  1. Got a mate that was asking who did the original version of Shine On as used in this (awful) remix version.. Any ideas?
  2. Youngsters and or newcomers would get a slightly rose tinted view with most of the feedbacks we leave tis true. Partly due to the sentiments held by Chalky's Nan that we all/most have, but also (perhaps) the thinking of I'm not the kind of chump that would blow a load of dough and travel hundreds of miles for something that's crap - I know better etc.. That said we've all been to crap do's. The way to read between the lines with look backs is, where's there's 2+ pages of comments with everyone raving about it - it was probably good - verses 17 replies and "numbers were a bit down, but all the dj's gave a good account of themselves" = it was crap. Not just the written word either, it's a brave man or women that'll take a pic of three dancers on a massive floor - more that lot huddled in the corner - if any!
  3. Dayer would have to be St Ives where I heard the Pyramid for the first time. Never forget that. Nighter would have to be either the 100 Club, the one where they played Stewart Ames when I came back in when Shifty was still there. Or the Middleton with the Willinghams upstairs, which was my first nighter with our lass.
  4. Cheers Chalks.
  5. I've only ever been aware of the RCA issue take - unsure if below version was an album release or something?
  6. Rob Messer Pete Hulatt Ted Massey Irish Greg
  7. Well what a let down! They name checked northern soul once or twice and that was it! I thought they were going to remodel the restaurant Casino style, red crushed velvet, a dim uv and talc ont floor ..
  8. "Alex Polizzi injects some northern soul into a hotel in Wigan" According to Sky. Tonight Ch5 9.00pm. https://www.channel5..../the-bellingham
  9. This may be true. However like Billy Watkins there are hidden rude messages in Just Loving You. You listen, 2 minutes and 17 secs in the below clip, "such a tit head" ... You've gotta respect that?
  10. lol indeed D! Talking of respect, look at your post count/contribution to the site and look at that of him that you quote. Some of the records listed on this thread are howlers. Some I can't believe they would diss. Joe Jama? Anyway each to their own and in essence that's it isn't it? All about the soul, less about the bickering...
  11. Well I didn't know that. I'll have to give it another listen out of curiosity now. Won't make it any less of a turd, but yeah..
  12. C.O.D's - She's Fire. Clues in the name, it's cods! Billy Watkins - The Iceman. "Any ice, today lady" No thanks.
  13. It's a bit like saying who are the greats among the members of the Temptations. All I'll say is Butch is David Ruffin, but Mick Smith is Paul Williams.
  14. Rest in peace Bob.
  15. The Temptations (1965 line up).
  16. Nearly a year on and it's still there! He's had offers though.. Fiver? https://www.ebay.com/itm/northern-soul-HOUSTON-MILES-Remind-Me-Of-You-VICTAN-M-/110672848040?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item19c49da4a8#ht_500wt_969
  17. Maybe if general consensus is excepting this genre, we can lobby for a re-brand - 'Funky-Soul-Source.co.uk' ..
  18. 104 posts in, I'm liking Benji's thus far. Funk is funk, soul is soul. Funky soul isn't soul. I remember Keb saying at the Putney Soul Party in 88' when discussing the merits of Bobby Valentin over Stanley Mitchell. Something about "that latin shite". Pure Soul was the order of the day.
  19. Don't get me wrong the site still has it's worth or we wouldn't use it every day. Just you'll see someone that supposedly has 500k in the bank, phone them and they've gone tits up.. Anyway, I'm getting a little off topic there, forgive me.
  20. We use that site at work every day. Info is at least a year out of date.
  21. Those figures aren't reliable.
