  1. Deep Disco - good term. I like the term and the record!
  2. It almost has the same structure as Manchester...or very possible a future Manchester . We did a casual day affair and a meeting point for all weekender goers to catch up with fiends from all over UK/europe and listen to the amazing Greatstone guys, then a nighter, then a normal dayer/night event followed by the magical monday - but the whole thing was prob a bit too long in my opinion. DJ roster was defo not the same old, same old though but then you run the risk of not getting a mighty footfall.
  3. quote name='SallieJane' timestamp='1341443277' post='1770251'] I would really like to know if there is an appetite for a rare/underplayed/progressive weekender in the UK. Yes. re appetite, its not so much a question of hunger for rare/underplayed sounds as that is a progressive arm of the scene which has been pioneered for decades (and I saw the discussions on funk-edged stuff etc which is an example of it and is more related to a discussion on quality/personal taste) and people do want rare/underplayed/progressive. More appropriately, it is about peoples desire/hunger to try something which might be unconventional. The music at Manchester was all of the above. Each DJ played an outstanding selection of rare/underplayed records and the progressive element was in the structure (double decking), choice of DJ's (finding a good new DJ is like finding a great under played record and its about giving people a chance - Henning Boogaloo this year, Matt Fox last year and Leona / Adam Topping from the UK). Equally, the mixture of attendees, all of whom themselves could be considered progressively minded because they took a punt and invested time/energy/money into something different/new, and the feedback was great either for the weekend or the day visitors. Its more about how people choose to consume it or maybe a case of who is providing it, rather than issues for demand etc
  4. Sorted now - Big thanks to NZ soul for the contact.
  5. You've played it right Jodie. All above board and very considered.
  6. Jumpin *no messin* Joan - give it to me straight!
  7. I posted this on Ste's F.B wall (well similar theme) but..I think its interesting and hopefully they'll be a good cross-section of attendee's to reflect the numerous nuances of the scene and its participants, only because I always worry these events are populated by the main stakeholders whose 'voice' we're are already familiar with. Increasingly the scene is linked to memory and nostalgia, but what about innervation and the future (the social media element aside - because you don't have to be young to use social media). Easy for me to say as I'm younger than most and I've grown 'into' the scene rather than 'with it' but i'd be curious to see what would be said for 'youthful participation and agency' beyond buying records for instance - and that in-itself is a whole other topic. should be good!
  8. Hello - after a clean copy of "What Condition My Condition Is In" Thanks very much, Gary.
  9. if I can coax my scooter chum out of the garage i'll do a spot. I'll scoot down, have a look about and play a few for a laugh. pm your number and i'll keep you posted. I can not promise but if the weather is good I'd be on the scooter anyway
  10. Hello, 1 Stone Roses ticket for sale. First night of their reunion and homing gig at Heaton Park, Manchester. I'll take £70 in accordance with recent eBay sales and that'll cover my booking fees and postage etc. Postage included in price. Thanks very much Gary
  11. I said 'soulful' - not soul music - you can have soulful content and not be soul
  12. Great film! Wilson Love - Funny Money too, has to be one of my all time favs!
  13. I've not read alllll the post so this might have been said, but I think its parents living vicariously through their children. I say this only because, as a 'fashion choice' I imagine most young people (I say most before I am lambasted) would not choose to wear that unless they were coerced, prob at an early age into 'that way of life'. I also depends on your cultural capital, I'm pretty young, given the general age of the scene but I worship at a broad church musically and culturally, however, if, for instance, you've been brought up on oldies, your dad wore huge trousers and vests to go out every weekend, and you see that behaviour as archetypal then you're inclined to adopt that to some extent. I doubt very much any youth dancing in bags has made a independently informed decision because you'd at least have to ask someone where to buy those trousers! As someone said, many pages back, its a shame that they think that is the 'norm'. I was going to round that off with an optimistic 'at least they're doing their own thing' but I don't think they are...
  14. My alerts are not working - I didn't see any of these messages...not that they were much use if that isn't soulful then then what is, and even if its not, it's still dope! Can't see anyone having one though so back to the bottom of a long list for this one... case closed - Jazzman copy it is then...
  15. Does anyone have a copy of I believe Miracles for sale -Mark Capanni on Capitol Best, Gary
  16. Yes - good observation. I've seen those before, didn't think they were demos though. There is a 'graphite' effect grey one there too and also numerous issues where details on the native Indians head vary from face colour to the pattern on the feather. Very interesting. Also there is that Fryers yellow issue which I don't know much about. I've never seen one for sale anyway.
  17. I'd be keen to see the white one out of interest. Ive just got the orange copy without the Indian head and I'd never seen that particular which is why I asked.
  18. Ah very interesting. Cheers guys I googled the images but I didn't think of Popsike! Thanks G
  19. Hi Eddy - I meant specifically for I'm a Good Woman? I've edited the thread since your initial post because I wasn't very specific ;) All the ones I've seen have the native Indian head on except mine - didn't know if there was different demo issues in orange etc. Thanks
  20. Ive just just been looking at barb Lynn demos for 'Im a good woman' (orange label). Is there two demo issues o this record; one orange with the native Indian tribesman and one exactly the same in orange without the tribesman log on? Best G
  21. A nice clean copy of this please - doesn't have to be EX and also a reasonable price too Thanks, Gary.
