  1. I thought most of the dancers had come from acting school and been shown how to dance "Northern" at regular dance classes. That's what the web site says anyway. Its only after that that they started attending events isn't it? Elaine's film really must be authentic if people now think that those in it have been plucked from "the scene"
  2. Language is a wonderful thing, thanks for explaining what you actually meant when you said something completely different.
  3. Popsike is a bit different as it shows you what records have actually sold for and usually gives an idea of condition. You can also trend prices with popsike because it gives you ebay prices over a number of years. Any silly prices show up straight away. JM's guide gives an idea of what he has sold records for or what he believes mint copies should sell for, at least that is my understanding. Presumably his prices include VAT so take 20% off what's in his guide to get somewhere near an opinion of a realistic private sale price for a MINT record. When it comes down to it the price of a record is what you can sell it for and that changes on a daily basis. There are so many variables that affect the price of a record it is amazing that anyone can give a guide to them.
  4. It's getting worse. The refund is still "pending" with paypal until 20th August so this tw*t has had my money for nearly 2 months. When I email him and query this he just replies with "Thank You Paul"
  5. Too much probably. There seems to be one a month on eBay. I bought it ages ago (late 90's) of JM for £70 then got four off ebay for much less in the next couple of years then the price went silly. I doubt it is as rare as people think, its that "in demand" thing again.
  6. The bidding looks very odd; the winner put a bid in 3 days before the end then he is outbid with 3 hours to go. From there his bids are all on the last day at regular intervals whereas the second bidders bids are nearly all automatic bids. So the winner sat at his PC and kept bidding (after he was outbid by the second bidder) whilst the second bidder put an early high bid on it about 3 hours before the end. I bet the bidder that came second is saying "phew" whilst the winner just has deep pockets and doesn't care. If the second bidder gets a second chance offer I think he might turn it down!
  7. Quality record, always loved this, think I have it on Volt.
  8. The Admirations - Wait Til I Get To Know You
  9. "Interplanetary Championship" Err..... who exactly is the opposition? I'll give 2/1 on the martians, slippery bastards all of them.
  10. Word of warning. I bought a record off this seller and paid for it over 3 weeks ago. I've just chased it up as I haven't received it and he says "I can't find the record in my sales box." He has refunded me but I am somewhat p*ssed off that he hasn't even bothered to look for a record he's been paid for until the buyer follows it up 3 weeks later.
  11. The Parliaments is almost the perfect example of Detroit Northern Soul, it has absolutely everything a Detroit tune should have from the sound to everyone playing on it and right down to the writing credits. If it was rare it would be on everyone's wants list and most DJ play lists, same as Take it Baby would be. I also used to love Blanche Carter, still really like it as a fantastic Girlie tune, but I have no Wigan snobbery to speak of as I only went once. Just trying to balance the negative v positive slant of the thread
  12. Think I bought this after seeing it on a playlist and going to listen to it. This playlist I think: Liked "The Cold Letter" too but haven't found a copy yet But it does sound a bit too much like "I Can't Help Myself"
  13. Thanks If anyone wants to know what any of the records are, just drop me a pm. I'm not typing a track list out but this is due to laziness rather than any sort of intrigue.
  14. Judging by the recent thread; 99% of "funky northern soul"
  15. JM doesn't always get better prices though. The Tom Jones on Tower is a good example, if you have a look on popsike it has gone for nearly 6 times what was acheived on JM's auction this week. https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=tom+jones+chills+tower&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=&x=24&y=15 I agree with Pete, these auctions are in the public domain and are worthy of discussion so they will be discussed. Particularly when something not very rare reaches a silly price. We do the same thing with eBay so what is the difference? If it is tiresome to you why bother reading the thread? The auction results are available on JM's site for at least a week after they end.
  16. Not sure I quite follow that? In all auctions the bids go up in increments, generally the increments increase as the price goes up. The reason the prices go high is because people bid those amounts, nothing to do with the increments. If you want to bid you can see what you have to bid before you do. Personally I'm never surprised at the price of really rare records because some people will bid as much as they need to in order to obtain those records as they don't often come up for sale. What does surprise me is the prices fairly common records get bid up to just because they are thought to be "in demand". I could give recent examples but you just need to go through similar threads to this to see them. These are records that come up for sale regularly but then when auctioned seem to double in price. Very odd.
  17. Haven't typed a track list out I'm afraid, not anything ground breaking in there anyway
  18. About an hour and 25 records or so. Rate it or slate it - who cares https://soundcloud.com/paultp-1/newbuys180712
  19. Dunno, here's a listing from this year on popsike but I first saw it a few years ago listed by a reputable Belgian dealer (yes, there is such a thing!). https://www.popsike.c...0716417369.html here's one from 2008: https://www.popsike.c...0270709072.html Comparing the labels it looks like the french one showed in a post above. Its been popular on the popcorn scene for ages so it will have been booted over there as everything was, it seems.
  20. I think there's a very good Belgian boot of this as well. Don't have a scan, sorry.
  21. Burn him! Burn Him!
  22. Hurrah! I like that one
  23. ??? The total is £210 so he's knocking £20 off if you by them all ........... ........... why am I even explaining this? Got up too early again.
  24. You should be happy its just deaf and deformed being from Lincolnshire At least I didn't stray too far into the county wide inter-breeding issue ...........
  25. I still can't believe that nobody thought my Lincolnshire joke was funny ........... sad times indeed.
