Strange thing to do really, go on strike when the government are closing post offices and encouraging the deregulation of postal services. Fairly soon there will be viable alternative postal services which probably won't be as efficient but will be cheaper to run, probably be more expensive for the customer too. Similar thing happened to bus services; it was a bit chaotic at first but settled down eventually. Are posties striking themselves out of jobs? It's happened to other industries/business sectors.

Is it really!? I've got an issue somewhere that I bought off shifty about 7 years ago for 40 I think, might be in my play box actually but my records are in storage so i can't check. Good tune! Demo booted, issue not - that's what I've been told anyway..
-
In the last year or so I've sold an issue and a demo, 150 for the issue and 125 for the demo. Probably the wrong way round but that's what I got for them if my memory serves me right, which it generally doesn't. I reckon that if you get over 125 at the mo you will be doing well.

I dragged my missus down to the 100 for the anniversary once, told her she would love it but she pretended not to. Anyway we each got a copy of "When The Boy That You Love" which was nice, but I could have had a few more as there were people leaving them lying around as they left This year's is nice, both good tunes, wish I could have got along. Cheers Paul

Has someone seen it or did they pm you? It's just that, as I understand it, the demo's are on Lendo but the issues are on Lando. There is also a recent second issue on Lando but the label is different to the original Lando issue. If my records weren't packed away I'd put up a scan of the Lando issue and second issue. Cheers Paul

I was reading through this thread and was about to diagree with Jo when thankfully I read this. Awesome play list! I remember you playing the Tokays for me and also almost every DJ and/or record collector in the London area cramming in the place and spending your set drooling Would love a copy of the vid if you ever have time to do a copy P.S. I still have hair

An interesting reality check is to take one of the big dealers list and show it to people not involved in the scene.

There's a mint WD on JM's auction at the mo, currently 332 with 16 days to go Think the red issue is rarer but that's just a guess.
-
It did, I thought it would go to about 700-800 so never bothered bidding I've only seen the Parisians for sale twice recently; both on JM's auction and both went for around 700 I actually like the Parisians better as it seems a bit more raw (rawer?) but would settle for either if I had the moola

This is what the problem is, people with only one aim regarding the scene: to make money. Nobody wants to lose money promoting events and putting artists on etc but most people's main motivation is to have a successful event and a bit of fun or whatever, if they make money too it is the cream on the top. The things Shane mentions are all purely money making schemes of one sort or another and sadly they probably all will make money as there seems to be a lot of gullible people about. The view from my armchair of the scene is one of bickering and squabbling with nostalgia and profit being to the fore. I hope this isn't a correct view and maybe I'll feel better tomorrow. I'm packing my records up at the moment as I'm moving in about a week, I probably won't be seeing them for a month or so for various reasons. I hope that in a couple of months time I have the enthusiasm and energy to get out and about again but at the back of my mind I have the feeling that I've been out of it too long, my records will stay packed for some time and will only surface to go on eBay as other things take my interest. Got to agree with Shane - "All time Low"

Like anything and everything really but the stuff that really gets the hairs on the back of my neck standing up is male voice mid-tempo. Some examples: Jimmy Soul Clarke - I'll be your Champion Freddie Houston - If I Had Known (listening whilst typing and still after a copy) Volumes - Same Old Feeling Compliments - Beware Beware Players - Why Did I Lie Emmanuel Laskey - Sweet Lies etc etc
-
The last few things I played at about 2 am this morning were: Rufus Wonder - Under The Moon (finally got one ) Claude Baby Huey - Drifting ( After playing I felt better about the £16.55 customs charge) Garland Green - Angel Baby Tommie Young - Hit & Run Lover Houston Outlaws - Ain't No Tellin Have to pack up my records soon as I'm finally moving so may have another play tomorrow. Cheers Paul

Well I just had a call from Ian and he said that he thought it was wonderful that everyone was discussing him again as that hasn't happened for some time on the Northern Soul scene .. at least 3 months anyway. I advised him to join Soul Source then he could congratulate and thank everyone personally. I'm sure he's not barred is he?

