  1. Think this was Hand it over - diff version. Only subtle difference being the delayed "let - me - know - where - I stand - tell me now" etc. Subtle but great all the same.
  2. I remember me Necky, Smudge and Nige went on a coach from Bishop's Stortford, via London Victoria to Leicester to go to that nighter and . . . . it had been cancelled! Well miffed. Always remember this copper saying we'd be best off spending a night in the cells, cos with our Southern accents we'd be likely to get chinned on the streets of Leicester on a Saturday night at chucking out time! Thankfully some other dudes we knew had rolled up in cars, so we went home with them and the high point was greasy grub at Watford Gap services Central England Soul Club though remember it well, still have the membership somewhere. Loughborough Town Hall etc, Tommy Navaro played three times in one night
  3. Strewth! A dayer, a warm up and a nighter? Hats off to you Karen! Cheers
  4. As I've just secured Monday off work (wer-hoo)! Thought of going the whole hog b4 100 club allnighter on Saturday. Never been to Valatone, does anyone know if it's still on?
  5. Bill Harris - Am I cold Am I hot....
  6. Roger Hatcher - Sweetest girl in the world. Max Cheese. By the way Ken, did you go to Sale after I left you in Bolton?
  7. Have to side with Chalky & Steve I think, although I understand the sentiment of dancing to a great tune regardless. If you have travelled miles to a top nighter and you have good reason to believe they are playing pressings I think you'd be right to be a bit miffed. That's the thing a local soul night might be okay, but a premier event, as Sam said it's more special and original music should perhaps reflect that. I was at a soul night not long ago, when after playing Frank Wilsons' Do I love you (indeed I do) the DJ said "who cares if it's not the original" and a voice from behind me shouted "we do"!
  8. Saw Ray perform at the 100 Club, he was sensational. Haven't felt this saddend by this sort of news since Edwin Starr died.
  9. Not forgetting Hal Miller's version of course!
  10. Youngblood Smith - You can split. great dancer!
  11. Chalky would you let us in on where you downloaded the Nurons from? Do tell
  12. Jackie Wilson/Betty Everett
  13. Ah Jimmy Norman, class!!!

  15. Always amazed by the number of records I've not heard of before , that by the titles and artists sound like they're gonna be great. Look forward to checking out some of these sounds
  16. Big Frank's a great track. Love Luther to. Isn't there an early seventies LP by him entitled 'Luther'?
  17. Yes of course, you'd already said it's on Dade, what a dick! Is is expensive though d'you know?
  18. What labels' Benny on? Is is Money? I'd like the two of a kind track by Wade F, but it's hundreds
  19. Ah, you gotta love Wade Flemmons, other place as well as two of a kind, Jeanette etc - top! Four Perfections is brill. What's that Benny Latimore flip like? Only heard the other side, which is something else. Top tunes..
  20. Every week there's a new tune or a different version of something, things picked up a do's or heard from other sources. This week I av been mostly listening to (in no particular order), old & new; Patti & the Emblems - It's the little things you do Temptations - Check yourself Jerry Jackson - It's rough out there Ben E King - Getting to me Peppermint Harris - Wait until it happens to you Rockmasters - Raining teardrops Benny Spellman - This is for you my love The Sunliners - All alone Deadbeats - No second chance Vanguards - Good times bad times Dean Barlow - Third window from the right Freddie Houston - Chills & fever Hytones - You don't even know my name Imperial C's - Someone tell her (awsome slower version) Jerry Fuller - I get carried away Jimmy Beaumont - You got too much going for you Lew Kirton - Heavan in the afternoon Mr Tears (Paris) - Don't lead me on Ollie Jackson - Gotta wipe away the teardrops Ritchie Havens - I can't make it any more Paradox - Ring the changes Sam Cooke - Sugar dumpling Roy Roberts - Gotta have your love The Moments - You said Plus assorted others, that I av been mostly listening to this week. SHOW US YOURS . . . . . .
  21. Northern soul coasters you say? Ever got a chipped record and gone at it with the big scissors? I know atop my speakers etc are SEVILLE - Dooley Silverspoon, MOTOWN, Stevie Wonder, MAJOR MINOR - Johnny Nash, VILLA - The Checkerboard Squares, VERVE - Clara Ward (don't ask, the label looked nice, honest)! Keeps beer condensation and coffee rings to a minimum and they look nice. If you like that sort of thing.
  22. Don't get your coat just yet. I'm trying to think of an instrumental good enough to end on, but then again, I think you're right an ender should have words - meaning etc
  23. Not seen that one yet. Upbeat eh..? Yeah I guess that's true. Getting back to the KFC ads, (groan) I remember the finishg strap line 'Got Chicken Got Soul' ... got chicken got soul...? When you've been on the floor for ages and the mood's just right and you've had your fare tipple of your favourites and you dance to records that you've never heard before, but they seem familiar in a magical way. That's the kind of thing that makes me think of soul. Not selected pieces of shaped chicken, formed and coated in a crispy batter!
  24. You're twisting my melon matt, what I said was"I came in through the mod back door " thus embarked upon the scene, dig? you perv!
  25. No need to be embarrassed Jamie, 3 years or 30 on the scene, theres still lots to learn/hear etc. NOBODY knows everything (Except PeteS obviously ). If you are still learning, surely thats where you derive the enjoyment. Well said Steve
