  1. Not sure I'd want unplayed records, would be too worried about scratching them to play them. Give me cheap crackly, x on label classics every time!
  2. Paid 60 for mine (inc postage) off here in Oct 2012, really like the Pass The Word side but didn't realise it was getting played (don't go out). Has it really gone for 400? Wow!
  3. Almost quadrupled in price in 2 years
  4. Universal do this now and again and are fully within their rights as "Motown" as a trademark is owned by them. Usually the complaint is that they don't do it often enough e.g. chasing down bootlegs, dodgy t-shirt sellers etc.
  5. It's on ebay quite a lot isn't it? What's special about his one?
  6. I'm sure there was a thread exactly the same as this posted up sometime in the last year I seem to remember being slagged off for suggesting the promoter was cynically jumping on the NS bandwagon, so I won't bother this time.
  7. As Pete says, it will never be updated. The trigger for updating recorded delivery is the actual delivery and signature; place and time of postage is recorded then it just disappears until it is signed for - if it isn't signed for it will always show as "in progress" or whatever. RM is very 1970's still.
  8. Had this happen both ways (as a seller and a buyer) - refunded my buyer and claimed off Royal Mail, it took ages and they will only pay out up to the recorded limit (which was fine in my case). As a buyer I complained to Royal Mail and they said "but it was only recorded" - a rant about them selling three levels of service and it not being good enough that they only care about the most expensive was a waste of my breath. I will only post records when they are insured up to the full value, until Royal Mail realise they are supposed to actually deliver things according to the description of the product they have sold you. My view on Royal Mail's postal offers is: 1st/2nd Class - same service and equivalent to putting things in a bottle and throwing them in the sea. Recorded Delivery - as 1st/2nd class but at least you might get some money back eventually when they lose your item. Special Delivery - the only service that works as they say it will
  9. Hi, As it says in the title is this an original or something else? If it is something else what is it? Thanks
  10. Thanks everyone, beginning to get the picture now i thought initially that it might reduce postage costs but it looks like ebay are doing something that works for them though not necessarily beneficial to anyone else (not like ebay haha) looks like there is also a danger that transit time increases and handling is poor. Think as a seller I may well opt out. Cheers Paul
  11. Why would I want to do that? it looks like a good thing, if they are introducing it in th US the perhaps we in the UK will only have to pay local US postal charges rather than international?
  12. I've received this from eBay telling me i'm now in their "Global Shipping Program". It looks like if I sell to Europe or US I only have to charge UK postage and send the item to ebay's depot where they process it. Has anyone else had any information on this or used it? Hardly ever sell on ebay now Anyway, here it is: We're pleased to let you know that you're now enrolled in the Global Shipping Programme. It's an easy way to reach millions more buyers with minimal changes to your current processes. The Programme is for sellers who don't currently offer international postage on listings. Key points for sellers · Reach more buyers outside of the UK. · International buyers automatically see a postage cost to their country on your listings. · Simply post the item to the UK address we provide and we'll take care of the rest. HOW IT WORKS · In approximately 2-3 days' time, your eligible listings will begin showing international postage costs to buyers in other countries at no additional cost to you. · We'll automatically include a total charge for international tracked postage on your listings which will be paid by your prospective buyers. You only pay for your usual postage costs within the UK. · When one of your items sells through the Programme, you simply post it to the UK Shipping Centre, where your parcel will be processed for international delivery. The address of the UK Shipping Centre is automatically provided to you as the 'Post-to' address for the order. The address includes a unique identifier code. This is so the UK Shipping Centre can identify your item - always include this code on your address label. COUNTRIES INCLUDED Millions more people around the world will soon be able to buy from you. International postage to the following EU countries will be shown on your listings: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. International postage plus applicable customs charges will be shown to buyers in the following non-EU countries: Australia & New Zealand, Brazil, China, Japan, Russia and USA & Canada. If you've excluded any of these countries on your listings via My eBay, your preferences will remain in place. SELLER PROTECTION With the Global Shipping Programme, you're protected in several ways, provided you follow best practices. For example, you can get automatic 5-star ratings for dispatch time and postage & packaging charges when you provide free domestic postage and your handling time meets certain conditions. You're also protected from negative or neutral Feedback and ratings lower than 5 stars due to loss or damage to your item in international transit, or delayed delivery. Read more about how sellers are protected with the Global Shipping Programme. RETURNS Returns are not handled through the Global Shipping Programme. Private sellers - If a buyer contacts you directly, we recommend working together to resolve the issue. You don't have to accept a return if the buyer has simply changed their mind, but any buyer claim for Not as Described will be processed subject to the eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection in countries without eBay Money Back Guarantee. Business sellers - Your UK returns policy will be displayed and applied to EU buyers. Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011), buyers can withdraw from most distance transactions with business sellers within 14 calendar days without penalty and without giving any reason. Read more about managing international returns. All sellers - If your buyer asks you for a refund on their purchase, you're only expected to refund the cost of the item and what you charged for domestic postage. We'll take care of refunding the international postage charges for sending the parcel to them, if applicable. Please handle any return postage costs directly with the buyer, depending on the reason of the return.
