I was looking stout on Saturday Where would this shirt fit in your style guide Trev?
-
Just browsing through the popcorn, there's one of these ending this evening on ebay [here]
-
No, but I do have one at £40 on my web site, I'd do it for £35 if you pay by cheque. https://www.paulsrecords.com/northernsoul.html Don't think JM or CM have one listed at the mo. Gemm shows 3 listed (1 is £25ish) but none are Ex {here} Oh and there's a VG one on ebay starting at $6.99 {here} IMHO mine is the best value of these

Just been and had a look, £193 - good grief! I got one of these off UK ebay for 50 about 3 months ago, nobody else bid. I thought when they were changing hands at a ton it would only be while it was in-demand then the price would drop back. Anyone able to put a figure on how rare it actually is?

Just sold another I'm sure we've discussed the Ebony Alleyne CD on this forum before somewhere, might have been on a thread about either of the NS 2007 & 2008 CDs, think someone posted up a link to the Ebony Alleyne track. Can't remember. -

Chicory Tip - the first moog synthesiser if I remember correctly It looked like someone had stuffed the church piano full of valves. It got to No 1 too if my memory serves so would make good background music to general scenes.

Was that my post just disappeared? Sorry, was still typing when you posted about deleting non-film posts. I mentioned film so this must be on-topic P.S. I like your new signature Mike, when did you change it? I hope they incorporate it into the film script

You seem to always be angry If you would stop spitting venom for a moment and read the posts, you'll see that I voiced an opinion (or two) which I'm quite entitled to do to be honest. I think I've said "in my opinion" in every post I've made on this thread. I'm not sure who decides what Northern Soul is as there are many different views. Maybe its you? Maybe its Russ Winstanley? Maybe its Butch? Maybe its KFC? Maybe its Beeks? One of the reasons forums like this exist is to discuss that and other topics and heaven forbid that we all agree, that would be dull. I know what I like when I hear it and so that's Northern Soul to me. Whatever is Northern Soul to you may differ from my view of it but I bet our views overlap somewhere. Do you know what I think would be really good? (Takes deep breath) IMVHO it would be really good if you contributed to the discussions here instead of just blasting away at all around you. Please don't take that as an insult it isn't meant to be. I honestly think your views would be appreciated by most here despite what you think of the forum members in general. Mods: Sorry if none of this is on-topic, I'll try and think of something in a minute or two. [Edit] Just read Trevski's post (hat tipped again) sorry for repetition. [Edit2] On-topic bit: I apologise for saying I hope the film projects fail, that really was a bit strong and wasn't what I meant, shouldn't wish failure on anyone. I meant that I would rather they didn't go ahead cos I can't see any good in it and I think it is a bit tacky, also the souled out one sounds crap from what the film makers have posted here. I hope they are as good as Quadraphenia and prove me completely wrong and that we celebrate them for the next 50 years and (cont on pg 94).

Mikey, You say the things I mean in a far better way than I do, hat tipped Cheers Paul

I shouldn't have mentioned your CD's should I as I've just given you another opportunity to promote them, doh! I don't really see myself as the Soul Police but it is an easy term to bandy about. After all this is more Soul Police like: "And now I am here to not let you get away with your closed minded strangulation of a beautiful music form" You called me a facist so I thought I should respond, as to be honest that is just a tad over the top but not unexpected from you. I doubt you have even started given your previous form on personal insults. On this thread you have already started dishing it out to all and sundry and there'll be worse to come I'm sure. I haven't gone out of my way to criticise, I just don't like those CD's. Apart from the content of them which wasn't to my personal taste, I thought using the title Northern Soul 2007/8 was really a bit of a mis-description (if that's a word - it should be if it isn't) cos they didn't have anything to do with Northern Soul to my ears and didn't seem to be very representative in my opinion. But it's a wide and fractional scene and so it doesn't really matter what I personally think does it? If three million people like them then they must be good, I'm pleased for you if they have sold that many. The words "Northern Soul" obviously sell things at the moment which was my original point. Edit: That last bit was the on-topic bit.

disingenuous adjective not straightforward or candid; giving a false appearance of frankness

Aha! That's what it's all about! Never mind the name calling and self righteousness guff, this is the important bit. "AND BE MADE ANEW" "I live for it and I pray for it." I bet you do!

