Saw a copy of "To The Ends Of The Earth" (if memory serves) in a play box in Bolton some years ago with a stanley knife blade glued to the back to hold it together. Played perfectly.

I think you're right on this, sounds very much like his technology doesn't match what he's actually doing and he doesn't realise that probably more people watch/would bid(?) on the internet than actually ring him up. To my mind you need to be clear about what's going on, so if you can ring up and overbid what is shown on the web site, then either the web site has got to be updated or at least show some disclaimer that whatever shown on the web site is not necessarily up to date. I never bid on dealer web sites for three reasons: I'm a cynic; Prices go too high; I don't spend that sort of money on records Ta paul
  7. There's 2 on ebay "Buy It Now" [here] - $24 & $20, one of them has a sound file too (nice tune).

I remember chatting to Andy Rix a few years ago about Motown v the-rest-of-northern-soul-put-together and we agreed that Motown p*ss*s all over anyone elses output. Good distribution does not make for a bad record, bad distribution may make a good record rare and thus valuable. For all the rubbish releases there are about 100 good tunes for each of them and the stuff in their unreleased catalogue beats most other released stuff on its own. If Berry Gordy had been a crap businessman then Motown records would have been more collectable and playable than any other label due to their quality. If they hadn't have been hits they would all have been £1000 floor fillers. Is Motown any good? What a stupid question! Cheers Paul
  11. One on ebay [here] Last one on JM's auction went for £231
  12. Sorry to butt in, is this Benn-X release a legitimate release then? Gorgeous tune!
  13. I don't know what this record normally sells for, but the postage charge thing looks like an attempt to not pay ebay selling charges as they are based on final price before postage is added. Cute really.
  14. There's a good few on ebay [here]
  15. I actually think the guy has been pretty genuine, when he put the first batch of different records up on ebay, he started them all at 9.99 because he had no idea what he had. He clearly stated he had bought up the stock of a closed record shop. Now, if we had formed an orderly queue and been gentlemanly about it we could have had them for about $50 each. But the desire to own this record and in some cases the desire to make money ensured the first copy went for at least a couple of thou' and the seller being bombarded with emails asking if he had any more and how much. It was quickly clear that he had at least a boxfull, just not how big his box was. He seems to have run out of "The Fabulous Apollos - Some Good In Everything Bad" and most of the Ric-Tic stuff. Good luck to him, he took the risk on a closed shop's stiock and has been lucky. I just hope he doesn't run out before one of my snipe bids actually gets one.

  18. You should always charge for postage with insurance, there are too many people out there who will claim something hasn't turned up when it has and paypal will find in favour of them. Most are honest but a lot are not. When I sell records off my website, I charge enough postage to send them insured in the UK (recorded = £36, spec delivery = up to 500). If someone orders from overseas, I send them signed for and/or insured depending on the value, even if it cosdts more postage than they paid, just so that at the end of the day I can recover my costs in the worst case. Have a look on ebay US and see how many sellers wil not post to Italy, Spain or France Not had any probs myself but better safe than sorry. edit; In terms of costs; I just sent a record to Australia insured up to 200 and it cost about 8.50, one to the US signed for (insured up to 36) cost 5.60. I've sent stuff to Europe insured to about 200 and again it costs about 8 quid.