  13. This has been done for years though, by top DJ's as well (the playing of boots because they own an original that doesn't play). The one I heard about ages ago was Lady In Green. I (half-jokingly) suggested that this practice would make it OK from an OVO perspective to record your originals into digital format, play your set off your laptop and hold up each record as it was being played.
  14. If someone pointed to you in the street and said to their friend "He's/She's a Northern Souler!" would you be happy? I'd think I was somehow caught up in the first half hour of a mediocre film. No from me.
  15. I've got a spare of volume 1 (in numbered box rather than the ones they started selling after they reached the end of the limited edition) and all records play fine if anyone wants it? Both my copies came direct from Universal.
  16. Johnnie mae matthews Cut me loose Art VG+ I The other side of this is one of the best (and hardest) versions of Lonely You'll Be if my memory still works. I have it on Jam or I would have bought that as well, good price IMHO. Think it is the same mix:
  17. {Insert different record ever week}
  18. Jimmy Ruffin, Linda Perry & Paramounts please. can you pm me total and payment details if all available? Cheers Paul
  19. You can't use those words on ebay as your listing gets deleted
  20. It would be good to see the content up as a website IMHO (or a part of this one), same with other mags. The content in context would be great to see.
  21. I have to say that if someone gave me that story, I wouldn't have sold them a record either without trying to find out more. Don't think Graeme dd anything wrong.
  22. I won't do send stuff overseas without sending it insured, if they don't want to pay just don't sell it to them. In the UK I always make the point that if sent unsigned for i will not accept paypal and it is sent at the buyers risk, pointing out the claim limit. Never understood why people will pay hundreds for records then won't pay the insured postage.
  23. That is of course right but unfortunately Royal Mail will only pay the seller the price they paid for the record not the price they sold it for, I've had this problem before, you have to prove what you paid for it. If you can get the buyer to claim then Royal Mail actually pay out what they have paid for the record as that is the loss. So if you buy a record to sell on at a profit, Royal Mail will not reimburse you your profit, mainly as they don't understand the workings of a business. If you've had a record 20 years how do you prove what you paid for it?
  24. I think I'd buy some of them if I had enough spare money. But 7.5K on a record is just something I can never see myself doing unless the euromillions drops in my lap, so The Magnetics joins a ever growing list of records I will never get. It is a bit disheartening for the casual collector to see record prices going up so much, many are now only available to those with tons of spare cash. In a way I'm pleased to have some of the records I do have as I couldn't buy them these days, the sad thing is that I only started buying in the mid to late 90's. Seeing records I bought for a ton or ton-fifty now change hands for 4, 5, 6 hundred quid in the space of a decade or so seems a bit barking. People with tons of money idly buying expensive records because they can actually grips my sh*t a bit! I'd like to think these records go to people who have been collecting for ages and are just putting the cream on their collection every now and then but I somehow doubt that is the case most of the time. I'm still waiting for this promised avalanche of records as everyone cashes in or pops their clogs. No sign yet though.
  25. Still looking please
