  1. Samuel Cook (January 22, 1931 - December 11, 1964) One of the greatest sadly lost 46 years ago today. R.I.P Sam Cooke.
  2. 43 years, geez! I was sixteen months old.. Along with Sam Cooke & Jackie Wilson, I would rate Otis in the top 3 all time greatest soul singers. Has anyone seen that Stax documentary where his brother said about people waiting in line to see Otis at the talent shows, but his manager had to listen on his car radio across the street because he was white. To hear his brother and former manager talk about his death was choking, the brother broke down, his manager said that he contemplated suicide at times after his passing. 27 years old.. What more tunes could have been. Rest in peace Otis Ray Redding, Jr.
  3. Oh that is worrisome. Lets hope she can/will make a full recovery.
  4. what was the record (out of interest)?
  5. Christ Compton?!!!! We've all heard stories about drive bys etc in that neighbourhood. Feel for him trying to raise cash and skip out of Dodge with their lives, Jesus! Must be hell for Ady too, your kid & grandkid the otherside of the world with all that going on. I believe Tommy is a stand up guy and this recent activity is not his usual practice. As Ady has said it can't sit easy with him. Best case scenario they stay settled where they are and start sorting folk out with refunds.
  6. Dual accounts on here by the looks of things as well (bit naughty) - Original /profile/2018-tommy/ Maybe fallen on tough times, website's now defunked https://www.tommysrecords.com/ Shame, would have said Tommy was/is a good egg. Sure Ady would have something to say about all this.
  7. Thing is Jeff, you wrote the script, you know how picky these people can be and with enough cheese to keep Wotsits going through the after life, what did you expect? That said I thought the script was pretty good and was surprised how many funnies there were in it.
  8. Lou Saxon Music Video & Entertainment 32 Roberts St Mastic, NY 11950 631-289-3100
  9. Arranged By - Lou Doboe aka Lou Saxon Producer - Mike Szymanski (2) Written-By - Mike Szymanski (2)
  10. Source: https://funky16corners.lunarpages.net/?p=432 Aside from the music, the first thing I noticed was that it appeared that the record (or at least the label, Phoof) was from Long Island, NY, affixed with the snappy slogan: "Featuring the Bayport Echo Sound of Long Island". Both sides of the record are excellent in their own way. 'Black Power' opens with catchy, fast moving guitar riff, followed by some heavy drums and sharp horns. Mr Coit drops in with a rough and ready, Eddie Floyd-esque vocal. The lyrics are - if not exactly as militant as the title might suggest - certainly topical and powerful, and might be even more so if the composition thereof weren't credited to someone named 'Mike Szymanski'. Kenny got a demo of this from the Plinston for a fiver. Gotta be a wise shopper these days!
  11. Golly if that don't beat all! Could have got a Stardust copy for a tenner and stuck an ABC label on it. A bot is aboot is a boot.. Not a bad record, but outside my top 50...
  12. On my doorstep, how very dare you! Only one a in Stansted btw.. ps, Think personally I prefer Darlene's number..
  13. Not able to hear anything unfortunately. That link does not work.
  14. Would have said about 60, 70 quid for the UK demo.
  15. Think Shifty may have had a pic sleeve a while back.
  16. Yeah I thought that!
  17. Anyone have an idea of current value for the Alfie 12"?
  18. Nice avatar there mate! Is that the spare? My bogus one brought you out of the woodwork then? All good clean fun!
  19. Sounds like you were sniped mate. Remember passing on a Ernie Washington - Lonesome Shack (CHATTAHOOCHEE) from Fingers for a couple of hundred quid VG+. Would have meant leaving the venue for a far away cashpoint and I just couldn't be arzed. Regretted it ever since..
  20. Remember a club called The Car Wash, somewhere in London years ago - The regular funky inhabitants were exiting as our lot were turning up, though inevitably a few pish takers were ligging about. I don't remember the record played but clearly remember Keb's intro... "If you don't like soul music, fook off"!
  21. I think it's been an interesting thread in all honesty. Bit miffed we've not seen evidence of the existance of the JDM Tower issue. However the existance is beyond doubt and the seller has worked the system well - had his hand bitten off at half price and what buyer would want a scan posted, promting "I'll give you double" pm's.. A scan will turn up one day.
  22. No you're not Nev. Spot on posting mate. Laughing here Dave. Chinese whispers etc - you've gone from someone who had an issue, to someone who'd seen a scan of an issue, to non of the above! Don't get the wrong idea about SS, still the same bunch of good northern helpful folk as ever. We were only miffed cos we couldn't see a scan. Paul sold it 2 mins after listing it and if the buyer didn't want a scan posted then furry muff as they say - mystery solved. Get it right Ian Pete-s (mod) quoted me, I posted Paul's activity as I was miffed he was schtuming up. All is clear now, he didn't break any rules. I don't think Nev is a twat, nor is it necessary for you to refer to him as such. He was just in the dark about it, like everybody else. The owner of this ultra rare tower issue know's about this thread. be a sport like so many of our mates are and show us what we wanna see, there's a good lad!
  23. I agree with what you say Nige. I don't doubt Paul's credentials, enough reputable people have vouched for him. I think this was handled poorly, very poorly. Ian Seaman seems to be rejoicing that it's gone and no scan will be forthcoming. Scan or no scan, yeah Ebay would have been a better bet imo.
