  1. York Press article: https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/yorknews/d..._sparks_row.php The Soultrain people in Bristol are actually nothing to do with Don Cornelius who has the trade marks registered. Very curious to know how they get away with using the name. Anyway, best get there early on Saturday, think it might be busy
  2. Cheers Chalky, Sounds like one to wait for until it comes my way at the right price. Thanks Paul
  3. "Bernard Williams & the Original Blue Notes - It's Needless To Say c/w Focused On You - Harthon - £205" Is this a high or low price for this? Great tune, when I played the sound clip on JM's site I thought I'd heard it recently, maybe John Parker at YSC? Really liked it and thought about bidding but normally the ones I don't know and really like (6 out of 10) go for 4 figures. I never bothered and regret it now seeing the finishing price. Would be interested in what people's thoughts are on this. Cheers Paul
  4. mark101 or room101?
  5. Sweet Thanks Pete Thread closed.
  6. Yes Pete, sorry about that. Thank you so much (is there a forelock tugging smiley?) Perhaps you could just help me a touch more and say " I would sell them for 10 each .... if I had any .... and everyone knows I sell stuff really cheap ... and actually I haven't seen any for sale recently ... so make Paul a really good offer cos he's trying to raise money for more records" Along those lines possibly? Absolute truth is not necessary. I haven't seen my arse about this, so could we not fall out over it? I'm sure it was sincerely meant but to be honest your post has left my attempted sale a touch flat. Though I imagine it has amused the dear readers of this forum. I have just put a Marva Lee on Ebay for 120 , could you not comment on that please?
  7. That's not a PM, now is it?
  8. Bought these three a few years ago when they were put out, no idea what they go for these days so if someone would like to make me an offer for all or any of them that would be cool (think they were 15 each when new?). If you want to put me right on the price please pm me. 9. That's it, he's a powerseller so eBay keep him there cos they make money. If you follow the links through the neg feedback items to the poor buyers feedback it gets even worse, he leaves them negs that make out he's given them refunds when he hasn't and signs off each one with "system sucks" - which is ironically true.
  10. Yep, his feedback didn't lie, over 140 negs After I complained about the state of the record he immediately filed an unpaid item dispute saying that we had mutually agreed not to complete the transaction in order to claim back his ebay fees. He hadn't offered me a refund or anything actually. I cancelled the dispute by disagreeing about the mutual agreement and started a paypal dispute. He sent me a ebay message saying "and here's your neg". I don't have much choice now so I responded to his feedback, escalated the paypal dispute to a claim and left him negative feedback. Noticed that someone else had the same problem today with him too. He is a guy called LES HARRIS of San Antonio, his ebay user id is lharris4gq and he is a thief. Cheers Paul
  11. My missus is a Trade Mark Attorney, so I have a little knowledge of this (cos she bores me about work ) Did a quick search of the UK Registry and it is indeed Don Cornelius who has it registered, this is one of the registrations: https://www.ipo.gov.uk/tm/t-find/t-find-num...ademark=2206036 He is quite within his rights to ask you to desist using the name unfortunately, I'd be polite to him if you want to continue. He can ask for a fee (retrospective) for using the name if he wants and the courts will back him up too. Sad but true. Ta Paul
  12. You're right the majority are honest, it's just the odd one who makes it risky. I'll see how it goes then I'll name and shame if necessary.
