There's on on ebay US now Looks pretty clean too Cheers Paul

There's one just listed on ebay for $250 "Buy It Now" Which looks cheap when compared with this one

About a week ago I listed a whole load of LP's on ebay (not just soul) at 99p start and watched 90% of them finish without a bid, the others hardly raised enough to pay the listing fees for all the listings. I think the postage is what puts people off. One LP went to Japan and cost just under 7 quid to send, within the Uk it is about 2.50 to 3 quid. I'm taking them to the car boot on Saturday if the weather is fine. Quid each should see the back of them. Then I'm going to resurrect my "first 100 UK Motown LPs" project.

I'm afraid you're outside my current 5 mile radius Gizza set and I'll make the trip, I've got a pair of bicycle shorts somewhere and I understand they are de riguer in Brighton In fact now I remember, me & and Jo were supposed to be doing a set at DDRR in London ages ago but we got bumped for Mark Lamarr, so technically you owe me/us one (I think). Anyway I can do you a podcast/cd/summat of me girly stuff. I do like the sound of all those young women Cheers Paul

Simon, you just can't say that right after you've said this: "Personally i think NS is buzzing down in Brighton, this might sound slightly egocentric but the best dos i've been to recently have been down here. We've got a great young crowd coming through especially lots of girls (75% at DDRR where we play plenty of NS, rare & well known), there seems to be a real party atmosphere down here & the music is very vibrant & interesting, you'll hear records down here you'll hear nowhere else & we always aim directly at the dancefloor with high octane stuff!" You're in the 99%; you're putting on a good night doing what you want to do rather than trying to get everyone to turn round and follow you or preaching to people that their way is not the right way. And good on you P.S. Can I franchise DDRR as it always seemed like a really good idea. Cheers Paul

Taking the Northern Soul scene to a whole new level ?? With the right people in charge ?? What are you talking about? As far as I can see, at the moment in the UK there is something for everyone: good niters - if that's your thing; good soul nights if you look about; good oldies nights - if that's what you want; chin stroking nights; 6T's, modern, R&B, crossover; across the sideboard; etc etc There's crap too but there always is. I don't think everyone wants to be rounded up and pointed in the same direction then joined by the masses trailing along at the back. I certainly don't. To me it seems that the nature of most people involved is one that says "if everyone is going that way then I'm going this way" and they are usually met by people with the same attitude. Personally, I just want to collect records I like, get the opportunity to play them out now and again, buy and sell them, go out and hear other peoples' tastes and agree/disagree, discuss records, gain some knowledge, and have a dance now and again. At the moment it is just local soul nights for me but that's because it suits my personal circumstances. If I am not conforming to your view of which direction the Northern Soul scene should take I really don't give a toss. Cheers Paul

So We Are All P***ed Off With Paypal-is This The Answer
paultp replied to Quinvy's topic in All About the SOUL
Paypal's fees are not much different to any merchant service that allows you to accept money by credit card. When I used to sell using my own website, some shopping cart software and a merchant service (worldpay) I used to get charged a monthly fee as well as the fees, it was hardly worth it but I used the site as a demonstration site for selling the shopping cart software so I put up with it. I got defrauded whilst using that too, someone in the Philipines used an American's credit card to purchase 10 cd's from my site which I sent as all I saw was the payment into my bank account. About a month later Worldpay just had the money back. Luckily about 3 months later the CD's turned up undelivered. It must be hard for Paypal to decide who is the fraudster- seller or buyer, and they do provide fairly detailed guidelines. I don't doubt that they are not always diligent though. I actually like the service but I'm not too happy with eBay owning it, I'd rather use an independent service if there was one. Cheers Paul -
This reminds me of a conversation in my pub between the barman that evening (20 something) and the chap who used to run the village shop (long since closed, ironically he drives the Tesco delivery van). Barman: (Showing off his i-pod to admiring female customer) " yeah its the new i-pod, holds (insert figure grasped from air) tunes" Shoppy: (Butting In) "Right then, what does that do?" Barman explains that he can put all his tunes on it and walk round playing whatever he wants, where ever he wants. Shoppy: "So does it come with the music on it?" Barman laughs: "No you have to download it and then put it on it, or transfer from CD's" Shoppy: (looking bemused) "eh?" Barman: (Switches to patronising mode) " you use your computer to connect to the internet, download tunes and then transfer them onto your ipod, or you use your computer to transfer tunes from CD to mp3 and then put them on your ipod" Shoppy: "So you need a computer? How much did the i-pod cost?" Barman "£200" Shoppy: (Sprays beer onto bar) "How much?!!" (A commonly heard phrase in North Yorkshire) "So what can you do with it if you haven't got a computer?" Barman: (His turn to look bemused) "Well, nothing really" Shoppy: "Bloody hell! .... do you pay for the tunes you download?" Barman: (getting self concious as everyone is now listening - average age 50) "of course you do! but they are only 80p each" Shoppy splutters again: "How much?!! ... who do you get the tunes from?" Barman: "Well Apple's i-tunes is easiest ..." Shoppy : (interrupting) "Hang on, don't they make that lump of metal? .... Oh I get it!" Shoppy: (now laughing barely able to contain glee at finally understanding) "So you've paid 200 quid for a lump of metal that is useless unless you have paid umpteen hundred for a computer AND the internet connection? then you pay to download music from the people who make the lump of metal" (laughs loudly) "Well they bloody saw you coming!" (Drains pint to sound of laughter ringing round the bar - barman looks at me for support but I am scuttling off laughing too)

Jackey Beavers - Were Not Too Young - Mainstream/jaber
paultp replied to Albert Petit's topic in Look At Your Box
Popsike records the last Jaber copy at 403 pounds with Mainstream being about half that. -
Substitute the words "Ace Spectrum" for the word tulip and it actually has a ring of truth Worth a read for the quote: "Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one!" Charles Mackay

I wandered down to the Knavesmire in York yesterday, didn't buy any records but did get an Angram beer engine (quarter pint hand pull) in fantastic nick only 4 years old for 3 quid. All I need now to set up a nine of real ale in my yard shed is a longer bit of food grade pipe

There was a similar thread to this in January that asked "when will it end", obviously not yet /Credit-...nch-t64129.html My missus likened record buying/selling to the housing market: prices of general stuff go up and down according to demand; real quality holds its price; good quality is hard to get hold of and when people do they tend to hold on; in a down turn it is the lesser quality things that suffer first and most in terms of price. The "credit crunch" as it is laughingly termed (perhaps I should go to free-basing with that one) happened over late summer last year, it is the effects of it that are being felt now. I think that there is less disposable income about so less people are buying records, and those that are buying are doing so carefully. I don't think people have started panic selling yet though. I actually think that it will be the panic buyers of the last few years, some of whom have funded their collections through credit, or those that think they are investing in records that will be caught out and have to sell, causing prices to drop, again just like the housing market. The general economy of the last few years has been bouyant on the back of people raising funds out of rising property values (another joke term - "equity release") and now funds are hard to get other than by working for them. I personally look forward to an era of cheaper records but only once I've sold the contents of my sales box

Is it this speeded up? Or is it Matt Munro? Edit: Perm any 1 from 94: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teach_Me_Tonight

Whilst on the subject of Mr Manship's auctions, what on earth is The Showstoppers on Hem doing at over 1700 quid 27 days still to go too. These seem to go through ebay fairly frequently at 500 - 700 so is it because the condition is so good?
