  1. It's a toughie allright, but well interested to know
  2. Wow the Truth, have an album of their's Dennis someone? Wonder if it's worth owt. 80's top time for soul dude esp do's - honest, I have proof
  3. Why Gary? Why oh why do you personally prefer seventies to sixties?
  4. What about 80's any faves there? Tavares are cool btw
  5. Been wondering why more seventies and modern sounds don't appeal as much to me as sixties do and I got to thinking perhaps it was being into the mod scene before northern that had a bearing on this. Mods don't dig seventies do they? I mean let's be honest, all that dirty 'air and greasy clobber, it's diabolical !!! Seriously though, whilst there are many fine seventies tunes I know and love they'd still be outweighed massively by sixties soul. However there are a good many pals and folk on here I've talked to that really love the 70s and modern stuff passionately. I'm curious and always keen to know more, but some of that stuff gives me the fear, at a do, too much of it will cause one to be rooted to one's chair wearing a frown turned upside down. So I don't know ... ? Note to self - Simsy, seventies - must try harder. But then, nothin' and nobody was as cool as the Temps fronted by Ruffin so what the f*** !? Any mods (current or ex) that would agree with any of this to any degree. Any mods love seventies passionately besides Janine? Any soul fans from a non mod background got a view? Be interested to know.
  6. Gordon Ramsey's 'Kitchen Nightmares' had some nice soul tunes last week
  7. I concur who's the male version by - Tony Williams?
  8. Wise words. You're right. So who'd be in the top three then? AF, DR,TY???
  9. I don't know what was wrong with James Brown on that show. Perhaps he didn't want to over do it, so as to let Joss Stone Shine. Either that or he's lost it. Interesting topic - best female soul lead vocalist. People at Atlantic/Stax said Aretha sang like a bird and she did. Also has the title of queen of soul. There are no cracking northern numbers by AF Although powerful and tuneful I don't know that she is necessarily the greatest. Neither are some of the other candidates that spring to mind - Dianna Ross, Timi Yuro etc. I'm thinking maybe Brenda Holloway, or someone of that ilk that sits comfortably with the northern-ness. Tough one this
  10. Aretha Franklin is still alive
  11. What is utter rubbish is that silly joss bird is a better singer than Dusty. She's white btw
  12. Never really liked this record, not sure why - maybe harks back to a depressing time or sommat. Got spins at The Plinston not long back. Gonna dig out me VALSIE pressing right now and listen with an open mind
  13. Shit, just seen this goes from bad to bloody worse. LV dies age 54, but Obie ... Oh dear. I heard about the leg problem, but oh dear. So there's only two of the original line up left and Levi Stubbs has been quite frail for some time. Dear oh dear.
  14. Yeah I saw that Trev. Have to say, totally agree with you. Joss Stone - nothing special, bordering on being a bit crap. Don't believe the hype!
  15. Dancin down the 100 at the weekend, middle of the night ... Looked up, guess who? A smile, embrace and then gone again into the night
  16. Yes
  17. Steady John, or you'll have me quoting Denis Leary Seriously though, made a promise to self to quit before 40. That's years of age btw, not tabs per day
  18. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow, go on have a fag!
  19. Yeah I understood that. But if a club is members only and a few people smoke tabs and whatever else and the promoter turns a bit of a blind eye then that's okay. Then it'll be down to a snitch, or abuse of the promoters trust.
  20. Ah f**k em. Can't see the enforcement officers coming down to the all nighter @ 5.50am in their jim jams to tell us to put our fags/reefer's out (that is how you spell it Billy ) Probably be more interested in the (alledged) class A's that people alledgedly takes at these do's.
  21. All I said was that Stateside demo was good enough for Jehovah
  22. Butch? No, I wouldn't think less of him as a one off. In NS DJ'ing circles the man is a god and would be cut some slack. However this cd thing just doesn't sit comfortably with me. Ginger said they look so pretty and they sound great. No, there is a lot to be said for an original NS 45 and i'm afraid a cd is just no substitute.
  23. If I pay ten pounds to get into a venue, I want value for money. Part of that magic and indeed value is to know that someone of the ilk of Butch is playing fantastic records he payed a mint for, so we can stand there in awe, or hopefully dance with awe
  24. Here's a few; /index.p...wtopic=6312&hl=