  13. I know it happens fairly regularly but it still makes my blood boil. Dropping on the mat today, badly wrapped in an amount of corrugated cardboard that would cover a small car was a copy of The Continental 4 - The Way I love You - great record and a staple of all sales lists at about 20 - 25. When I finally extract it from its wrapping it looks pretty rough, I play it and this is what I hear: duffc4.mp3 I go and check the listing to see if I have inadvertently bid on a VG- copy but no; the ebay seller grades it M- in the title then says "Plays M- Looks VG+" in the description. I clean it and the intro sounds better, I think phew! I might be able to sell it on and get my money back ... then about 10 seconds in it jumps !! The most annoying thing in cases like this is that the seller will probably not re-imburse postage; so for bidding on an item with a blatantly untrue description, I've paid $12.72 for the record; he charged me $8 (!) for P&P and if I return it, it will cost me another £3. So I'll have spent 7 quid on thin air plus my time I know it happens all the time and it isn't a large amount of money but it grips my sh*t, it really does. What is the answer to this! duffc4.mp3
  14. Here: https://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZ784tp More items added daily (hopefully!) Thanks Paul
  15. To be honest, its not as easy as that; prices seem to change over a weekend and what something sells for one week is no indication of what it will sell for the next (up or down). Records perceived to be worth 20 sometimes sell for 40 or more, sometimes will sell for 10, most times they won't sell at all Same with records perceived to be around the 200 - 300 level, they go on eBay one week for 400 the next for 100. Really rare records frequently exceed their perceived price because of rarity & demand - i.e. they rarely come up for sale so get them when they do if you want them. You can't set a "current price" because if nobody wants a record then the price is immateriel, if everyone wants it some will pay more than the perceived "current price". Price guides are out of date as soon as they are printed, they are useful to give an indication of the level a record is likely to be priced but that's all. The way I look at it now is that if I decide to sell a record I'll only sell it for what I want to; some go some don't. If I'm buying I buy for a price I want to, sometimes too high and sometimes cheaply. I prefer the latter so I have a philosophy of letting records come to me - if I wait long enough a record I want will appear at a price I want to pay. To accurately price records you need to know who wants what when, what they will pay, what is available and in what quantity at any given moment. It is impossible. Ta Paul
  16. Why When Your Love Has Gone Just Walk In My Shoes Little Darling My Weakness Is You I'm Still Loving You A Thrill A Moment P.S. I think you are getting too close to your mother in law
  17. I've got a "Soul Sounds Of The 60's" LP on HMV, Has Dust My broom, You've Been Cheatin and a few others on. I'll post a piccy when I can find my digital camera.
  18. Cheers Mark, Nice choice of tracks too Ta Paul
  19. As late as that? Well, there you go. It has the legends: "Pure Manchester" and what looks like "orlake" scratched in the enormous run out grooves. Many thanks for the info, off to eBay it will go. Cheers Paul
  20. Going through boxes and came across this: It's a 4 track E.P. with the following tracks on it: 1. Reggie Alexander - It's Better 2. Johnny Mae Mathews - I Have no Choice 3. Kenny Shepard - What Difference Does It Make 4. Bobby Kline - Say Something Nice To Me Just wondered if anyone knew its origin or anything about it? Is it a legitamate release? Can't remember where I got it from. Cheers Paul
  21. I think you've misinterpreted the funk forum's use of the term "norman"
  22. WAT-CHINNED - the sensation felt when after listing a record on eBay and seeing the number of "watchers" climb to double figures, the item then ends with no bids and the number of watchers falls to the 2 who are waiting to see if you re-list the item cheaper. Looks like it would work on this thread and on the funk forum?
  23. Tache-twizzlers & Munters Quality An hour well wasted
  24. Very true, I wouldn't auction a really good record on eBay these days cos it just costs too much, it's a good place to get rid of smaller stuff though providing you are happy with selling at the price that you started the listing at (i.e. low). No way would I sell stuff on eBay for 99p though, after listing fees, selling fees and then paypal fees you will be lucky to end up with 50p The US sellers (and many others) have now upped their start prices to ensure that they don't sell 30-50 quid records for 5 dollars and to cover higher eBay fees. It is actually turning into what any regular auction house is, somewhere to get a bargain possibly and somewhere to get a quick sale at any price. Good stuff will find it's true price but the seller will pay a hefty fee for having stuff sold in this way. Cheers Paul
  25. The best one I've seen was a few years ago on the US eBay site (as ever ) listed as a "Northern Soul Classic". It was a copy of The Goodees - Black Pudding Bertha (The Queen Of Northern Soul). I can just imagine the seller reaching it in his pile of sh*te records and saying "Phew, no research needed here then"
