  1. It's always been a travelling scene and I think it's a good thing the majority of the nighter action is in the North. If it were an even split or the majority were in the midlands/south, then perhaps the 'northern soul' tag would be redundant. I couldn't bear that. Northerners have always had the best musical taste in the country, so in part it's best the way things are I spose?
  2. 6am finish would be fantastic mate. No disrespect to the current venue, it's great. However if it were at the old venue with a 6am finish I think it really would be worth it, as the size of the place/dancefloor would definitely warrant folks traveling down from the north (not to mention south/midlands) on a regular basis.
  3. Speak for yerself ducks.. Agree about not enough nighters in the South though. Lets face it, it's Northern soul for a reason innit?
  4. Thought this thread had gone for good! ps, some of the points raised in post 1 are complete cods! Either that or the vid I was watching was that of an oldies night?
  5. I did a thread on here back in 2005 entitled 'Northern northern soul v Southern northern soul'. Wanted to post a link as there were some relevant and interesting comments. Worryingly though topics from that far back are now no longer available..

Oops that you'd already said about WD? Sure you'd scrolled down and seen the vinyl anyway ... Anyone got a grand (or two) kicking about?

Vinyl looks good though. Label looks water damaged.
  21. I don't think it is Kev. It's good soul music being played afterall and that's something worth shouting about. To say nowt the whole way through a set is a bit cold imvho. I introduce every other one. Be amusing (if poss) brief and to the point. Never say "less ave yer" ! "Thanks to Dave for the last hour, you got me for the next and er, as usual, a few oldies a few new stuff and of course for those who whunnit, a few modern sounds" ... "Kicking off with this one, Rufus Lumley and I'm standing". Danny Everard - The Fleet c.1985

  23. Spot on, just what I was thinking. To come on here and spout all that barbed attitude without having a great big sorry up front is so selfishly piss poor it beggars belief. Remind me to avoid any further events put on by these charmers

Taken from Winstanley homepage .. Russ is also music consultant to the highly successful Wigan CasinoPlay,' Once Upon A Time In Wigan' which ran in June at Bolton's OctagonTheatre and will be turned into a multi-million pound feature film in2009. Hasn't he got that rather badly wrong Paul?
