  1. You know what, that is quite similar also - but the one I'm thinking of is more doo wop with the prolonged "I said oh - oh - oh - oh" etc..
  2. This track from the Barrino Brothers played on the radio last night is what made me think of it - similar type of vibe, but earlier & less funky.. Anyone??? Can't be that rare!
  3. No not a one thus far - phil shields to the rescue!
  4. Can't think of the title or artist, but it's a Walter & the Admerations esq type track, that goes something along the lines of "I say oh, oh, oh oh, how it feels to be free/me" or similar.. The "oh oh's" are prolonged & rising in harmony - maybe an obscurity, maybe not. Any ideas Soul Source?
  5. Don't always stay to the end as much anymore. Sometimes can mean having a bit of a life the next day and not being inside a bubble etc. Also some places, the later it gets, the dearer the beer.
  6. Cheers, I couldn't find it. Mod merge as & when then.
  7. Couldn't think why it wouldn't be, but searched back 3 odd pages.. Maybe a mod merge-a-roony ...
  8. Don't know where Pete's thread went (binned?) But this caught my eye - cracking read I'm sure and very reasonably priced! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-Autobiography-Jimmy-Nail-/150769081896?pt=Non_Fiction&hash=item231a899e28#ht_1432wt_1139
  9. Good thread Russ! The Dome used to finish at 3 and that was a soul night. Bisley anniversary finishes at 4 and is billed as a mini nighter. Hmm that extra hour makes all the difference! '8 till late' means 8 till 12, but they'd like you to think it finishes at 1 or later. Make it plain!
  10. Apologies to Ady, for the xfire cd insinuation with winstanley. He played his cd's elsewhere.

  12. Makes me feel better about selling the Ringleaders for 15 quid seeing that!
  13. Aye that's it, been hearing those rumours for 30 years.
  14. Are you talking about what I think you're talking about?
  15. Jesus. You wouldn't get a hundred and sixty quid for the LP!
  16. Was going to mention that point, but had already been chastised for bringing Winstanley into the argument. Save for Sir Richard Searling and maybe one or two others, IL it would seem, is one of the few big shot 70's promoters to still DJ and not CDJ - see the difference?
  17. What you seem to be failing to grasp is this is a cd v ovo thread and whilst talk of 'fresh, soulful dance' etc is all fine and dandy, it doesn't excuse the fact of playing cd's to a paying crowd.
  18. As stated, he did at Crossfire and got hauled over the coals for it.
  19. Are you trying to get me in your car soul perv? No in all seriousness, the punter could hear the tune in the car on cd, hell he could dance in the car park if he wanted and not get a tug from the SP!
  20. Certainly! See below.
  21. Well they'd best be advised they're going to get whispered about, here, now!
  22. On cd? This is the same as Dustbin Stanley playing a cd set at Crossfire. The magnitude of my northern soul fame allows me to play cd's as I discovered most of these tracks in the first place. That's bollocks, you play real one's - you are real. Play copies and you're a shadow of your former self, whoever you think you used to be!
  23. Jimmy at work said someone played the Snake on R6 the other day. I had to alert him to this thread and one of the funniest things (above) I've ever read on Soul Source.

  25. I thought from the topic title there were passes available to see the great man. Sadly Chalky's Facebook posting told me otherwise. Sad loss and another soul great shuffles off this mortal coil.
