  1. That would probaly make the dinkable ones slightly rarer then? Particularly on the rarer numbers?
  2. To be honest that's why I was asking, I bought a solid Bobby Patterson for just over 30 quid off eBay, love the tune and the UK seems cheaper than the US which is unusual, I then noticed that Pat Brady has a dinkable one on auction and it is 150 already! I don't know anything about UK issued soul as I have only collected US and not for very long. I thought I had some sort of re-issue but it appears not. The Olympics I have is dinkable now I've looked. All useful information and very interesting Cheers Paul
  3. Etiquette - now that's a nice looking label! Do you have a sound file? Ta Paul
  4. Many thanks. Are the dinkable ones somehow more attractive to collectors?
  5. Sorry if this is the wrong place or has been discussed but the search thingy keeps hanging my PC! Anyway can some knowledgeable soul tell me what the difference is between Action 45's that have the centre which can be dinked and those that don't? Is it an issue/re-issue thing? Thanks Paul
  6. Q. How much is a record worth? A. Whatever someone will pay for it. Q. What is the value of a record? A. Depends whether you own it or not and how much you want it. Q. What price do you sell a record for? A. Depends how much you need to sell it and why you are selling it. Q. How much should you pay for a record. A. Depends how much you want to buy it and how available it is. As a relatively amateur seller, buyer & collector of records I find it is desperately hard to accurately price a record from any point of view. Does anyone else believe in "dealers' disease" i.e. the feeling that if you sell a record you must have priced it too low? Cheers Paul
  7. As the sign at the back of the Signals bar in Troodos, Cyprus said: "Pay Up Or P*ss Off"
  8. If I didn't have one I'd buy this, absolute bargain. I use mine all the time and its a doddle to get sounds onto your PC. Cheers Paul
  9. Been adding bits all week when I get the chance, all the sold stuff removed too. https://www.paulsrecords.com Every listing has a soundfile and image. Thanks Paul
  10. True. Maybe I'm just jealous, when I put records on ebay they never do that
  11. As this is an oft repeated topic perhaps this thread could be used for examples of general ebay stupidity and/or more money than sense (MMTS)? My start: Why do this: https://cgi.ebay.com/SAM-BOWIE-THINK-OF-THE...1QQcmdZViewItem When you could more easily do this for less money (and possibly get a better condition record): https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/47331/BOWIE%2C+SAM Daft isn't it? Cheers Paul
  12. This landed through my door today, it is so clean I doubt it has seen a turntable. It's too good for me so I'll keep my issue. Anyone want it before I stick it on my website? Fred Hughes - Don't Let Me Down - VJ 71 M- (as near to mint as I've ever seen) 50 Cheque or Paypal welcome, no extra charges. Postage: 2.20 Recorded or 5.50 Special Delivery.
  13. Club in Sheffield run by Mik Parry and others. Been meaning to go as I understand they play some R&B, popcorn etc which I have been buying recently https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q...ffield&meta=
  14. Here's a link to the auction finish with soundfile: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/auction/newli...tionItemID=3154 Not heard it before, thought it was the stand out tune of this set of auctions, had no idea it was worth so much though
  15. I think I would try the "out in the sun for a few minutes" before trying this one! "bring the disc down towards the flame, if you do this at the right speed it will slowly start to droop" Brings me out in a sweat just reading it again Off for a lie down.
  16. I think that musically and as a scene (i.e. dancing, style etc) it has every chance of being a happening underground scene with a new generation. But I doubt that the record collecting aspect would be embraced as it is not the media of choice these days. One of the criticisms occasionally leveled at NS is that it is almost unique in that the tunes played are not available to everyone due to the prevalent OVO rule. If a new generation embraced the sounds I doubt they would embrace this ideal too. Just my humble .... Cheers Paul
  17. I bought this on my only visit to WC early 70's It was starting to get plays on the radio and so was one of the few tunes I recognised. Still got it somewhere. Cheers Paul (A div )
  18. Oops! I think I might have sold at least one of them. Sorry
  19. All-new, imaginatively named record sales website: www.paulsrecords.com Very basic at the moment but it all works. I'll be shovelling records on to it for the next few weeks so please check regularly. Done it cos I'm sick of selling on eBay (too expensive now) and sick of putting lists on here just to see them disappear off the page every half hour. Cheers Paul
  20. The PRS and PPL seem to have turned into complete ogres this last year, when I first bought my Pub it had no PRS or PPL licences, so I phoned them up and both were nice as pie and we got it sorted, in the following years renewals came up and I paid with not too much grumbling. In June last year the Pub was up for sale so I spoke to them both and explained that I didn't want to renew for a full year as I was expecting an imminent sale (another story!). Both insisted I had to and said I would get a refund for any unused term. I ummed and aahed and they both started phoning me repeatedly, at one point every day! The imminent sale fell through in late July so I renewed the licences. I left in early september and wrote to them both, surprise surprise I heard nothing. After phoning every week I got a refund from PPL in December. I am still being fobbed off by the PRS. In my opinion both licences are a complete rip off - musicians writers etc get royalties from sales, playing music in public assists those sales. We should charge them. Ta Paul

  22. First bash at this so still messing about, anyway my first bash is here: https://paultp.podOmatic.com/entry/2008-04-09T01_07_26-07_00 Will appeal to those a bit more R&B/popcorn orientated but it is hopefully all danceable music. Comments invited Thanks Paul
  23. Now that is nice, certainly the same picture as the UK Decca LP. Is it 45 or 33?
