  1. If you sent it first class, proof of postage is just that - proof of postage. I think you can claim up to £40 on proof of postage but you have to prove value (what you paid not what you sold it for).
  2. Here's a proper comedy sale: Parisians Some may feel the price is reasonable, but I couldn't possibly comment The comedy thing for me is that the seller is located in the UK but states they only ship to the US, which means eBay prevents UK bidders bidding. Someone have a word ............ And before anybody starts moaning, this is not under the radar
  3. Glad you posted that up, I was a bit shocked to think the mean green one was going for £50, I thought £15 I'm well out of touch! Rooted mine out for a sale later this month

  5. When I put the link to the CODs up, firstly it had already been mentioned on here as being on ebay, secondly the price was at about 600 dollars which is hardly under the radar. I'd had it on my watch list since it had been listed as the guy had another record listed that I have a search set up for and I was interested to see what it would fetch, I knew it would never stay at 9.99 as people always seem to put bids on this sort of record throughout the time of the listing. I always think it funny to see a 50 dollar bid on the second day of a listing of a record that will always go silly. The advantage of snipe bidding is that records that are listed at 9.99 disappear into ebay if nobody bids on them. But I can't think of a decent record where that has happened for me for about two years. A while ago I met somebody who looks at ebay from 5 am every morning and bids on every decent record, I reckoned that if one person was doing it then others were too. There is probably somebody who has set searches up for everything that books at £100 upwards and gets emails when they are listed, if there isn't there probably soon will be. Might not have been seen? as if!
  6. You seem to be the only person on this thread that is arguing that a tune on a record which was first issued in 1967 when pressed again in 2006, the 2006 issue is OVO. As you point out, it is a legal issue but its not quite what people accept as OVO. And as you also point out the Stax label is a re-activation. Personally, I agree with Davie, I like to have the records that were issued in the 60's or 70's as they are the ones that were cut without hindsight. That's what it comes down to in the end - personal preference. OVO is a personal view of things it isn't a right or wrong view, I don't know why people keep arguing about it. Arguing that a 2006 issue should be considered OVO isn't going to change anyone's mind, whatever their view.
  7. I had the misfortune to buy some records off Radwill Allen/Alllen Radwill ages ago - the man is a thief pure and simple and well known for it.
  8. I think I'm about to get one of these. I won a US post only record and then the guy asked me what the postage would be, I said between 6 and 10 dollars normally. He emailed me yesterday complaining that the cheapest service he could find was $37 - so he's either sent it tracked, insured and signed for (and I'll get a VAT bill) or its in a very large box. I've offered to pay the extra postage but he said its OK, so I also think that the record is going to be trashed when I get it - it was described as "in excellent shape" - so round then? The joys of record buying
  9. The "Billy" bookcase always makes me sn***** I'm afraid. Whilst I was in the army we used to use the word billy before a word to describe somebody, taking the idea from Billy Whiz. So we used to have Billy idiot, Billy a***hole, Billy beard (special forces in NI - beards apparently made them covert ), Billy p*sshead, Billy nutcase, etc ... You had to be there Billy bookcase Sorry, on topic - I made my own.
  10. After leaving the 100 into the daylight one morning, I wandered down to get the tube East back to Rovverhive. The only people on my side of the platform were a few who had also been up all night at various places, the other side was empty. Then the strangest thing happened. The other side slowly started filling up with thin people in running kit. After about ten minutes it was absolutely rammed. The few of us on our side, looking like sh*t, stared in amazement at them whilst they, looking like they had had a good nights sleep after a large plate of pasta, did the same to us. The trains turned up and we boarded and disappeared in different directions. Turned out it was the day of the London Marathon. I've always wondered what route to the start they had been given as they were all heading west.
  11. NIce tune, shame about the condition, if he started it at a dollar it might sell ............... just! 260973204024 Yuk!
  12. That ring mark on the label is the mark of being picked up by a juke box arm. Hadn't looked at the drill hole position so maybe it is the same record in each photo - it isn't Mint though
  13. I know this is an in demand record but with a listing, feedback score, seller location and sound file like this would you give it a go? [banny Price] The photos look like two different records, it (both?) has obviously been in a jukebox, the sound file hisses and pops like anything and the seller has just graded it "-M to Mint" Dread to think what it will finish at.
  14. With my anorak on ...... Most second chance offers from the states come from sellers with multiple copies - if they deal a lot (i.e. a lot of feedback) that's normally the case. Records used to be a dollar a time in shops in the US not that long ago, so when the sell one for 15, 20, 30 whatever they are happy to let the others go at a similar price. Occasionally I've had one when the winner hasn't paid but I'm always a bit suspicious of those and have a look at the bidding to see if it looks like I've been bid up. This generally only happens with expensive records. The recent Jimmy Burns second chance offer was almost certainly probably a con! Cheers Paul

  16. I've had a little listen and it's quite good - nice hammond, great sax but also includes one of my pet hates - twangy guitar!! I used to have a theory that somebody in Detroit in the 60's was playing sessions and trying to introduce twangy guitar, sometimes gaining agreement and sometimes not. Two sided thing on Big Hit is another example of a good record spoilt by twangy guitar. Just IMHO I just bought a copy for a few dollars on spec off ebay and was wondering what I'd bought! Cheers Paul
  17. OK, Cheers Geoff & Ricky, I'll have a listen to Mr Fine Wine. Ta Paul
  18. Does anyone have a sound file of the Applesauce side please? Also, does anyone know anything about the record at all? It isn't in JM's book and google doesn't turn up a lot either. Popsike shows a copy going through ebay UK last year for £112 but that's about it. https://www.popsike.com/RARE-DETROIT-NS-CHECKERS-Applesauce-Instru-Cosmo/300598106732.html Cheers Paul
  19. He must have a sticking 7 on his keyboard
  20. If it is Royal Mail then the buyer should make the claim with support from the seller. They are pretty tricky about paying out these days. Royal mail now require proof of value of the item which is quite difficult for the seller to produce, they will only refund the seller what they paid for the item not what they sold it for. The buyer can use his paypal or ebay or whatever invoice to prove value.
  21. I spent a day in Rooky's and bought 2 records, they thought I was barking. They wouldn't let me at the new unsorted stock but there were 45s everywhere. Look in the phone book and there are a good few record shops away from Haight, if you are there for a while they would be worth a visit. Have a look on ebay for sellers in the area and ask if you can visit. One last thing; don't walk to Haight, I did - it wasn't that far and it was really nice until I got about half a mile away. I went up a hill and down the other side was the sleaziest bit of SF I saw all week! Thankfully everyone was so out of it that it took them some time to decide I would be worth robbing and luckily a bus turned up and stopped as I waved frantically.
  22. Isn't there a really good flip side to "Never Can Say Goodbye" that has been played - not sure if its the UK or US (or both)? Maybe I dreamt it
