  3. I like Sixties/Northern/uptempo sounds & deep soul / ballads. Not really heard too many people refer to themselves as 'true Real Soul fans' in fairness, but I know what you mean. Anyone who likes the former, but not the latter is a rare beast first and foremost. They are not seeing all the colours of the spectrum. If however they did only like the former, bearing in mind the amount thats out there, that I think would be soul a plenty. To much dodgy modern disco, that's the thing to steer clear of.
  4. Well you make some interesting points Dave. Bearing in mind your locale etc. General consensus seems to be that national dj's do not purposefully adapt their sets according to their geographical dispositions. Have to agree with Dave on 100 Club being fave venue. Twenty years in attendance, only missed one nighter in last six years and the best bit, it's on tonight and I'm going - wer ho!
  5. I refer the honourable gentleman to the statement I gave earlier
  6. Lighten. The term "north of Watford Gap" is an expression that has been around for donkey's. It's an expression Southerner's use to express fear of travelling North. Or at least lack of Knowledge on venturing anywhere remotely North. Think it's kind of last turn off from the south. https://www.stackridge.com/north_of_watford_gap.htm 1st 3 lines mate, says it all
  7. Yes above true, though she's not been to the 100 in a while and she's not really that much of a soul fan either Although she's a nice mover. I'm still wearing her down on the soul thing, but it's taking a while - 14 years She likes Robbie & Marroon 5 Anyway you and I met at Luton, if you remeber? Was it last year, outside? And whad'ya know about those Hertford all dayers run by Dave Crabtree - Sundays, every month ???
  8. Is e the Finnish geezer that came to the 100 Club that time Ken?
  9. I know where my interest lies allright! Ding Dong Dana they used to call her. Llama lips n camel hips Smashing baby yeah ...
  10. Crystal! Now there's a Southernism for you. Popularised by that Lock Stock film that even them 'fackin norvern mankee's' would ave seen. Except Hammy of course, as they talk out the side of their mouths.
  11. Look at me now! I'm the one on the right by the way No, be good to see you mate. You're not travelling from la belle France I take it?
  12. It most certainly is/has If you can make it to Luton, you should get along to Letchworth and check out the Plinston - Fantastic nights
  13. Hear hear, lead vocal by Carl Wilson R.I.P.
  14. And in plain clothes you can say you are from the home counties
  15. Don't sugar coat it Gash! Tell us how you really feel ...
  16. I don't think your mad Ged. Don't know why it gets so much stick. I like it
  17. Thanks for that Ged. I simply must get myself along to Lifeline and see how it's upfrontness stacks up against my beloved 100 Club.
  18. No your dead right Simon. He's also the landlord of the Queen Vic in Gt Dunmow. So I rang him and asked him if he had fifty copies of better use your head in the loft ... he didn't
  19. She's white allright. Think Col was closer with South Africa as country of origin.
  20. If you fancy a UK Atlantic issue (of Esther) Andy, let me know. Good 60's tune - Creedence Clearwater - Fortunate Son.
  21. Had a tape recorder at one of the nighters and Danny's hand over just always sticks in my mind ... "Thanks to Keb for the last half hour, you got me for the next and er, as usual a few oldies, a few new stuff and of course for those who want em, a few modern sounds". "Kicking off with this one, Rufus Lumley, I'm standing". Happy days ...
  22. We are sliding off topic again me also. However as stated the main points raised in this thread have been pretty much answered. So assume this will gently sink over the weekend.
