A lot of American sellers are boycotting eBay for a week in protest at the new higher final selling price fees. No one seems to have noticed, the eBay management have probably taken the opportunity to go on Holiday then it will be business as usual next week.

I haven't been collecting very long, probably less than 10 years now and my knowledge base is also only that old. Initially I bought off UK dealers, then looked on the internet ... WOW! In the late nineties you could get records for next to nothing on the net and each week another couple of US shops would list their inventory causing a flurry of activity. Anyone remember Ted's record room? I remember regularly buying lots of "10 Soul records" for 5 dollars off ebay, there was always one or two good ones in there. By the early noughties my knowledge had grown a bit and I found I could buy stuff off US ebay and sell it either out at gigs or on UK ebay for up to twice the amount I'd bought it for, all proceeds funding my play box. Over the last few years, both US record sellers and the UK buying market have become much more internet savvy with the result that US sellers research their records more and the initial prices are higher (at least $9.99 and usually $24.99) and they also know what top price records are worth. The UK buyers are buying from the US market directly so perceived UK prices are no longer relevant. Everyone now knows that records that were commonly 30-40 quid can be bought for 15 including postage on US ebay. Over the last couple of years the preference for big ticket records to DJ with has meant fewer people buy cheap records in the UK, so big ticket items hold or increase their value whereas cheap records have got cheaper. The result is that there isn't a profit to be made on cheap records, also rare records by definition are hard to find and you compete with people willing to pay top price to buy them - so again little profit to be had. The result of all this is that the market is constricting; casual buyers of cheap records are no longer buying, people like me who buy and sell to fund their collection are thus finding it more difficult so are not buying as much, dealers are competing directly with their market to purchase records so profits reduce. Just like the banking credit crunch - the available supply of money to the market is reducing. New money is needed from new markets, perhaps someone could introduce the Chinese to Northern Soul? Just don't tell them about the good stuff Edit: This illustrates my point: https://cgi.ebay.com/Northern-Soul-THE-SUGA...1QQcmdZViewItem I bought one of these last year and it took me 6 months to get my money back .... at 50 quid! (and mine was mint)

ASCOTS - JUST A FEW FEET FROM THE GUTTER - AMERICAN PLAYBOY - M- 300 sold sold sold I'd only just seen this and was wondering what I could sell to buy this - choon! Aaah well
-
Very nice indeed, does it cost a lot of pennies? And what about that translation
-
My german isn't that good anymore but the gist seemed to be "how amazing that someone plays records these days and look how much they cost" A full translation would be nice and also the details of the last track played
-
Thanks, just trying to work out which one to keep
-
Just "won" this on eBay and the seller says it is the first issue before polydor - is that correct? Thanks Paul
-
Flabbergasted! The seller has offered me a full refund including postage plus half the extra cost from customs/PO Makes a change from the normal nonsense. Anyway it is sold/on hold now. Thanks Paul

That is far too sensible and the recipe for an excellent night ... please stop posting immediately

Not any more, the guy that thought it was has now got one

And me! I'd be quick though cos motorcity music will have the lot if he finds them first, then there will be 4 a year for the next 6 years

Don & Juan - All That's Missing Is You - Terrific 5002 - VG+ (plays really well though) - Offers? The vinyl on this is really shiny and the label is clean too but there are some marks on it, the most serious of which are still not too bad but need mentioning; there are a couple of lateral scratches which can be heard if you listen and some strange circular marks that follow the grooves in a couple of places. Sound file and scan to follow. I've just got this through from the US and the seller overstated it's condition, they also put the full value on the uninsured package so I had to pay £12.52 customs and PO handling on top of what I'd already paid, which makes it not worth returning for a refund. I'm looking for offers over 50 quid, it books at 150 in JM's guide and I would have asked 100 mint. If you would rather have a mint copy then you can have my blue mala promo for 350 and I'll keep the Terrific copy Incidentally, the last one I had I sold to Soul Sam at Prestatyn some years ago for 70, he spent 5 minutes telling me how rubbish it was and knocking the price down then rave reviewed it about 3 weeks later saying he'd been after a copy for ages Cheers Paul

Too true Paid more than 125 for it over 5 years ago, should be at least 150-175, the other side is better too "Fool Don't Laugh"

Just about to start selling again on ebay and was rummaging around wondering if a shop would be useful when I noticed this gem: https://web.ebay.co.uk/businesshub/index.ph...nges_uk_general Essentially, from 20th Feb, they are reducing the listing fee by 33% but putting up the final value fee by .... 33%! They say the increase balances out the listing fee reduction ! To offset this they are introducing a discount scheme on the final selling fee % based on the seller ratings (not feedback). The discount for ordinary sellers is 20% but you need to be registered as a business on eBay and also do a volume of 100 items (or £750) per month on average for 3 months. At first look it seems that if you are a casual but successful seller on ebay you are about to lose even more of your money.

I never keep my duplicates long enough

It must be common, even I've got a copy

If only the market was as big as 15386. Perhaps the above is the reason that records don't sell anymore unless they are perceived to be worth over 500 quid or so. If the 15386 that are looked down on so much by the others pack it in then the last 200 can all go to the same venue and look at each other's records. 2008 - the year that record prices did the same as house and share prices

I wish that would come down in price like Ace Spectrum has, I kept missing it at 30 quid a few years ago then one week it was a ton and the next week 2 ton Where have they all gone? I still want one (for 30 though) Unfortunately I never saw Jeanette when it was cheap, so had to pay for it. Quite pleased though when Ace Spec went up in price as I had managed to get a good few on a trip to the states and thought I'd done well to knock em out at 20-40 quid (paid for jeanette ) Couldn't believe it when it hit a ton, that's just lazy. Anyone on here admit to paying a ton for Ace Spectrum? All three records are excellent though. Just a bit over played.

Does anyone know exactly how rare this is? I used to play it down These Old Shoes a few years ago and even put it as my pick on one of the anniversary CD's. I bought it off JM's site for 70 immediately after listening to the soundbite, I don't know anything but I thought it was deffo worth 70. I found another 3 copies over a period of 6 months (somewhat cheaper) and sold them on at profit . Then didn't see another for sale for ages, still hardly ever see it. When I moved to York and went to YSC both John and Tony had copies and were playing it in their sets and the feeling was that it was quite rare and possibly demo only? Can anyone fill in the details? Cheers Paul P.S. Sorry to hijack a wants thread, can post in "Look at" if needed.

I got a Jimmy Burns - I Tried from a seller in Chicago packed just the same as that, LP mailer with no stiffeners and the record taped in the middle, unfortunately it had cracked right across. I was mainly annoyed cos it was fairly cheap and I wanted to sell it on. I got my money back via PayPal but it was a right mess about. I claimed due to the item arrived damaged due to poor packaging, Paypal made me get a letter from a record dealer stating the packaging was inappropriate (thank you again to a very nice man in Leeds) and I had to send the record back tracked which was pricey. Ended up out of pocket but feeling better for it. I posted this saga up on here and the guy tipped up and said he didn't see what the problem was, he always sent singles out like this and had only had about 5% of them damaged ........