Sorry is this typo supposed to be "hearsay" or "heresy"? I wasn't Levine bashing, I was just taking issue with your comment regarding him "valiantly" trying to get a niter going in London. As I said; he did get one going - I understand it was good (didn't go so this is just hearsay). I have met him and talked to him though I didn't get much opportunity to speak if I remember correctly. If I could be bothered I'd boot up my old laptop which, I'm fairly sure, still holds the digests from IL's "Advanced Northern Soul" list (another piss-take) where he slagged off the other clubs in London, where he slagged off his fellow promoters, where he asked for witnesses to the allleged punching so he could prosecute the alleged attacker. When I said "as I understand it" I did so because I don't want to invite similar action. Are you saying he didn't say all the other London clubs were crap? Are you saying he didn't fall out with his fellow promoters and stop being involved in The Rocket? Are you saying he didn't cut a couple of tracks and pass them off as newly discovered 60's records? Are you saying he didn't sell one for a high price to a well known DJ? Are you saying he didn't get punched for doing so? Are you saying this LP/CD is a serious musical outing not a quickly knocked up piece of rubbish with a title designed to annoy the majority of people on the NS scene? I have to concur that I really can't be sure if he is pissing himself laughing, so that probably is heresy .... sorry; hearsay. Cheers Paul
-
Please, not this one again I thought he did get an all-nighter going? Loads of people went too, most said it was really good. Granted, in the process of "valiantly" trying, he delighted in winding up everyone who was attending or running a club in London at the time by saying they were all crap and played crap music. As I understand it he then fell out with his fellow promoters and flounced off to take the piss out of the Northern Soul scene in some other way. Releasing tailor mades dressed up as newly discovered 60's records wasn't it? Didn't he get punched by some well known DJ for flogging him a still warm from the presses copy of The Four Vandals - Wrong Side Of Town for about 600? Or is that just an NS myth. This LP is yet another piss take designed to poke fun and get some reaction rather than being a serious musical outing, if you listen to some of the other tracks of IL's on Youtube you'll hear they are far better produced and much more polished. I'll bet he is pissing himself laughing at everyone discussing the merits of this pile of crap. Cheers Paul

You're probably right, on looking again it seems that the person I thought was me got a tenner out of his pocket ..... in front of people! Jock Mitchell! (As John Weston would say) Mind you it disappeared pretty quick too, Helen thought I was doing some sort of conjuring trick
-
Ooo-err! That looks like me with Matt & Mike (our esteemed administrator) and someone else, my missus says it is anyway! Cheers Paul
-
I quite liked this Ebony Alleyne track, is it the one on the LP/CD? Must be getting old
-
I'm going to play them to my missus and see what she says cos she is absolutely infallible in identifying good records having not been involved in anything Northern Soul related since 1975. It is the most humbling thing having lashed out on some must have record and when it finally arrives and is flashed onto the deck to hear the words "That's nice dear" in that "not really" tone. More to follow ... Cheers Paul

Great picture! Epitomises the dome really, such a great mix of people: age groups, tribes, cultures etc. Not a chin stroker in sight

I think after taking the piss and offering them various obscure R&B tunes instead we eventually said "What about Ben E King?" "PROPER NORVERN!!!" he said On it went and these three guys jumped about like they were seventeen again, unfortunateley we still had tears running down our cheeks. Still it was marginally better than the guy who came up to the decks (somewhere?) whilst we were double decking and said to you "Can you ask the DJ .... " Don't think he got much further, I couldn't cue up for laughing At Dave Rivers South London do I was playing a solid 60's set to a reasonably full floor and someone came up and said could you play some modern? Obligingly moved into some 70's to the general displeasure of the floor and then realised these people were actually in the wrong venue and had really said "something more modern" DOH! I was asked for something by the doors at TOS and said "I can't cos the decks are over here". Mutual bemusement of punter and DJ. I could go on, pass me a sandbag.

There's a lovely version of Hey Girl on the same LP
