  1. Rare Detroit collectors item: The Sonnetts - Hit and Run Lover / You Never Answered Me - K.O. Records. One for the detroit collectors, this is the rarer of their 2 releases and the writers credits read like a who's who of Detroit soul. The A side has "Kendricks - Davis - Boladian" whilst the B side has "Hanks - Davis" I'd grade this as a conservative VG++, there are very light marks on the vinyl and some very slight ring wear and a "D-J" stamp on the label. It plays really cleanly though. It books at £100 and I've seen it for sale at up to £150. This one is priced at £70 plus postage.
  2. Maybe Beth Bynum is rarer than I thought, no idea. But £286 for David Coleman ??? I'm fairly sure if you put a want up for a copy at £100 you'd be offered 20 minters inside 30 mins. All this chucking around of money for the sake of it is ruining record collecting IMHO

  12. Nothing to do with passwords, about 10 snipes, all with the same seller, half worked, half didn't. Some I got outbid on, I won a couple but a couple of the ones that failed I'd really liked to have got at the prices they finished at. i actually think it was multiple snipes at pretty much the same time on the same seller's items that might have been the problem. Can only speculate though.
  13. That's what I thought, he's been very specific about his grading and the description and there are still some really honest sellers,on eBay US. I'd have happily had his VG records :-)
  14. Perhaps if everyone on here who has a copy puts it up on ebay for £404 the guy will see how many there actually are? It would look pretty cool too :-)
  15. The plastic ones that used to come with cheap turntables work a treat, When Curry's were selling their turntables off years ago I said to one of the staff that the plastic centres were really hard to get; he pulled four off the display turntables and gave me them - I was gobsmacked! Still have and use them. Jo Wallace has some metal cone shaped centres that a guy turned on a lathe especially for her, came in a nice little custom box and are engraved too - very jealous. The technics metal ones are definitely too big.
  16. I've used two of the three and they never let me down before either, it was the fact that auction sniper (which had always been 100% reliable) had failed that made me post this up.
  17. The only record I can think of that is better than Spyder Turner is The Parliaments - Don't Be Sore At Me, but I'm not sure that fits the newie criteria and its only my opinion anyway I really like hearing new tunes but quite often new tunes to me turn out to be oldies to others. I quite often really like the new new things that are recently discovered, but I'm with Pete in that none of them that I can think of stand up to any of the really great oldies in terms of quality. Unfamiliarity and rarity; possibly, but not side by side quality of tuneage. I think there was a thread of "funky northern soul" a while back and I said at the time that I'd listened to every tune in the thread and I thought there was only one or two that was any good and that would make me want to search them out. Its only my opinion but I think sometimes new discoveries are given more credibility than they really deserve to be given. And what do I know anyway?
  18. Love this tune, never had one drop into my hands yet though.
  19. That strategy will work brilliantly until you come across someone else with the same strategy that wants the same record.
  20. If you moved the decimal point to the left 3 places, I still wouldn't buy it. Sounded awful to these ears.
  21. I use one as I don't want to get into a bidding war with anyone, I also have a theory that some people are attracted to records with bids on them, I also delude myself that nobody else will see the things I've seen so I don't want to attract attention to them (sometimes that is true). It's mainly that I don't want to show my hand until the last minute, I might be over complicating things but I get some decent records at good prices using snipes. i've been using automatic sniping since the late 90's and the best example of why using them is good was a copy of Deep Dark Secret for about 30 quid round about then. Someone the following weekend was complaining that they had bid and then stayed up until 2.30 in the morning to make sure that if anyone else bid they could bid again, they then watched themselves get outbid and the auction finish before they could react. I was asleep at the time, a machine bid for me and I didn't get caught up or carried away by auction fever. People are more savvy now so loads of people use them and if they bid higher than you, then you still lose. Most of the auction action takes place in the last 20 seconds these days. Sometimes you win most times I don't because I'm tight.
  22. Auction sniper runs on their own servers, I just put the items and max bids in. They charge next to nothing but make their money through using ebay partner links I think. According to auctionsniper, Ebay actually blocked the bids which is a bit worrying.
  23. Cheers Pete, I'll have a look at it. It adds to the frustration that the ones that went through OK were for things that were just making the postage etc worthwhile. aah well.
  24. That actually makes it worse!
