Thanks. Hmmmm..... not a lot made the estimate. Putting 3 records together etc probably made people buy one lot of 3 to get one record which may have kept prices down. Forgot about that Jack Montgomery - drat! And the Minnie Jones which was a bargain. Must be gutting to see 300 LPs go for under £50

What a great thread, we don't have threads like this anymore. It even had the w*nker smiley Here it is (be quick and save it to your PC for future use!)

I wondered if it had been picked through, I looked at the catalogue and it seemed they had separated anything worth 50 or over and there wasn't much of that. On that basis, I figured there wouldn't be much in any of the boxes. I also wondered if it was representative of many collections? There were a lot of records but there didn't seem to be a lot of quality. Is there a sold prices list up anywhere?

Listened to the whole thing now - jeeez! Can you imagine dancing to it and not knowing what comes next? That has got to be dubbed on afterwards? The producer must have decided it needed something else and said "I know just the thing" If that guitarist had started up doing that live in the studio during the recording surely the rest of the band would have slapped him about and started again or summat? Maybe he just told them it was the new, new thing - trust me.

If you put the record and artist in the topic title you might have more luck TBH.

That's the first time I've heard that tune, sounds a really good tune. Unfortunately it contains one of my top 5 reasons not to buy a record which is - talking at the start. The copy for sale at 5K also has another 2 of my top 5 reasons for not buying a record - it is too expensive and it is knackered For any pedants, my other two top 5 reasons for not buying a record are; it mentions any sort of dance craze e.g. "do the monkey" and finally if it has any sort of awful lyric (the best example I can think of off the top of my head is from For Crying Out Loud where he sings "I was so happy/So ginger and snappy" - ugh!)

I like sniping because, as Pete says, you don't show your hand. Putting a bid on a record can show that it is worth buying, the higher a price gets the more people see a record. If it is hidden away in the 99p soup with zero bids that is fine by me. If you have already bid, somebody can just keep bidding until they outbid you, if you haven't bid nobody knows what your bid is going to be. The ridiculously large snipe bid is a ridiculously stupid tactic unless you have a ridiculous amount of money. It only needs two people to employ this tactic for one of them to pay well over the odds and be ridiculed on here. I have never seen a record that I "must have" at all costs, but then I don't have a ridiculous amount of money. If I don't win, I don't really care. Another one will come along eventually ................ usually.

He's had that cut himself, printed a label from a scan and stuck it on IMHO (or someone did the same thing and he sold it for them). I haven't seen a quantity of boots.

What Is Your Experience Of Recorded Delivery In Uk
paultp replied to Stevie's topic in Look At Your Box
The only decent thing about recorded delivery is that you have an easier claim process if the item has been lost as you at least have some tracking information to prove it hasn't been delivered. With first class you can only get proof of postage and you have to prove non-delivery (i.e. the receiver should claim). It's tempting to start claiming every time I have one of these iffy deliveries as according to the system the item is lost. The downside of this is p*ssing off sellers and getting the postie sacked though. I'm also too honest. -
How Long Does A Record Actually Last?
paultp replied to Northernjordan's topic in All About the SOUL
I think there's too many variables to come up with a standard time that a record will last. Needle condition is probably the most important but there is also the standard of pressing, material the record is made of, tone arm weight, anti-skate setting, condition of player generally, handling of record, storage conditions. One play on a crap deck with a poor stylus can ruin a record. -

Today's recorded delivery: I was sitting in my living room having my lunch and watching the news when I heard the post come through the letter box. (My recycling bins were still outside from yesterday.) -
 "are we grown up enough to understand disco" FFS that's no different to the patronising statement "If you don't like [insert current trend] you're a dinosaur" You like Disco, I don't - it is no reflection on anybody's maturity Don't patronise me or I'll turn this into an OVO thread

Nothing too out of the ordinary but it sounds good on my ipod: https://www.mixcloud.com/paultp/soulful-70s-plus/

These Old Shoes was about 10ft by 10ft and sloped. Anyone showing off ended up in the corner by the speaker. Think that should win this one

What Is Your Experience Of Recorded Delivery In Uk
paultp replied to Stevie's topic in Look At Your Box
The regular postie was really good, then I noticed she was getting larger and larger and eventually left to have her child. We then had all sorts of temporary loonies; stuff to the wrong house, things left on the doorstep, things too large for the letter box rammed halfway through, card left once with "Your Parcel has been left: under the car" written on it. It was an insured parcel from the states with the value written on it. I complained a couple of times but I was wasting my breath to be honest, just kept going on whilst I received letters saying "Sorry for any inconvenience, lessons have been learned etc etc" -
What Is Your Experience Of Recorded Delivery In Uk

Some come straight through the door, even when I'm in, sometimes a card is left. I'm on good terms with the regular postie but recently there seems to be a couple of others doing the same round sometimes. Nowhere near as bad as London though where I came home once to find a special delivery propped up against my front door for all to see! -

You're right, It was actually crushed at one corner. It was just a bit OCD.

Disturbed from my brekkie at 7.45 by the doorbell, I'm greeted by Royal Mail parcels with a square box for me. Is it more rubbish the missus has purchased online? No, its from the states so I open it up, neatly across the diagonal (well cushioned) is a smaller package. On removing said smaller package, I find that the seller must have met me before as he doesn't trust me to understand how to unpackage records. There is a complex system of tabs but happliy there are full instructions. I follow the first part and pull the tape off by pulling the paper tabs, thankfully I notice the instruction at the bottom of the card so I don't pull off that tab. Unfortunately, the top tab reveals a previously unseen word which alarms me for a while, but I press on. I open the the two pieces of card "like a book" and reveal the contents. Gingerly (like my movember) I follow the remaining instructions and pull the tape off the plastic sleeve. Just in case I can't fathom how to get the record out of the white paper sleeve the seller has left one last reassuring point. Quite the most disturbing package I have received for some time.

I don't know what that means and I've no idea whether you do. I just wanted to know what is in the book, I'll wait and look at somebody else's. -
The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
paultp replied to Goldsoul's topic in All About the SOUL
(Knowingly and reluctantly keeping the thread going, thus adding to the spin but a genuine question) What does each entry contain? Is it just a listing of the record with a label scan or is there some background and history to the record and artist? I'm not bothered about the order of the records (which is pretty subjective IMHO) but I'd be interested in the history behind each record. As well as stuff like who the artist was, where it was recorded, who else was involved, etc I'd also be interested in the history of the record on the scene i.e. who discovered it and when, first plays where was it big etc etc. Is any of that in there? -
I've sold it now, so can't trade it anymore. Cheers Paul

I saw it at City Screen in York, lovely film. The guy from the record shop was there and so were a good few of the customers featured in the film. Made me want to open a record shop
