Loved - The Falcons - Big Wheel The B side to Good Good Feeling, evidently its getting plays? Very wise.

So, I'm wasting my day off waiting for an engineer to come and fix my brand new glasswasher which worked for a whole 2 days . I thought I'd share some mid-tempo stuff which I recorded the other day. My missus has cleverly discarded the track list that I wrote out whilst recording them on to mini disc so I'll have to trust my dimming memory. Sounds to follow.

Just playing some tunes and noticed that on my copy of Tommy Neal - Goin' To A Happening - Palmer 5024 the b side is a fairly dull instrumental going by the name of Tomboy. JM's guide doesn't list the Palmer label version and shows the b to the Pameline and Vault label versions as Te-Ta (or versions of this title). 2 questions: firstly, is Tomboy the same as Te-Ta? Secondly is there a vocal to Tomboy? Right, off to get measured for my anorak.

How wierd is this!! I was putting together a CD of mid-tempo stuff and reached for a box of recordable CD's and pulled out a These Old Shoes Anniversary CD from 2002. We used to get every guest DJ from the year to give us 2 tracks plus some from ourselves, then I'd spend christmas putting the CD's together to give away at the january anniversary do. The tracklist looks a bit dated now but at the time some of these were just starting to get plays. (Still looking for the Johnny DeVigne). Anyway, there are 9 of these things that I need to find a home for, first come first served, either send me a CD with tracklist of interesting stuff or 1.50 to cover P&P. Email me at ptp@just7.co.uk to check availability. here's the tracklist: Esther Phillips - Nobody But You - Jo Wallace Uniques featuring Joe Stampley - Not Too Long Ago - Barry James The Arabians - (Please) Take a Chance On Me - Paul T-P Amanda love - You Keep Calling Me By Her name - Marco Jackie Wilson - Lonely Life - Simon Bridger Marie Knight - To Be Loved By You - Alan H Johnny De'Vigne - I Smell Trouble - Ady Lupton Ozz & The Sperlings - Can You Qualify - Marco Santucci Benny Latimore - Girl I've Got New For You - Alan H Gladys Tyler - A Little Bitty Girl - Martin Thomson Marjorie Black - One More Hurt - Marco Mabel King - Go Back Home Young Fella - Martin Thomson The Fabulous Denos - I've Enjoyed Being Loved By You - Simon Bridger The Tymes - What Would I Do - Peter Jay HB Barnum - ]It Hurts Too Much To Cry - Barry James The Squires - Don't Accuse Me - Peter Jay Patti & The Emblems - It's The Little Things - Ady Lupton Star Treks - Gonna need magic - Roger Stewart Brenda & The Tabulations - That's In The Past - Soulful Cris Shawn Robinson - Find Love Right Now - Soulful Cris Barbara Mason - You Better Stop It - Marco Santucci Oliver Bush - I'll Make It Up To You - Paul T-P Mandrill - Too Late - Adam Buchanen Sunday - Ain't Got No Problems - Jo Wallace Brown Sugar - The Game Is Over - Adam Buchanen Philharmonics - I Need Your Love - Roger Stewart The Dells - Make Sure - These Old Shoes Here's the cover:

Updated & sound files added (not from the actual records) Thanks Paul

I must say that there is nothing worse than someone coming up to the decks to check your records. I've had it a few times and it really pisses me off. They ask you what the other side is or some such bollox in a less than thinly veiled hint that you are playing a boot. It has happened the most with Yvonne Baker - You Didn't Say a Word (yes I do play it). I try to get in first with "It's Yvonne Baker - Have you heard it before? (results in glares) Would you like to have a look at it?" if yes then I usually just laugh at them. cnuts Customer service - its my reason for living

They did have some nice UK Motown LP's (Which I collect ) but they were always top price. I bought a few of the MFP stuff from there on a couple of visits too. What do they mean by "The Internet isn't our style" ? - that's a bit pompous to be honest. Bet they slowly put the stock on eBay.
-
I found that Special delivery stayed the same price but recorded and normal dropped slightly with the new size charges. Using standard sized record mailers. Although I did have a "discussion" in a nearby post office when the woman behind the counter tried to charge me about a quid extra because the package "wouldn't go through the size hole", it clearly did and I pointed this out to her, she said "but you have to push it", I said well if you get it from the other side you can pull it ..... it still fits through". I took it to another post office the next day.

Female Record Collector's ... How Many Are There Really
paultp replied to Sanquine's topic in All About the SOUL
I can also let everyone know that you won't sell records from your sales box either . The number of times I've picked three or four out just to be told "they're not for sale!" ... I've also learnt not to tell you about records on eBay after you outbid me for that Shep - Fool to Fool/I'm Sitting In after I told you about it even tho you had a copy. Don't come between a woman and her records! -
After a strange intro that is a really fine piece of mid tempo. Thanks Nice label too.
-
So many good records, why is it that when you hear something fantastic for the first time it is quite often acompanied by the knowledge that you don't have enough money for it? This seems to coincide with Mr Manships auctions actually; last time it was The Parisians, This time its the Chico Lamarr How good is this record? Awesome !!! Time for sleeps ....... anticipating a hangover as well. Cheers Paul
-
IMHO you should do both; a CD with all the tracks and also 45's. BTW I just listed to the mix from your first post and thought the tracks were great, looking forward to the finished articles. All the best. Paul
-
I'll give you 43 dollars for the Bobby Long. Cheers Paul

It Might As Well Rain Until September was a massive hit wasn't it? Covered by numerous artists as well. Worse examples of what? Records? Or records listed as Nothern Soul that are obviously not? It doesn't matter if it is a perfectly crafted record by incredibly talented songwriters, why is it listed as Northern Soul?
-
I know its a recurring topic but this is the latest I've seen: https://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-Northern-Soul-Car...1QQcmdZViewItem I actually hope someone tells me (truthfully) that the b-side is getting plays or was big for Alfie Noakes etc The worst I've ever seen was some dolt listing (seriously) The Goodees - Black Pudding Bertha (The Queen of Northern Soul) Perhaps this could be a perpetual thread for similar instances?
-
Cheers for that Pete, lovely tune. I played it down These Old Shoes once and someone booed FFS! So I stopped the record, told them off and recued it to play again from the start

Is this a Gerald Ratner moment?
