The seller seems to have been pretty straight with this, describes it as a UK re-issue. You can't use the word bootleg on ebay. There seem to have been three or four dolts happy to pay a stupid amount for one of the most easy to recognise and well known boots. Bootlegs like this one are extremely well documented; on here and in Manships guide. Perhaps this is some sort of social responsibility thing where various moneyed folk have taken pity on poor record dealers and decided to distribute their wealth to the needy?

Has The Bottom Fallen Out Of Cheaper Record Sales?
paultp replied to John Moffatt's topic in Look At Your Box
I still occasionally buy records for me but have stopped buying records to sell on (unless I spot an absolute bargain) because they are so hard to sell these days. There is some truth in the fact that some people will pay £50 for a record but if you price it at a tenner nobody wants it. The arse fell out of the market for low priced records when people decided that good records were expensive and records that anyone could own weren't worth having. Good rare records tend to be expensive, but the "in-demand" factor inflates the price of many common records, it took me a while to learn to sell the common records whilst they are in demand and buy a copy back when the inevitable avalanche of copies occurs. Ace Spectrum at over a ton? Betty Swann, Kiss Your Arse Goodbye at £250? Sell! I wouldn't dream of paying £1000 or more for a record, I'd have to win the lottery before doing that as I'm too tight and it is just a hobby, I think there is only a relatively small number of collectors who do this with any regularity. There is another small group who are just buying their way into DJing but they tend to end up paying top wack for records as they are not prepared to wait and have no depth. The top records will always be a high price as they are good, rare and in-demand. Top high value records that hold their value are also extremely good for hiding money as unless you know, one 45 looks the same as another. Expensive records can be used in money laundering too - buy them cash, stick them on ebay, payment by paypal, paypal to bank account = money laundered. All will keep prices high. I still think JJ Barnes - Please Let Me In is one of the best records about, I ought to upgrade my copy whilst it is still cheap -

paultp replied to Kirsty S's topic in Record Wants
Hi Kirsty, https://www.paulsrecords.co.uk/shop/jesse-fisher-youre-not-loving-a-beginner/ I've put a sale price on it until the end of the week, it was £135 but its down to £120. Thanks Paul -
I went once about 75ish, thought it was shite.

For those who haven't tried yet,I peeled the sticker off the front and it came off cleanly. Box looks much better. I'm not taking any responsibility for anyone else's attempt though lol :-)

Got this for my birthday today, all present and correct (0210/2000) but the label on the Marvin Gaye is a it bubbled and has some extra bits of paper on it like a cover was not fully removed. Well chuffed though and might buy another to sit on until the price goes up or keep unopened :-))

Plenty of US sellers won't post to Italy or France because of the numbers that don't turn up. Pretty sure it has been raised here before and is common knowledge. I've sold a few records to Italy but I do tend to try and find out if people are known to soulies over there before sending, and will only send fully insured.
-
Actually, there's one on ebay for £150 with a bid so I stand corrected.
-
Is it really? I thought this was about a ton. Or was there something special about this one (other than writing on the label )?

A couple of LPs and the results of me blowing my record buying fund at the weekend: Carla Thomas - Memphis Queen I had one with a good cover and sh*t record (thanks CM) and this one has a good record and sh*t cover, so one for me and one for ebay The Soul Stirrers - The Judgement Bought for Don't You Worry - never gonna get the single! Hytones - Bigger and Better Delegates of Soul - I'll Come Running Back Cynthia and The Imaginary Three - That's What I Am :D

I'm either going senile (v possible) or this has been moved!

They were a way for venue owners to hire out their venue outside normal licensing hours. It was a case of a demand matching a need, most groups/scenes would want a bar at the venue, the soul scene didn't. Most venues couldn't serve alcohol legally after 2 am so shut when their license finished. A crowd that didn't want a bar and were happy to wait unti 1 am to start enabled venue owners to get a second set of takings on the night. Wigan is a classic example.

Wants might be a good place for this

My hands finally reached to the distant depths of my pockets and my record buying bank account is now somewhat lighter. My dinghy will also be somewhat slower next year as I've spent the money that I'd put aside for a new sail. New sails will always be available though 3 out of 4 isn't too bad and its my birthday soon.
-
That is such a valid point, endless funds would take nearly all the fun out of it. I tend not to have wants, I sometimes search things out or wait for something to come up at the right price. But occasionally things come up that i would really like at a price I think is good. I'd love to have a Walter and the Admerations but I'd never spend that much on a record. It would be so dull to be able to just buy anything you wanted.

I was speaking metaphorically :-)
-
No, these are set sale at decent prices, I'm just a tightwad :-) So far I've bought one, one's been sold while I've been umming and aahing and I'm squirming about the other two. Damn this Yorkshire blood, it runs so cold at the thought of parting with money!
-
Why is it that I haven't seen a record I want to buy for months and months (other than those in the thousands of pounds bracket) then all of a sudden 4 appear in the space of a couple of days? My Yorkshire blood has run cold at the thought of buying them all at once!

A few things this week: Shirley Karol - Just To Make You Happy - Dakar A spare copy picked up cheap Tommy Good - Baby I Miss You - Gordy Always wanted a copy but never wanted to spend the money - this one was £22 Buddy Lamp - Next Best Thing - D-Town Had this before but traded/sold it - might keep this one Last but not least: Lee David - Temptation Is Calling My Name - Columbia Issue Bought this to sell on but unfortunately when it turned up it has one of those lines on it that you can see on both side of the styrene (I.e. a crack), its really tight and can't be heard but I don't think I could sell it for what I wanted in this condition so its going back.

Most of the 40+ mods I've seen (and its been a while) looked fairly cool and normally put their own bit of individuality into it; tailored suit, exclusive shirt or whatever. Fat men in vests have never looked cool .. ever. I see nothing wrong with it either, each to their own, I just think it all looks a bit odd. While I'm on the subject, what's with the pocket flaps on skirts? never seen that before, is it a new-retro thing?

Didn't notice it was the UK one , think mine is the US (must look for it)

Is the Elegant Sound of the Royalettes LP really worth £142 Does anyone want mine? (hoping I haven't sold it)
-
Someone at Royal Mail has stolen them as they entered the country. Happened to me before with stuff sent from the states but not sent tracked all the way. They are tracked to the point of exit from the originating country then not tracked until signed for. Amazing how many of these apparently get "lost" between the originating country and the UK. Someone has obviously worked out thatthey can swipe them and nobody can trace where it has been done. Shit service and not worth the money.
