Why Do People Run Soul Nights, Nighters Etc
You may have hit the nail on the head there actually, perhaps that is the way forward. There were/are some clubs (not northern soul as far as I know) in London that decided not to allow entry to just anyone as they found that the "wrong" people were coming and spoiling the night. As everyone pretty much knew everyone else who was like minded they made the clubs invite only. The result was a club full of people who liked the music being played and also the other people in the club. Hey presto, good club and great atmosphere. Just an idle thought .. Cheers Paul

E-bay
Ebay isn't a proper auction really, cos in a proper auction people keep bidding until no one bids any more then the hammer falls. I'm a sniper myself I'm afraid, advantages; low start records get lost in the thousands if no one bids so you sometimes get stuff cheap, you don't get bid up to your maximum by the sellers mates, if it goes silly your snipe bid doesn't hit and you don't get caught up in the frenzy. Also you used to be able to see all items someone was bidding on so if you found something cheap and bid everyone else knew who had bid. Ebay hiding bidders identities has just helped those sellers who get their mates to bid stuff up, it is in eBay's interests after all as they make more money. Early bidding has its advantages in that you can put your top bid in then forget it, if you win great if not no worries. But the strange thing is that some people will bid on something just because it has a bid on it whereas something with no bids can stay that way even if it is cheap. These days if I "win" anything cheap I always reckon I've just bought No 1 of a 100 count box

David Carboni-magic Lady
I sent Nev the link at 10.35 this morning but he's not been on here since 6.45 am. Is anyone in touch with him by other means? If I knew what it sounded like I might have bought it myself Edit: He's put a sound file up now and it's not my thing really

Card Sleeves
I've actually lied here What I bought were paper polylined sleeves, so I store my records in the paper polylined sleeve then put these into the standard white cardboard sleeve that you can get over here. So not cardboard polylined at all

Too Many Chief's-not Enough Indians
Another thought on this topic is that perhaps some of the smaller nights are actually far better than the bigger nights? How many times do we read Events Lookbacks on big niters/weekenders where big name DJ's play one after the other and just repeat records through the night due to the desire to metaphorically knob-wave their £1000+ tunes? Contrast that with the myriad of smaller soul nights where people believe in what they are doing and thus what they are playing. How many great tunes were first played at smaller nights before they are "discovered" by name DJ's? How many good DJ's get booked because they are bloody good at their local night? All of them because that's where all of them start. Probably had too much wine now so I'll stop before I continue in the " ... and another thing" vein.

Too Many Chief's-not Enough Indians
I think this is the essence of this thread really, if you are going to slag off soul nights, niters and DJs generally then be specific. On reading through the thread it looks like a few promoters posting who would like to see a lot of venues that clash or nearly clash disappear from view so that their own gets better attendance. If someone wants to put on a night who is to say they shouldn't? Good on them for bothering. If their night is crap then it won't survive anyway. If someone wants to DJ then why shouldn't they? Who's to say who can and who can't? A lot of contradictions here; "people shouldn't just start DJing ... yeh but no but .... people should Dj a lot before they can get regular/niter sets" This just smacks of an earlier thread where someone ranted on about "the scene would be better with the right people in charge" etc Perhaps we could have a vote to decide who gets the armbands and can then decide who puts on nights and who DJ's? To my mind its the vote of feet that normally works. Anyway, footy on soon, Turkey v Czech Repub is geting my vote

Card Sleeves
The one I got were plain white card with polylining, just the job really. I'll make some enquiries next week. Cheers Paul

Card Sleeves
The only place I could find them was bags unlimited in the states, you need to order loads though as the postage makes them expensive. In my case the postage was made worse cos they packed them in a box that was twice the size it needed to be. If there is a real demand I might order couple of thousand and sell them in small quantities off my web site, feel free to shout up. Cheers Paul

Kenny Shepard - What Difference Does It Make - Maxx 332
I thought that this was a solid 150 to 200 quid tune in Mint? Mind you popsike shows mint ones go on eBay at anything from $265 to $355 (disregarding the one described as mint but looking battered which went for $205 ) Anyway, I only have a VG+ (if that) one unfortunately but there is a mint (allegedly unplayed) one on ebay at the mo, for $299 which is about 150. Anyway its Hope that helps
