  1. Scarcely seen. Even less so is the ‘kids edit’. Same track, but with children singing along. Interested to know more on this version.
  2. My favourite group and my favourite track, lead by Paul Williams. Never been 100% that he killed himself. Talk of foul play. Sad loss of a tortured soul.
  3. Get well soon Mark. Regards Simsy.
  4. Yet to be mentioned is the fantastic Rita & the Tiaras - Out of your life c/u. Along with Chuck Jackson & Jean Carter, these would be my top three.
  5. On the flip side of ‘what’s your name’ by Don & Juan on BIGTOP is this 1961 Groover - Chicken Necks (or ‘chicken hex’ as my little lad used to say).
  6. Shocked and saddened to hear this news today. R.I.P Carl.
  7. I know the Montclairs is 69, but always thought of as a modern sound. A few more killers I’ll never own..
  8. Yup aware of that. Shrine release not the sort of thing that could be played out and may serve to increase the value of my Jet Set copy. Happy days.
  9. Little bit surprised to see the inclusion of Barbara Long, as WCIL wasn’t on Shrine.
  10. Well quite! I’m in my late 50’s and have lived in Rugby for the last ten years and have visited Leicester many times. So I hear you all the way. Back then though a wet behind the ears soft Southern teenager had no reason to doubt the word of the local plod!
  11. Shocked to read this news about Godzilla. I think back to the fun we used to have on here. Stomping on Japanese cities since 1954.
  12. Oh gawd, things we do for soul eh? Father in law was on his way to a nighter in Manchester, when his timing belt broke and munched the whole engine.
  13. Last weekend we had a burst water main at Rugby not far from the venue and the night had to be cancelled at very short notice. It got me thinking about nights we’ve set out to, only to find our plans were dashed for one bizarre reason or another. Back in the late eighties, we got a train to London Euston and a National Express coach to Leicester for an Oddfellows allnighter. Only to find on arrival the night had been cancelled. A copper told us that with our Southern accents, being in Leicester on a Saturday night when the pubs were chucking out wasn’t wise and we could come to the nick with him and stay in the cells for a while for our own safety. Ended up getting a lift back via Watford Gap Services for a consolation sarn. There’s that fantastic Jo Wallace tale of being in a car accident en route to Wigan and when the ambulance crew asked “do you want to go to hospital”? She replied “No, I want to go to Wigan”! Lets hear those stories..
  14. Temptations - Who you gonna run to.
  15. Look here Reggie, sorry ceejay, I didn’t get where I am today by not noticing you omitted the word SOUL from ‘the northern scene’.. Earwig CJ.
  16. Laughing here, he once had my wife believe Keith Money was a catalogue underwear model!
  17. I think ‘con’ is the conclusive answer. It follows on from “trying to fool myself”. Fool - con, fits.
  18. That makes so much sense though and ties in with my first post with it sounding like - ‘see you next Tuesday’ which it isn’t and Americans knowing/ using the term card, which they wouldn’t!
  19. I’m just not hearing that. I’m hearing “don’t let me play the card no more”. I think the isolation of the vocal proves with little doubt that the word in question starts with the letter c. My best mate and long term soul pal is adamant it’s ‘part’. I respect his view, I’m just puzzled we seem to be hearing different things?
  20. “don’t let me play the card no more”
  21. Has to be!
  22. Fill in the blank. I thought this part, but can’t be? Can’t be ‘see you next Tuesday’ either, though that’s what it sounds like. Anyway my mate seems to have won the argument, I think.
  23. Need Simon T or someone to settle an argument. Kissing her & crying etc. 1 min 36, “come back and love me like before, don’t let me play the ?blank? no more” Help appreciated.
  24. Great track. Sound’s earlier than 69’ only makes it more magical. Top job sir!
