Pm'd everyone who offered me one This is the first time one of my wants on here is actually available, hopefully I can get something sorted out for one of these. Thanks
-
I remember when John Weston guested at These Old Shoes and he stayed round my house, I had a rummage through his play box and this is one that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It was going to go on my wants list until he told me how much and how rare it was Hadn't heard the new sounds version before but the megatone one shades it for me, though possibly its the other way round for the other track. All great tunes anyway.

You and others might not trust him but I thought "dishonest" was a bit strong and so posted my experience of dealing with him in order to show that he does send out records that he has sold, at least he did in my case. I thought he was maybe a bit flaky but didn't think he was dishonest, KarlM's post regarding ebay backs up the flaky theory IMHO. To be perfectly honest Chalky, unless you've had a problem with him yourself, you're just commenting on someone elses comment ... some would call it gossip. I'm not defending him, and I'm not having a pop at you either, I just think he should be allowed to explain himself before we put the noose round his neck and slap the horse.

I bought a copy of The Falcons off Ian on here last year, it took a while to turn up but it was as described and he kept in communication with me when I chased it up. I appreciate that some people might have had a bad experience but perhaps "dishonest" is maybe a bit strong as a first step? Hopefully he'll take the opportunity to defend himself. I don't know the guy personally but just thought I'd post that my experience of dealing with him was pretty positive. Cheers Paul

How very odd I suspect this will end with a relisting. Surely this is the best way to own it? Mind you I've never been interested in collecting British.
-
Hi all, Has anyone got a copy of: The Steelers - Just Beginning To Love You - Crash At a good price please, quite happy to trade stuff for it if you like. Cheers Paul

I think the future of the scene will be where ever the scene goes that works and attracts the people who pay on the door. The scene changes itself because it is made up of an extremely diverse set of people from all walks of life. Just reading many of the threads on Soul-Source illustrates that at the moment the scene is pulling a number of different ways, probably as it has always done, with people agreeing, disagreeing, saying modern is the thing, 60's newies, Soulful House, R&B, Only Oldies please, etc etc. Venues with 2, 3 or more rooms segregating the various perceived genres, whilst other venues have one room where anything can be played. The Northern Soul scene of the 70's was a clearly identifiable scene whereas today it probably isn't, even then arguments raged about what should/shouldn't be played. What's good is that there are so many enthusiastic people who want to play and hear and possibly dance to the music. People will go where they can hear what they want to hear and do what they want to do, if what is played (and what happens) interests a younger crowd then they will come too, but you will never actively "get younger people interested" they will make the choice themselves (the cocky little sods) or peer pressure will make it for them. I don't think we should try and predict the future of the scene cos the only certainty is that everyone is getting older (and that includes the twenty-somethings ...... yes I'm afraid it does) and so change is inevitable. Personally, I've jumped on and am still enjoying the ride so I'll try and continue for as long as I can whichever way it goes. I might even try and influence the direction at some point. I might want to wear my bowling shirt again too cos it's really cool and I only bought it 5 years ago. Sorry, I'm rambling now. 49 going on 20.

There has got to be loads of them because every major dealer seems to have had one or two on their lists over the last few months, there are a dozen on popsike https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php...p;x=11&y=11 (one at 1200 dollars - ouch!) and currently 2 on ebay. All are mint or never played. With Danny Moore now selling at around 50/60 what price the clara hardy? I wouldn't mind one actually, good tune, as is Danny Moore.

Hi, Did you get sorted with this? If not, I found one in one of my boxes: Barbara Carr - Don't Knock Love/Shake Your Head - Chess 1985 - Ex Yours for 15 plus postage. Cheers Paul

Just to add to the confusion: From the 3rd edition of John Manship's bootleg guide: "Original was released on California label Soul Clock. The first release has a Gold label with Red lettering. The more common 2nd press (to meet demand) was on the regular green design label. Both are the originals the Gold label one being the rarer of the two. The Demand label was a UK pressed bootleg. " From his web site: This : https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/52572/FULLER+BROTHERS describes this copy: (which I have a copy of) I assume this is the green label one described by John as a second release, but original. I presume Pete is saying that a Gold and red version of this label design would be a snide. (Pete?) Whereas this: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/52570/FULLER+BROTHERS describes this copy: Which I presume is the first release described by John.

Is it just me or does the vocal sound like Roland Gift? (Fine Young Cannibals)? I've never heard this before but I'm sure it would sound good in a venue. It does sound a bit as if it has been mixed though Maybe I'll have another listen.

I've just looked at the Arthur Prysock records and found that they are not two copies of Old Town 1000 which I asked for but 1 copy of Old Town 1000 and 1 copy of Old Town 1001 (bah!) So I only have one copy for sale of "All I Need Is You Tonight" and also 1 copy of the following: Arthur Prysock - I Wantcha Baby - Old Town 1001 - M- 15 Another good 70's tune from Arthur Thanks Paul

Right, here's a scan of my copy. It looks like someone has covered the blacked out promo markings with tippex ( ) cos the other side is only blacked out. There are only two run out grooves in the dead wax, the dead wax is 7mm at its thinnest point and 9 mm at its thickest, also there is MM 1023-1 scratched in the dead wax between the play area and just after the point where the two run out grooves meet. Please tell me its an original.
-
OK then, just reduced the prices on these
-
I can't find the previos topic on this but a lot of people said they had never seen a legit demo without the promo markings crossed out, so now that it has finnished here is one which looks legit anyway: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1 And I still am not 100% on my copy (Mods please feel free to merge the topics)

BTW the cutting is from The Telegraph 12th Feb, probably not helpful info but there you go. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtm...12/sfnbec12.xml

Nick, You have my deepest sympathy here, that is quite the maddest and saddest thing I have ever heard of, without doubt you should go to the Police. Without wishing to stir the sh*t in any way, the "Threatening letter" mentions you were the second person to look at the records, maybe you should find out who was the first? (Just a suggestion not an accusation before anyone kicks off). How anyone could sit down and pen such a disgusting missive is beyond me though. All the best Paul

Cheers Gene (and everyone else) tho you told me at the time I bought it that I'd overpaid for the blue Mala promo I'll be selling the Terrific one on my next list anyway.
-
Yeah, I've had that one before too "Ooops I don't seem to have the record anymore, sorry" normally when you win a record at below its current selling price. The last time was from a well known UK "dealer".

So on Tuesday I went up to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough to have my annual pacemaker check. They collect all the data from it for the last year and also check the remaining battery lifespan. They are telling me that everything is OK when they say: "just a minute, look at this .... a 16 to 20 second period of extremely high heart rate" This evidently caused the pacing thingy to slow my heart rate, which it has never done before, it is fitted to keep my heart from slowing down. "When was it?" I ask .. "12.04 am on the 7th January this year" "Mmmm.. err... that will be York Soul club then"
-
Mr Manship lists the Terrific copy at 150 which is a bit steep IMHO, I sold my last one for 60 or 70, mind you that was about 4 years ago. The 3rd edition price guide doesn't list the blue Mala copy. Does anyone know the current values? Also I've always thought Mala issue were blue and promos were yellow, is there anything else on a blue Mala label that is a promo?