Started reading this again this morning as an excuse to not start working and saw this Blimey! So just a reminder as part of a longer post I said this: "I hope they and the other film makers fail miserably and all proposed films about northern soul die on their *rse. They have no interest whatsoever in the music, they are just bandwagon jumpers" The reason I said this is in the relatively short time I have been into Northern Soul, each time people such as "ipso facto" (still can't type that without laughing) have wafted in and out of Northern Soul the temporary publicity generated attracts other aspects of the media who take a brief look at NS; make some sound-bite remarks and then naff off. In the wake of the sound-bites comes rubber neckers who p*ss everyone off for a short but unhappy period. There are no positives from coverage like this. As an example of this does anyone remember the guardian coverage of The 100 Club followed by pieces in Loaded and a couple of other mags? All the London clubs were over run with idiots for about 3 months and then they all naffed off somewhere else. My personal opinion is that people find Northern Soul in whatever way they want - it doesn't find them. I do hope the films fail, not because I have anything personal against the makers or anyone involved, but because I think they are typical wafters in and out who will use a current perceived trendiness to make some money then naff off. There will not be any positive outcome for anyone other than themselves. Mr Levine; as for your "ignorant and facist" comments (with the eybrow raising "humble opinion" one ) perhaps you should go back over some of the frankly appalling comments you made about people when you launched your humbly named "advanced-northern-soul" list (prior to your promotion of The Rocket) to read some really "ignorant and facist" remarks. While we're on the subject of wafters in and outers, does your arrival on this forum and this particular thread possibly have anything to do with some involvement in "ipso facto" (sorry ) and/or the film? Or is this just another opportunity to promote your awful CD's - NS 2007 and the worse follow up NS 2008. I saw your first post and stopped reading half way through as it looked like your normal cut and paste "outraged of London" effort, I'll have to go back and read it again (or maybe not). I wondered why the thread had gone from 9 to 12 pages overnight and also how you had got to 23 posts so quickly. Then I saw some of your other one-liners (grow up by the way) and realised. I reckon you'll post on here for about 2 weeks or so then naff off in a huff to return about 6 weeks before the film or project you are currently involved in launches. Might be fun but previous experience suggests that it will just deteriorate. Ta & Ta-Ta! Paul

Now I know that none of this is serious; we've got a film company called ipso facto FFS (legs akimbo anyone?), a music consultant called shimmy summat-or-other and now Paul's put a post up allegedly from Ian Levine! Please stop all this silliness now, its gone beyond a joke, I can barely type from laughing. Laters taters Paul

I'm not picking holes in their work cos it doesn't exist. I'm entitled to my opinion and that opinion is based on the various promotional guff put about by those involved with the film. The story line and the mass of incorrect information about the period that they have published leads me to proposing my bets. It sounds bloody awful and as I said that is my opinion, you're welcome to yours. Which one are you taking me up on? I'll give you a hint - the straight to DVD looks like its a dodgy bet for me cos if the extras go to see themselves that should about fill screen 12 at the local Vue. I'll give you 2/1 that its a pile of cack though. I hope they and the other film makers fail miserably and all proposed films about northern soul die on their *rse. They have no interest whatsoever in the music, they are just bandwagon jumpers. Off to rummage for more records on t'internet Cheers Paul

Think this link works and shows prices in IE (I have IE6 still cos I'm a luddite) https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/auction/newli...tionItemID=3420 Ta Paul

Tenner says it is a pile of cack that makes Northern Soul look ridiculous to those on the scene. Twenty says it attracts herds of rubber-neckers to do's up and down the country (mixed blessing there). Another tenner says it goes straight to DVD. Why anyone wants to be involved with this rubbish is beyond me.

Brilliant tune! Alan H play I believe? Still annoyed with myself for not finishing on this one at YSC when I DJ'd there last year. The light next to the DJ box had gone out and I couldn't find it in time. B*gger!

Earlier on in this thread someone mentioned "getting the period right", if the film bods would like an example (IMHO and all that) of getting a period right they could do worse than watch "Control" - the film about Joy Division. In an early scene they had some chap in wide kegs (not baggies), a tank top and a leather bomber, set in 1974 it was absolutely spot on. Ta & Ta-Ta Paul edit: The hair cuts were just right too so can I suggest that all the freebie extras have their hair cut correctly before you film? edit2: The scene in the chemistry lab woke me up, bloody spit of my old school chem labs.

I bought a mint Billy Kennedy off Pat Brady a few years ago, I'd seen it at Cleethorpes and rang him a few days afterwards about it. When it turned up the package had a great big boot mark on it and was flattened in one area. When I opened it up, the record had been crushed at one edge in a semi-circle about the size of a 10p piece, so that there were a load of little cracks going into the record. It still plays thankfully (both sides) but the post office would only give me 175 back of the 200 I paid because I wanted to keep the record. I'd still rather have a mint one though

There's a Ruth Brown on my site: https://www.paulsrecords.com/northernsoul.html It's graded VG cos there is a 1 sec his for the first few revolutions, it would be OK to DJ with though. Its 15 quid and you can have a listen to it on the site. Cheers Paul
