  2. He's class - Sam Cooke Inspired. Apparently he was into Usher and similar shite until very recently. He was The Guardian's "One to Watch" over the weekend. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/feb/22/leon-bridges-vintage-soul-one-to-watch This record is beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0hXaQvwIgw

  5. Cristina Alonso is one, from the boiler club. The thread reflects the male dominance of the scene and sound, but those ladies who are in the game are pretty good, eh!
  6. Thats less of a list and more of a paragraph - that was hard word, ha! I'll take JAMES BROWN - Get up get into it get involved, please. Thanks. EDIT: Note for those potentially interested in the JB record, I cancelled my order because I found my copy, so possibly still available. Sorry for the fuss Rob, Best, Gary
  7. For me, its Malayaka. Every opportunity to have her play/hear her play I try. There is a great vid on Youtube of her double-checking with Soul Sam and she's ahead of the game, in my opinion. Little link to a pretty old article now RE the Manchester euro soul weekender and the rationale there was to book woman first. Often the best sets of the weekender because they're not trying to out-do anyone, they just have their own very intuitive groove. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/articles/news-soul/manchester-european-weekender-look-forward-26-27-may-2013-r2688
  8. I knew why people did it for sleeves - but to do it to the record itself, you'd think that drilling a hole in it was a bit extreme. The paint seems more viable. I must admit, I didn't read the replies properly either. So I thought a 'cut out record' was a specific 'cut' of a record e.g. a 'cut' that was run off more cheaply by the distributers due to demand, and in tern, couldn't be retuned. Not realising that the 'cut out' was the same as the drill hole...dear me, haha! Thank Fu
  9. of course - I knew I was reading too much into it. I should go away and have my lunch before I dig any bigger of a hole!
  10. Here comes a question that no doubt will later come back to haunt me... whats a 'cut-out record'
  11. Why? Why do so many records have drill holes? What was the purpose/function/logic behind it Was it commonly done (on the grand scheme of things) Was it just specific labels...was it done by the label or the distributor? Never something I ever throught about, but I took a few records off the shelf today and out of a handful, i'd say a fair few had holes.
  12. I'll take the Volumes please, Best, Gary
  13. Hi folks, after a nice copy of this please. Thanks, Gaz.
  14. I love the sentiment of this tune. *sob, sob*
  15. Found it: https://www.kendalcalling.co.uk/artists/view/chippy-nicholls-and-tobin-lochrie/ looked like...
  16. I was at Kendal Calling a few years ago and this was going on in a huge tent. MUD EVERYWHERE and people just stomping around. Same guy too, Tobin he's called, I think. Imagine it... a FIELD full of MUD!... no Dance floor...doing this in MUD!! arggghhhhh *head explodes*
  17. Ah, I thought this thread was about that super rare Ohio soul group, 'Federal Express' I went to pick a record up from a collection depot and I enquired about an import/duty tax I had to pay. The lad said its total pot luck if you are picked to pay customs or not. I've only ever had to pay it the once so far (on said occasion), but maybe its now built into the eBay processing system. I got an email from them saying I'm now part of some eBay currier service, the one Dave Thorley is always (and seemingly, rightly) complaining about. I've not bought a record from eBay since I got that email, so maybe that has something to do with it too.
  18. First thing that sprung to mind:
  19. All sorted and thankfully without much stress. He just sent me the cash back - all very odd. Said he couldn't post it, maybe he didn't actually have the record... Cheers!
  20. I was reading open culture earlier (which is a great resource) and I came across this little article which was very interesting if you're a Stones / Soul Fan. Anyway it reminded me of another amazing item on the web, MC's isolated vocal!!! Many may have heard it before, but its just spine tingling! Makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck every time without fail. Added to that, she's one Kool Kat! On a more tragic note, I never realised the loss of her unborn child was, in a round-about way, blamed on her participation in this recording session - basically because she gave it so much welly! Article here -https://www.openculture.com/2013/06/mick_jagger_tells_the_story_behind_gimme_shelter.html THE VOICE!
  21. I sold mine for £200ish But I think thats what its worth. £400 is way too much, but as I said originally, £700 is now deemed cheap.
  22. I sold mine for way less 3 years ago. Think our mate Maxwell, Adam, has had two copies and sold them for much less too - they seem to have gone through the roof. Get a copy go the New Holidays - Maybe So...but better ;)
  23. ...'given the recent crazy prices sellers have been asking, recently.' someone wanted a grand for it a few months ago! And it was on Discogs for £999.50 a few weeks ago.
