  1. Hello after a copy of the Alice Clark Album - self titled. best gary
  2. I've played this a few times already (taste of Honey / Con.Soul) - I had a panic because I did have a copy and thought I lost it but as usual it turns up somewhere random in the house.
  3. cheers chaps - i forgot to come back and check this! atb, gary
  4. I'm after a nice clean copy of Sandra Wright - wounded woman LP please, thanks Gary
  5. Geography aside, I guess the fact of the matter is, if you had to put a football team together to represent young soulies who are contributing (taking it forward for future generations in a significant way-e.g. Buying decent records, putting decent nights on) then you'd struggle to get 11 on the pitch. Yes, a few young guys get to play rare records at the occasional big venues but that's mainly** to a 40plus age group. Plus young, Decent rare collectors are few-and-far between because knowledge isn't instantaneous and the economics. Equally, i'm unaware of any young female DJ's and a well attended micro oldie scene in the N.west, and a mini mod scene in LDN isn't enough. With the lack of en-mass travel (because there isn't enough of us anyway) except for the Wigan crowd, I, like Callum would rather go abroad and make a holiday out of it. And because the numbers are not too strong, they'll need to be some unity but by the time that happens we'll all have had kids/mortgages and the topic will start again. 1 big event per city and a few select weekenders, but I suspect it'll become city based, reflecting the decline of working mans clubs and the demographic of interest.
  6. My birthday is the 5th of October so that's my weekend away sorted! Soulastatic, sweden this year, Hamburg Soul Weekender the year before! Perfect timing as usual.
  7. Little Xmas bump.... best wishes, Gary.
  8. Outside of Manchester there is a really strong and young mod/soul scene. Some big ticket records in with those guys too, but as I said at the very top of the thread, I don't think there is enough young people coming through to sustain the level we have now...or maybe there is too much currently going on, and after some years it'll be reduced down to maybe 1 big night per city per month like in europe. It'll also require those getting into it now to have progressive ears and listen to rare/underplayed and equally, the young, rare scene to embrace oldies - they defo won't survive apart from one another...in my opinion.
  9. There are so many variables to consider when you look at 'participation'. Passively (not buying records/putting on events) then yes. But I would say in 15 years time it'll all look very different: some folk will have moved on due to age & those taking it up now in their 20's will have families and thry're priorities will change (time/finances/interests). I also think the OVO policy will dissipate.
  10. Well I think he was asking for feedback from events which are "outside the UK"? and not the opinion of folk from the UK...which is why I edited my response, however I might be wrong and misunderstood the question. Not that i'm picking on you Brett you're points are totally valid. furthermore, since you did post your response as you have, I feel confident enough to say what I initially intended... Make a judgement based on demand, thats the main thing, or do something with an element of risk, but which is also a specific twist/take' on what you feel represents your idea of soul. if it doesn't work, then at least you've tried. The event, however big or small, has to represent you and your values thats the main thing, and with that in mind, people will hopefully appreciate it, because they'll see themselves as being part of something and feel part of something that they can invest their time into...if that makes sense. Pick the right DJ's for you and the right policy, not just a blue=print belonging to other events, that what I'm trying to say - every good event is a little different. Hamburg for instance has those awesome boat trips and the chill-day session...
  11. Have a go, and see what happens. That's my view (but don't spend a fortune) .
