  1. There's one on my site for £15, it is only VG but it plays OK, you can listen on the site. It's on this page: https://www.paulsrecords.com/northernsoul.html Cheers Paul
  2. With you on that Simon Mind you I can't believe I've been collecting long enough to be able to smugly say " .. got mine for ten quid in 1999" Cheers Paul
  3. You should listen to him more carefully, for he agrees with me and so must be right.
  4. Mikey, What you're supposed to do there is tell them you had 9 pm's in a minute and it sold to the first one, they'll all nod knowingly and think that some one else got lucky and identify them as the next person to offer it at its true value. Then you either go across to the funk board with your completely dissimilar user name and put it up for offers or leave it a month then put it up here again saying you've found another copy. I'll send you an invoice. Cheers Paul P.S. Still no lard?
  5. My sad, cynical, 50+ view of films about NS (not just this one - any and all of them) is that they will just make the NS scene look ridiculous because they try and mainstream something that just isn't mainstream. Bums on seats rather than authenticity has got to be the priority for those involved which means portraying NS in a way that the masses understand (i.e. nice and simple) and also always including the only widely-known NS venue: W*g*n C*s*n*. Is there anyone who hasn't experienced the conversation about music preferences that turns to word association as soon as the phrase "Northern Soul" is uttered? The normal reply being "Oh yeah! ... Wigan Pier eh?". It will only get worse. I only flit about the edges of what is loosely termed "The Northern Soul scene" but to to my mind if it doesn't attract people organically then they are never going to be attracted and that is no bad thing. Brace yourselves for ridicule and a short term boost to event attendances as the aftermath to each film. Mind you, the posers and egotists should have a field day post-film as they can all trot out their "I was there" experiences to the media (again ). Should be all manner of materiel there for blogs and p*ss-taking so it won't all be bad. Cheers Paul
  6. He's already explained .......... ............... he's been to Stoke
  7. I'm completely knackered then, 15 stone and size 11 Say no to feetism!
  8. I thought this post was a p*ss take, but its evidently not (well as we say in Yorkshire "it is and it isn't") Here's a link that the media savvy JW missed out of his post: https://www.ipsofactofilms.com/films/souled_out.html The plot looks riveting For the star struck, there is the opportunity to register your interest in becoming an extra, filming August/September. I wonder if there is any place for an over-weight 50 plusser with a pacemaker? Cheers Paul
  9. Matt, Most people who put records up on here asking for offers are just trying to find out how much people will pay for them and/or how in demand they are. They probably only sell them if they get a surprisingly high offer I really like the ones that say "no silly offers" - What on earth does that mean? Generally these are accompanied by an artist & title I have never heard of never mind have any idea of price. I guess they only want to either highlight the fact that they have a record AND will sell it or alternatively will only sell it to another member of their small social group. There's a lot of assumptions on here. I've always taken the view that if people ask for offers that is the start of negotiations so I make an offer at the least I want to pay expecting a reply containing either a figure that is the most they are expecting or a simple "***k off!". To be honest I've given up responding to alleged sales posts asking for offers as mostly you don't get a reply. Just MHO Cheers Paul
  10. Actually I think it could be rocket science if you take all the variables involved. (Non-mathematicians look away now) Let X = record price The next thing to do is list the variables: Let R = Rarity (possibly 2 variables - L = label & T= tune) Let C = Collectability (difficult label no, related to certain artist, etc) Let I = In-demandness Let Q = Quality of tune (again possibly 2 variables - E = listenability & D = danceability) Let S = Previous known sales prices Let P = Previous purchasers Let Z = purchase price Let Q = quantity in the market for sale (not to be mistaken for quantity owned by dealer or confused with rarity) Next we have to decide what to start the equation with and then weight each variable (ie determine a scale for it) to know what effect it has on the starting variable to give the price. I would say the start point would normally be previously known sales price (if known - if not ?) so the start of the equation is: X = P .... Everything should then act as a factor on that so we get: X = P() So the next thing to do is put an understandable scale against each variable to determine the effect it has ..... .... errr ...... maybe that's why it is difficult to price records! If anyone would like to take this further please do.
  11. My tuppence worth: I buy and sell records to buy records, I've always kept my personal finances and my record buying seperate otherwise its a slippery slope. There are only a few people buying records for 1000's and these generally fall into three categories: - Those with loads of wonga who can afford to; - those with loads of records who rarely buy these days but occassionally add to their collection a genuinely rare record, sometimes funding the purchase by selling from their vast collection; - and finally those that want the world yesterday and will put themselves into financial peril to get it. After ten years of buying and selling records (which is only a short time in the scheme of things Northern Soul) I take the view that records will come to me eventually. So when stuff comes up and I can afford it I buy it. Patience is the key, there are thousands of records to go at so there is always something worth having. As for your House records - bung em in the loft and wait 15 - 20 years for the revival. All your contemporaries will have loads of dosh and start buying records again at vastly inflated prices
  12. The "buy it now" one is but it is $499 Think he's having a laugh. There is a much cheaper one listed today
  13. One on ebay
  14. pm'd you
  15. Bought quite a few bits and pieces recently though I think most will end up for sale on my web site. A few that I can't make my mind up on are: Bobbettes - Having fun - RCA The other side is good too - I've Gotta face the World Joe & George - No One Loves You - Now Again, the other side is good - You're Gonna Miss Me The Ideals - The Gorilla - Canadian Regency Mad tune and supposed to be rare on Canadian I also got a couple of fantastic tunes by Little Esther Philips recently: Wild Child - Warwick (Sound file on my website in "My Records".) If It's News To You - Savoy Both R&B Bought some Latin stuff too
  16. Dunno if you sorted this out, but anyway spotted one on ebay Horrible record IMHO
  17. There's one with a couple of days to go on ebay $29.99 with no bids.
  18. Sorry, I'm not having a dig at you personally. Clumsy attempt to make a point on your thread. I'll pack it in before I get on everyone's tits including my own .
  19. On what basis were you asked to DJ? Your ability to put a set together? Your ability to read a dance floor? Your mate was running a do? You had some decks?
  20. There's one just gone on ebay too Dunno if this is a silly price or not though
  21. How did you start DJing?
  22. Ah! Didn't realise it was the infamous Radwill, I was done by him myself some years ago. Only for a couple of relatively cheap 45's but it wasn't pleasant.
  23. I knew someone had asked for this! Anyway, I know it was a while ago but there is one just tipped up on eBay Cheers Paul
  24. I must disagree on a couple of points here Firstly, as I remember it I was Djing, they formation danced to The Profiles - Take A Giant Step. Secondly, they were Dutch. I blame you - you'd let anyone in. Mind you, I agree that they didn't look out of place We had some very strange bods down there at times. That Marc Almond walked past the door once. What was this thread about again? Oh yes; Why do people run Soul nights etc - because they want to I suppose and they've got the gumption to go ahead and do it. We started These Old Shoes because we thought it would be a great thing to do and there wasn't much on in London at the time (1998) other than the 100 club and some occasional (excellent) nights put on by Keb Darge & Ion. We did it to play and hear music and have a bit of fun, we hoped that others would come along and do the same, surprisingly they did. I'd love to start up a club again, it was great fun. Weeknight R&B, Popcorn, Northern & Latin in York anyone? Does anyone really put on a Soul night to make money? I very much doubt it. As an aside, there are some bloody cynical, moaning, mithering threads on here at the moment. Has everyone lost their marbles along with their perspective? (Might start a thread on this somewhere). Cheers Paul
